Album Review – Dolly Parton's “Run, Rose, Run” (savingcountrymusic.com)

'Run, Rose, Run' deserves to be graded on a curve because it's meant as a complement to a novel, not a standalone feature. But even without running ...

But even without running opinions through the love we all have in our hearts for anything and everything Dolly Parton, Run, Rose, Run does include some quality songs and collaborations not to be overlooked, even if it doesn’t necessarily inspire you to run out and get a copy of the novel, and bury your nose in it post haste. “Snakes In the Grass” just feels downright silly, and like a host of the songs on this album, is set within these repetitive motions and obvious intentions that you usually only hear on soundtracks to kid’s movies. “Woman Up (And Take It Like A Man)” is classic Dolly Parton writing, and a great song to add to her repertoire, even if a bit more contemporary than classic in sound.

Although it could also be a style choice, she has suggested that she wants to cover up some tattoos in those covered areas. They happen where skin has healed after an injury and can grow to become larger than the original scar. She has said publicly: "Most of the tattoos, when I first started, I was covering up some scars that I had, ‘cause I have a tendency to have keloid scar tissue, and I have a tendency where, if I have any kind of scars anywhere, then they kind of have a purple tinge that I can never get rid of. Treatments include freezing the scar through cryotherapy, earring silicone sheets or gel over the scar, laser therapy, and applying pressure treatment to flatten the keloid and reduce blood flow. She has sat down for a BBC interview alongside Patterson which can be viewed on BBC iPlayer. The unusual style choice has sparked questions from fans about why the singer-songwriter would choose to always wear gloves in public.

Add in the growth of emerging markets; growing rights transparency; and the booming music creator and creator tools economies and you have the foundations of an entirely new chapter for the music business. But the market has a lot of growth left in it yet. It should be of little surprise that this is where MIDiA spends a lot of its time in the consulting and advisory work we do for music investment funds. In most asset class markets, this is a very sensible approach, and in music it is a crucial component – but it is not enough alone. The rate of music catalogue M+A acquisitions is accelerating, with announced transactions exceeding 12 billion in 2021, more than doubling since 2020*. Though those figures are boosted by some big institutional plays, such as UMG divesting some of its business ahead of its IPO, there is a rapid acceleration in the number of artists and songwriters who are selling. On the one hand, this is not the first time she has publicly pondered the move (the first time was in December 2020), and is thus probably aimed at pushing up buyer demand and creating a bidding war.

In an interview with Elle Magazine for their Women in Hollywood issue, Dolly confessed that she doesn’t always wear her wigs in daily life, but she still does pouf her hair up because she loves to have the flashy fair. But of course, wigs are still her number one option because they’re so handy, especially for her, who always has a busy schedule. Not only because she has always loved them but also because her own hair was fine and flat and it never really did exactly what she wanted to. In her book Songteller: My Life in Lyrics, Dolly fondly shared that back in her teenage years, she had always dreamed of affording and wearing a wig at some point in her life. And then, when she was able to buy hairpieces and wigs, she wanted them right away. Standing at exactly 5 feet, Dolly Parton is everything her name suggests – a real-life dainty Barbie all dolled-up with her bold make-up, blonde hair, and high heels.
