International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is working to restore water supplies, provide support to medical facilities, and provide food and shelter to those affected by the fighting. But what is the Disasters Emergency Committee, where is its money coming from, and what will it do with it? All of the remaining 97% of funds must be spent on the emergency response itself and helping survivors rebuild their lives. Since the DEC was first founded in 1963, its appeals have raised more than £1.4 billion in total. The Disasters Emergency Committee, or DEC, is an umbrella group of 15 British charities. The government has committed to match donations up to £20 million.

DEC launches Ukraine appeal (UK Fundraising)

The Disasters Emergency Committee appeal for Ukraine, launched on 3 March, will see 13 of its 15 charity members receive funds.

Queen donates to Ukraine refugee charity appeal (Surrey Comet)

The Queen has made a donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine appeal to help civilians affected by the conflict. The charity expressed its thanks to the monarch on Twitter for “continuing to support” its work.

He added that the best way for people to help is to donate to the DEC and other similar fundraising efforts as there is “plenty of aid in the region” but funds are needed to buy it. “There are reports of long queues on the border of up to 60 hours in freezing conditions. “The most difficult areas, the hottest spots, in Ukraine are in the east, the north, the south and of course in Kyiv. “Most of the people fleeing are women and children, forced to abandon their homes and loved ones, to find sanctuary in neighbouring countries. “The situation is very dangerous here and in all parts of Ukraine. The charity expressed its thanks to the monarch on Twitter for “continuing to support” its work.
