Should Everton have had a penalty? (Sky Sports)

Everton 0-1 Man City: Phil Foden's late breakthrough goal wins it as hosts are left to bemoan penalty decision ... Created with Sketch. ... FREE TO WATCH: Highlights of Manchester City's win at Everton in the Premier League.

A mistake is when you have done something wrong and don't have time to think about it, they had two minutes to digest the handball. "Even if the VAR says not sure, then go have a look. The on-field decision not to award the penalty stood with perhaps no clear and obvious evidence that it had struck Rodri's uncovered arm rather than his shirt. "I was calm, I was not shouting and ranting at him. I have a three-year-old daughter at home who could tell you that was a penalty. There was still time for controversy when Rodri, under little pressure inside the penalty box, misjudged the bouncing ball and it ricocheted off his upper arm. The frustration will be that City needed an error to win the game. It required a stunning double save from Jordan Pickford to deny Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva midway through the half. Everton even had the best chance of the opening 45 minutes through Richarlison, while City merely probed. The returning Abdoulaye Doucoure, alongside Allan and Donny van de Beek, pressed the champions hard. On an emotional evening at Goodison, in which support for Ukraine was a pre-match focus, Frank Lampard's side showed plenty of commitment throughout. Instead, there was a Hollies song: He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother. Defiant applause rang out from all four corners of this famous old ground.

Everton vs Man City LIVE: Premier League result, final score and ... (The Independent)

Relive all the action as City moved six points clear of Liverpool atop the Premier League table with a narrow 1-0 win at Goodison Park.

Manchester City have got away with one, it will be interesting to see how the VAR came to that decision. They’ve put in a performance worthy of at least a draw. Anwar El Ghazi leaps at the ball but it just trickles over his head and bounces behind for a goal kick. It took a mistake from Everton to let Manchester City in on goal and Phil Foden took advantage. 90+5 mins: John Stones takes time out of the game but going to ground and needing a bit of treatment for his hand. Everton remain one point above the relegation zone.

City are only three points clear of Liverpool at the top of the table. Foden gets into space but Michael Keane diverts the ball for a corne.r It felt that way as City started to run out of ideas, but in the 82nd minute the breakthrough arrived. In the 56th minute, a wonderful pass from Bernardo out to Foden on the left invited him to shoot without breaking his stride. It's goalless at half time and Everton have given a very good account of themselves. When the second half started, you could see a pattern emerging. Here, a promising move down the right had broken down and Guardiola began to bubble like a saucepan approaching boiling point. But the one nagging doubt you had was whether their fitness and stamina levels could be sustained. Each successful tackle was greeted with a roar of approval, each sprint to close down space was roared on with gusto. This was not the City we have come to expect. When you see the home team working like this, you cannot fathom why they are in trouble. Guardiola’s team had eked out a scruffy 1-0 victory and that was all that mattered.
