Jesse Marsch: We have to be clear (Leeds United)

“We’re going to need him and we're going to need his quality. I can see right now that that's a message that we have to stay strong with.” We didn't execute that and we didn't follow the plan often.

Every word Jesse Marsch said on Leeds United 'stress', Elland Road ... (Leeds Live)

Jesse Marsch has only been in charge for two matches, but his side have failed to find the net in four consecutive Premier League games - which is a particular ...

And the more that I can put those two together and and help us understand how to handle this difficult moment then the more successful fund to be to pick to ask but I believe we can get there. So yeah, I mean, this is what I'm here to do is in a very difficult moment, help the club and help the players understand what we need to do to survive this situation. But again, it looks for me the way I always want the team to look is that it's cohesive, it's together there's understandings of roles, and for me in a lot of the moments are in the final third look too much like individual efforts instead of coordinated movements to be dangerous. So I could you could, I would say that about the entire first half and didn't bite in the second half that we look too much like 11 individuals and it's not enough like a group that's really clear on how to fit with each other. But I'm going to think carefully and I'm going to make sure that I regroup and help the team regroup in every way. What the clarity is how to handle this moment how to stay strong. We had a good phase at the beginning of the second half where we played the way we wanted to play and we brought the crowd into the match which is always the goal and then we weren't sharp enough or good enough to find the equaliser - and then we know that moment we invited a few too many counters and then give up the second goal. So, from the beginning I said we have to stay calm, and we have to be clear, and I can see right now that that's a message that we have to stay strong with. And that you know when we step on the field that we need to know that the fear will ensure failure, right? How disappointing was it for you to see that sort of space afforded to the opposition? I've tried to create clarity for the group as to how we want to play and the behaviours that we want and the tactics to create clarity with that but it was clear from the beginning that we lacked confidence and aggression in the match. We have to attack matches and we have to go after opponents.

Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch already has a solution to the injury which saw Junior Firpo stretchered off versus Aston Villa.

We've asked him to play right-back and now we're going to ask him to play left-back. "With Junior, that probably means we'll have to play Stuart [Dallas] at left-back. Last weekend, Tyler Roberts sustained a serious hamstring injury minutes after being brought on as Marsch's third substitution.

We're going to look at five players who could stick around at Elland Road even if Leeds are relegated.

Ayling has been impressive in the Premier League, but his age does work against him. If this team does go down, one has to imagine that the squad will be picked apart. Klich has been the lynchpin in Leeds’ midfield for a number of years now, and it’s unlikely that he’ll want to jump ship if the Whites return to the Championship.

I hope for the sake of all those fantastic Leeds United fans who have followed the team home and away and through thick and thin through the years that I am wrong in that relegation is a reality, and that we can actually survive in the Premier League. With no leader in the team – athough Luke Ayling is doing his very best – a new manager who doesn’t seem to understand we need width in attack, and without a goalscorer, I fear the worst. The fact we have released Marcelo Bielsa is going to probably mean Leeds will play Championship football in the 2022/23 football season.

Up from centre-back, Calum Chambers struck first time to curl an effort into the top corner. Danny Ings was out on the wing and collected the ball, looked up and drilled a cross to the back post where Matty Cash had acres of space. Villa decided to keep the same XI which started the match. The full-back controlled, cut inside and smashed home on his left-foot to double the lead. He did make a stop a few minutes later, as substitute Gelhardt tried his luck from range and saw his effort saved. In the 22nd minute however, Philippe Coutinho did open the scoring.

