Luton 2-3 Chelsea: Five talking points as Blues survive FA Cup ... (Mirror.co.uk)

Thomas Tuchel's side survived a big scare to overcome Championship side Luton Town in a five-goal thriller, coming from behind twice to book their place in ...

There were shaky moments again here, but he did show a moment of class for Chelsea's second. The German cushioned a ball with his thigh and calmly placed the ball into the bottom-right corner. This was a night their fans have long yearned for, and the team didn't disappoint with a performance that will live long in the memory in these parts. Slowly but surely, the club built itself back up and after a miraculous survival in their first season back in the Championship they are now looking upwards. Despite getting the job done in the end, Chelsea were leggy, sloppy in possession and for large portions lacked a ruthlessness that this contest and atmosphere demanded. Timo Werner made it 2-2 with a composed finish midway through the second half and Chelsea's quality ultimately told in the end with Romelu Lukaku tapping in from close range to give Chelsea the lead for the first time.

Chelsea twice had to come from behind in a classic FA Cup tie but booked our place in the quarter-finals with two goals in the space of 10 second-half ...

A patient bit of play out on the right ended with Loftus-Cheek releasing Timo inside the box again and when he cut a low ball across the six-yard box from the byline, Lukaku used his power to get ahead of the defenders and slide us ahead from close range. That made it almost impossible for Luton to rally and mount a late push for the equaliser that would take the game to extra time, managing only the occasional and increasingly desperate venture into our half. Werner was the man to get it and he showed clever movement to roll his marker and get in behind the Luton defence in the box following Loftus-Cheek's perfectly judged pass. The German stumbled as he went past the second man, but Saul was charging in to take over and place a perfect first-time shot into the bottom corner with his less-favoured right foot. That was when disaster struck for the Blues, as the set-piece was headed across goal by defender Reece Burke, bouncing in off the inside of the back post, giving Kepa no chance as we went behind just two minutes in. First Ruben Loftus-Cheek lifted the ball over the Hatters' back line, allowing Timo Werner to spin his marker cleverly and roll a composed finish under the goalkeeper.

Then we conceded another one, the second half we stepped up and we pushed and were relentless but never impatient and we deserved to win. They're World Club champions, Champions League winners and they've had to work hard - very, very hard - for their win. There was some noise today around the club of course, so it was not so easy to focus but we did very well, I think. Saul clipped Chelsea level with the Blues' first tangible attack, cantering on to strike home after Mason Mount had set Werner off and running. Saul's equaliser should have seen Chelsea settle, but just when the visitors expected to take control Luton struck again. Luton goalkeeper Jed Steer suffered a nasty-looking injury next, falling awkwardly on the turf under no contact from anyone else.
