Love Wordle? Here are 15 more free word games you can play (7NEWS.com.au)

Alternatives to the popular word guessing game offer something for everyone, from Star Wars fans to geography nuts.

Ideal for fans of the “Harry Potter” franchise, Wizarding Wordle is a “magical” spin on the game. If you truly just want more than one Wordle puzzle to solve each day, Wordle Unlimited is a platform with the same rules as the original that allows players to try and figure out a mystery word again and again. Previous secret words have been song titles, such as “Style” and “Peace,” or have been references to people associated with her such as “Alywn,” the last name of her current boyfriend. Potential words include names, spells and other five-letter words that can be found in the pages or on the screen of a “Harry Potter” book or film. “For me, this is my one chance a day to have a little bit of fun and a little bit of levity,” they said. Taylordle is a Taylor Swift-centric spin on the traditional game, where the secret word always hearkens back to the “Swiftie universe.” The self-titled “yassification of Wordle,” Queerdle features a new word each day that varies between four and eight letters in length, but is always related to LGBTQ+ culture and community. This game allows users to enter a word of any length, then, it produces a shareable link to a version of the classic Wordle game for others to play. Lordle of the Rings is one example of a fandom-based Wordle alternative, requiring players to bring both their best guesses and knowledge of Tolkien vocabulary. Possible mystery words and accepted answers are terms and names from the main text of “The Lord of the Rings.” To win, you have to “chase Absurdle into a corner” to the point where there is only one possible secret word left, according to the game’s methodology. And since there’s only one word a day, fans have to make the most of it.

According to Lee, this has a lot to do with the feeling of community and harmony. Over time, Wordle became so popular that it even managed to catch the attention of the New York Times, lover of both word games and paywalls. Once Wordle made its switch to the Times, a plethora of problems arose, most significantly that the words for us to guess became significantly harder. “Typically the game starts out with easy levels of success, which reward the player with small dopamine reactions frequently and often to get the player hooked,” David adds. It’s the sheer simplicity and uncomplicated-ness of it that has taken social media by storm. And everyone in the world gets the same word.

Today's Wordle answer and hints — solution #266, Saturday, March ... (Tom's Guide)

Find out what today's Wordle answer is for game #258 and get some hints for it, plus see the solutions to previous games.

We'd also recommend checking out the excellent Heardle, which is like Wordle for pop music. Some people think that Wordle has got harder since the NYT takeover, but it really hasn't. In fact, it proved so successful that The New York Times bought Wordle for a seven-figure sum in early February and the game is now part of NYT Games. Each time you guess, you're told which of your chosen letters are in the target word, and whether they are in the right place. Vowels obviously need consideration too: not all Wordle answers will contain more than one, but plenty do, and some even have three. But clever people (not me) have done the math and identified the best start words based on both frequency in English and frequency among Wordle answers. Those hints should get you at least some of the way towards finding today's Wordle answer. My first tip is that you should use one of the best Wordle start words for every game you play. Without one, you'll be scrabbling around in the dark trying (and possibly failing) to find the right five letters (or possibly fewer) out of the 26 possibles. With that in mind, you might find a few tips to be helpful; after all, a Wordle failure is only ever six guesses away. So that's what it means, but even outside of its relative obscurity, it's a difficult word due to its construction. Today's Wordle answer is a real tough one that I am fairly sure will have people pulling out their hair in search of the solution.