Volume levels among the home supporters then increased further when Mings was booked for barging James off the ball. It is only a fortnight since Gerrard’s men looked in danger of being sucked into a dogfight at the wrong end of the table. Yet as home fans grew hopeful it was Villa who struck again. Only way to answer it is to make sure your team win and get the last laugh. Not easy coming to a team with a change of manager. Had a very good week, 10 days together, Tried to create clarity for the group in how we play and the behaviours we want. We have to stay calm and be clear. Icing on the cake. The way I want us to press is the group attacking the ball and opponent together. With and against the ball. Help the players understand what we need to do to thrive in this situation. We have a situation that is really tough, Not going to sleep a lot to night, but will think carefully and hope I regroup. He's more of a centre-back by trade but I think tactically he's very aware and I think his understanding of what that role is I thought he executed really well against Leicester. In general I thought Robin could've been more aggressive in certain moments to try and pressure the opponent. Talked about this fear factor and the one thing I know is there is no lack of desire or work ethic, but because those things are so high it almost adds to the stress. Diego Llorente also returned to the bench with Tyler Roberts making way.

SINCE arriving at Leeds United, Jesse Marsch has gone out of his way to please everyone and proved a willing talker.

Defensively, Leicester was a step in the right direction, but here Leeds were atrocious, with the first and second goals courtesy of appalling defending that showed why they are where they are. Villa settled and took over and the unease was palpably evident among Whites followers who had little to feed off. For all the bonhomie and chatter, the only thing that matters in the cold light of day is deeds from him and his team and not words. It was that sort of evening. There was no fairytale and hundredth career goal. The talk had been of Marsch fixing problem areas and stiffening Leeds up.

He gave Ayling and Struijk a tough time of it tonight and ran the channels well to get Villa up the pitch. He just entertained from start to finish and grabbed his fourth goal from eight with a decent finish off Struijk to get the party started. Did well in there and did what was asked by Gerrard as he helped screen the back four before he was replaced late on with the game in the bag. His ball across to Cash for the second was sheer class as well. In terms of his forward play, Watkins almost got on the end of Digne's ball but for Coutinho who eventually finished. Left a really late one on Ayling in the first half which looked nasty. Stuck to the task at hand and you have to remind yourself now and again the kid's just 20. But the skipper soon rolled his sleeves up and got on with it and came up with another assist here as he teed-up his defensive partner. Digne's free-kick led to Chambers' goal in the second half as well. The full-back was also on hand to clear a dangerous ball into Villa's penalty area after the break. A strong showing and a goal to boot. His end product is just getting better and better as the Polish international not only scored a belter but picked out Coutinho for the opener.

Leeds United's love of Marcelo Bielsa: A hug from 'Grandad', a ... (ESPN)

Leeds United sacked Marcelo Bielsa last month with the club battling relegation, but their fans are still paying tribute to their beloved ex-coach.

Other messages to the Trust's message board continued to pour in from all over the world. Ashleigh, who is training to be a paramedic and had to wake up for an early shift the next day, was woken by a call from her brother at 11.30 p.m. that night to say Riley's message had gone viral. They remain two points and two places above the bottom three with 10 games left to play, but they face a real battle to avoid relegation. They decided it had to be a video message, with his iPad reading it out -- that way, the message would truly be from Riley. She had heard about the Trust's message board and thought it would be good for Riley to send his own message of thanks. By the following weekend, Riley had said he didn't want to go to the match against Leicester City, which was to be new manager Marsch's debut. When he arrived, Leeds, who were one of the biggest clubs in the country in the late 1960s and early 1970s and were last champions of England in 1991-92, were adrift in the EFL and had been since they were relegated in 2003-04. The Leeds United Supporters' Trust launched a digital platform called "Gracias, Marcelo" and, within the first hour, its website manager had to turn off his phone to stop its buzzing. Ashleigh and Riley had been walking back to their car, and Bielsa had spotted them from across the car park. The response to pay tribute to Bielsa began immediately. Riley has a very rare condition called Wieacker syndrome, and is one of a small handful in the U.K. to have it. Ashleigh learned at a recent parents' evening that his school has also password-protected his iPad -- instead of using it to respond to teachers, he would surf news websites looking for who Leeds United would sign next, or read stories about the club's iconoclastic Argentine manager, Marcelo Bielsa.
