West Brom to address Andy Carroll contract in summer - Steve Bruce (West Brom News)

Steve Bruce says West Brom will address Andy Carroll's West Brom contract uncertainty at the end of the season amid the forward's impressive form.

The mobility of the other two was just something I needed to see at Hull and they did okay tonight. It was a great clearance as well [off the line at the death]. It’s good to see him fit, keeping well and keeping healthy.

It ballooned off the striker and into the net. That was Ward’s 12th League goal of the season. Certainly Albion’s start was bright and promising. Except he mistimed the ball collection, Ward spotted the tiniest glimpse of an opening and blocked Johnstone’s clearance. 3 things we clearly learnt about West Brom following 2-2 draw vs ... (Football League World)

West Brom kept alive their faint play-off hopes by coming from two goals down to pick up a point against Huddersfield Town last night.

His introduction didn’t bring pretty football, but there’s no denying Albion were much more effective when he was on the pitch. Albion were limited for large parts of the game, and they only really came to life late on, when Carroll came on and they adopted a more attacking approach. Bruce has opted to leave Carroll on the bench in the last two games, but the former England striker showed last night that he still has a lot to offer.

West Brom 2-2 Huddersfield - Report (expressandstar.com)

Late goals from Karlan Grant and Andy Carroll saw Albion come from behind to snatch a draw against Huddersfield in a thrilling encounter at The Hawthorns.

Then just moments later he stabbed wide from a long Furlong throw. Incredibly the comeback could - and should - have been even better with a clever ball from Robinson then putting Grant in. It was a harsh call with Thomas judged to have produced a high boot on Mowatt in the box. While Huddersfield were moving the ball swiftly at times, with Thomas, in particular, a threat, Albion continued to look dangerous from set-plays. And Johnstone then smashed the ball into the striker with his clearance ricocheting into the empty net. With the ball at his feet, everyone inside The Hawthorns was expecting the keeper to make a simple clearance.

West Brom player ratings from Championship clash with Huddersfield (West Brom News)

West Brom somehow found a late resurrection to find two goals from nowhere and draw with Huddersfield Town at the Hawthorns.

Could have had a late penalty when clipped on the edge of the box but no luck. Stand-out of the team despite late introduction. Virtually anonymous, didn’t give Nicholls anything to do in the opposition goal. Booked for a late challenge immediately after the awful opening goal. Displayed wonderful technique to dispatch a dropping ball, drawing a good save from Lee Nicholls. Put his head on as Thomas conceded penalty with high boot, despite winning the ball. Appalling error to give the visitors the lead as he allowed Ward to close him down and block his clearance straight into the net, an unbelievable way to negate strong work from his team.

West Brom player ratings as Grant & Carroll dig Albion out of the mire (Birmingham Live)

On the face of it, it looks a decent point, though whether it'll be enough to satisfy Steve Bruce is unclear - Albion were, for large parts of this game, ...

Albion fans have waited a while to see Gardner-Hickman in the side and in midfield, and in TGH they got the bite and tenacity they were after from everyone in a striped shirt. Scored his first goal and ensured the point stayed in tact with a last gasp header off the line. For what it was worth in the first half, he did his job pretty well in the holding role. So much better suited to playing in an eight role, and in a midfield three. Nightmare moment when Huddersfield looked to have clinched the win with the second. There was a little hope to run with in the dying embers, then. One or two of his crosses were particularly inviting, but without Carroll in the side they weren’t attacked. Came as close as any Baggie to opening the scoring. That sent The Hawthorns into shock and delirium in equal measure. That sparked a mass exodus in the home end, with still more than 15 minutes left on the clock. Kyle Bartley acrobatically powered one effort over the bar and nodded another wide from Darnell Furlong’s long throw, but then - and not for the first time this season by any stretch - Albion shot themselves in the foot. Ajayi and Bartley challenged for the same ball as Lewis O’Brien struck towards goal.

REPORT: WEST BROM 2-2 TOWN (htafc.com)

Huddersfield Town were unfortunate to see a late comeback from West Bromwich Albion split the Sky Bet Championship points at the Hawthorns on Friday evening.

The 82nd minute saw West Brom handed a penalty, which former Town man Grant was able to hit home from the spot. Unfortunately for the Terriers, he just couldn’t get a boot on it. Fortunately, it was wide of the target.

That looked like that until Thomas lifted his boot on the edge of the penalty area. It just did not feel like a draw. Bartley responded by clearing the bar with an overhead kick and headed wide from a long throw-in but the Baggies threat had been much reduced. It was the hosts, fresh from their first win under former Huddersfield manager Steve Bruce, who started the better. Ward now has 13 for the season, the best tally of his career having scored just once in 2020-21. It is not that the Terriers are ugly.

He caught O'Brien on the back of the head with his foot after the foul, but it was entirely accidental. Robinson goes down inside the box under Pearson's challenge. West Brom will be facing a major blow if Alex Mowatt cannot pass a late fitness test against Huddersfield today (March 11).

Should they win today, they will close the gap and also move up the table to 11th. The new Baggies boss registered his first win in charge at the Hawthorns and would want to make it back-to-back victories. The midfielder remains a doubt due to a muscle injury and Steve Bruce will be counting on his services.

'All to play for' - West Brom v Huddersfield Town prediction: The72 (The 72 - We Love the Football League)

West Brom host Huddersfield Town at The Hawthorns on Friday night in a clash between two sides with promotion ambitions.

The Terriers have improved massively this season and have at times looked unstoppable going forward. At the other end of the spectrum, Huddersfield Town sit in 3rd, though many would have thought they’d be down in mid-table. “Although Steve Bruce’s players have the talent, I think the Terriers’ desire and determination will see them pick up all three points here.

Whereas the Baggies boss will be keen to turn to Mowatt for inspiration, he cannot really afford to risk the midfielder in this fixture if he isn’t fully fit.

In the cold light of day, we will realise that Huddersfield Town are now 17 games unbeaten in the league and second in the table, if precariously so. This was the second time in five days that Town have gone away from home, taken the lead, and then not seen it out. Instead, they panicked in the face of mounting pressure from West Brom, who scented that a second goal was in the air.

Nigel Quashie picks out West Brom ace after 2-2 draw v Huddersf'ld (West Brom News)

Andy Carroll led by example as he scored a late equaliser for West Brom as they came from 2-0 down to earn a draw against Huddersfield.

But West Brom rallied after getting a penalty for a high foot on Alex Mowatt, which Karlan Grant converted, before Carroll headed home a minute later. By the end of the game The Hawthorns was as loud as it’s been for a long time despite the half-full stadium, and it was Carroll who had earned the vast majority of the plaudits for it. He then cleared a Huddersfield effort off the line to preserve the point and Quashie said he deserved all the praise for his performance.

Albion & Steve Bruce have a clear picture ahead of Fulham test (Birmingham Live)

The talking points from The Hawthorns as West Brom battle from two goals down to draw with Huddersfield.

Heads go down, the mental resilience comes into question and the squad fails to rise to the challenge in the face of adversity. That was, of course, right until the final minutes when he met Semi Ajayi’s terrific ball in from the right. It was calamitous, there is no other word for it. There is every chance that Fulham will come and roll Albion over at The Hawthorns on Tuesday. That’d be no disgrace, in the sense that the irrepressible Cottagers have done that to most sides in the division over the course of this campaign. Albion were rolled over time and again. We saw signs of it here, after Ward’s bizarre opener.
