Rangers marked their 150th anniversary with celebration of former heroes, and the current side battled their way to a 1-0 win over Aberdeen.

With this season now into its final breaths, the hope was that the oxygen supplied by such a grand occasion would give the team the second wind they need after a poor run of form. Five talking points from Ibrox as Rangers maintain the pressure on Celtic with narrow Aberdeen win (The National)

THE gap between Rangers and Celtic at the top of the cinch Premiership remains just three points after this weekend's games. But it took a goal from substitute Kemar Roofe with nine minutes of regulation time remaining for the Scottish champions to ...

The 1-0 win drew them level with Celtic in the Premiership table. He is looking forward to having the opportunity to work with charges on the training field at Cormack Park in the coming days. The home team needed a goal to avoid dropping two points and handing Celtic the chance to forge five clear at the head of the table. They are just four points off sixth place with three games to go until the split. There was, with Ryan Kent, Joe Aribo and Fashion Sakala in the starting line-up, no shortage of creative players on the park at the weekend. But Rangers’ form in their last two Premiership outings has still been concerning for their followers despite the 1-0 victories they have recorded over St Johnstone away and Aberdeen at home.

James Bisgrove flogged Rangers as a circus sideshow writes Keith ... (Scottish Daily Record)

The extravagant petrol-head has managed to drive a wedge between his club and its supporters. ... Get the latest Rangers news from Record Sport with our daily ...

If Bisgrove is really all about the bottom line then perhaps he ought to have given some consideration to the damage he might do with this latest sleight of hand. A PR man worth his salt would have been all over this visit from South Africa, seizing it as an opportunity to present a picture of unified and stable leadership even if some of the smiles might have been more like gritted teeth. This whole episode has been the very definition of a PR disaster and whoever it was who advised Bisgrove to then take it out on the fans - accusing them of overreacting - should be escorted off the premises as a matter of some urgency before any more carnage is caused. Rather than claim ownership of the decision to cash in on the dingo dollar and present it as a hugely positive commercial venture as well as an emotional nod of the head to ex-pat Rangers supporters Down Under, they panicked and fluffed their own lines horribly. At least Bisgrove was smart enough to try to deflect the blame as soon as he was caught with his didgeridoo in his hands by blurting out that the deal had the ‘unanimous’ approval of the rest of the board. The man in charge of commercial and marketing strategies at Ibrox may seem like a snake oil salesman to those of us with an untrained eye but then we don’t drive a McLaren super-car to the office so it stands to reason Bisgrove can’t be half as daft as he looks.

RANGERS B Team collected a point in the City of Glasgow Cup after drawing 1-1 against Celtic B at the Penny Cars Stadium this afternoon.

He then found some space to execute his strike and sent a ferocious ball into the top left corner of the net. They worked well to create threatening play into the Celtic final third with Devine and McCausland linking up to pressurise the hosts’ backline and push their way into the box. As Rangers started the second half, they looked to pressurise McIntyre’s final third and drive into the box to find the opening goal. McCausland came close again to breaking the deadlock and to put his side ahead. The Gers began to settle into the game and find their rhythm. Karamoko Dembele managed to break away from Adam Devine down the left side and advance towards Budinauckas in goals.

Lewis Ferguson Rangers disgust as Aberdeen TV stalwart hits out at ... (Scottish Daily Record)

Two moments just seconds apart involving the midfielder got Mike Garner's ire up at Ibrox.

Just seconds later Aberdeen were awarded a free-kick on the touchline and Ferguson looked to pass the ball across to Joe Lewis, only for Roofe to get in the way. That run dates back to the Stephen Glass era but still leaves Aberdeen in 10th place in the Premiership with just eight wins all season. Saturday saw Jim Goodwin's side go down 1-0 to a later Kemar Roofe goal to make it no wins in 10 for the Dons across all competitions.

Scottish Premiership: Kemar Roofe lifts Rangers as late strike sinks ... (The Guardian)

Kemar Roofe scored the only goal as Rangers left it late to find a winner at Ibrox and move level on points with Celtic.

Nicky Clark’s penalty then put the hosts ahead before Halkett struck in the 81st minute. Rangers won’t have enjoyed that 90 minutes,” said Goodwin, who also felt that Calvin Bassey had fouled Calvin Ramsay in the build-up to Roofe’s goal. “It was a game with two faces,” Van Bronckhorst said afterwards.
