If France lose without a bonus point (18 points), Ireland would overtake them with a victory (20/21), a draw (18/19) or even a defeat if they score four tries and lose by seven points or less (18). If France lose with a bonus point (19 points), Ireland would overtake them with any victory (20/21) or a four-try draw (19). If France lose with two bonus points (20) Ireland would overtake them with a victory (20/21 points). They kick for the corner and will have a lineout 10 yards from the try line. Ireland: If Ireland lose to Scotland they would finish second (16/17/18 points) and France would win the title. Darcy Graham does well to gather a Sexton up and under but he kicks it out and the hosts have a lineout in the Scotland half. From the lineout the forwards create a maul and drive over the line but they are held up. Ireland lose the ball and it goes back form the earlier infringement. Ireland have a lineout on halfway and from that set piece Sexton crashes over the gain line and wins a penalty - Gibson-Park taps and goes and marches into the Scotland 22. A Scotland attack sees the ball moved in field from the left flank - they're keeping the ball alive and building the phases. Ireland move the ball left and from there Cian Healy dives from all of one metre. Scotland then move the ball left and they're now just 10 yards from the try line. Scotland certainly had their share, and had Hogg passed to support when Scotland had a four-on-one in Ireland's 22 shortly after the break when they had momentum they could – indeed should – have registered a second try. That is until Tadhg Beirne bashes a hole in the Scotland midfield and it's desperate defending by the visitors.

However, Kinghorn pushed the conversion to the right of the posts, leaving it 14-5 to the hosts at the break. Now it was Scotland’s turn to rally and soft hands by Kinghorn off turnover ball gave Graham an opening on the right. In the end, Ireland were first to really threaten when Jamison Gibson-Park escaped up the side of a ruck on halfway and kicked past last man Hogg, who did well to get back and clear the danger. Graham was penalised for tackling Hugo Keenan before he had collected a high ball, and then had a hairy moment as he tried to gather a towering kick when he juggled possession and then sliced his clearance. The hosts doubled-down and Jonnny Sexton nailed a brilliant 50-22 into the corner which gave Ireland an attacking line-out from which they were held up over the line. It was a plucky enough performance but they lacked the power and guile to really worry Ireland, who completed their Triple Crown with this bonus-point victory.

Ireland 26-5 Scotland: Six Nations 2022 – as it happened (The Guardian)

Ireland secured the Triple Crown and must hope for a favour from England in Paris to snatch the Six Nations title from France.

Gregor Townsend has put a lot of store in the Edinburgh man as an international stand-off and today we’ll find out if he’s right. For Scotland, the aforementioned late night boozy-do appears to have consigned Finn Russell to the bench. Andy Farrell changes three from the team that laboured a little at Twickenham. Mack Hansen returns to the wing in place of the unlucky Andrew Conway, Iain Henderson replaces the concussed James Ryan, and Jack Conan is back in the No 8 berth.

Led the way with two turnovers, one of which led to a relieving penalty and the other put a stop to a Scottish counterattack. He worked voraciously at the breakdown to clear out and in other facets of the game too. His application and work-rate was typically diligent and perhaps his greatest contribution was his tackle count in defence and ability to slow down the ball at the breakdown. Showed an enthusiasm and energy for all forms of contact and was rock solid in the scrum initially and then part of Ireland’s late dominance. He did some very good things, one great kick, and made some mistakes that were untypical - three turnovers, and he got in the way of a pre-planned move. A knock-on from a Johnny Sexton pass highlighted the lack of empathy between the two on the day and he was also caught offside.

Scotland captain Stuart Hogg and had coach Gregor Townsend want to draw a line under disciplinary breach after Ireland defeat.

But if you have one-on-one conversations over certain subjects that are tough to have, then you’re going to have a closer relationship in the long term. It was a private matter, that private discussions and decisions would be made within the group. I know, rightly, people will talk about the result, and that’s the main thing when you play international rugby, but I saw a performance today that was better than most of our performances this year. “Things you do as a coach – things about the game plan, things that the players do, and then sometimes you’re disappointed with the referee. “You’re disappointed with a number of things,” he said, attempting to portray the matter as just one more minor mishap. “We were very frustrated with the outcome of the match,” he concluded. Asked to confirm that he had said sorry to the rest of the squad, he replied: “I did. “It’s frustrating because I felt like we were in the game. We just got on with making sure we prepared in the best possible way,” said Hogg. “It was a challenging week, but it was one of our best weeks of preparation,” he added. “A lot of good stuff happened in that game,” he said. “We just want to concentrate on doing what we can. “We stuck together and got on with our jobs.

Ireland v Scotland: Scotland player ratings (The Offside Line)

A tough day at the office for Scotland which confirmed that Ireland have moved out of sight as one of the big Six Nations forces.

Much to like – again! – but there was a pre-match suspicion that the back-row blend was not best suited to combat the Irish juggernaut – and so it proved. Fought to the very end with an outstanding line-out steal ten metres out – and chasing down the clearing kick. Found a gap for Mark Bennett on his first touch of the ball. A great game both in the tight and around the park, though he misread the situation at the maul leading up to the first Irish try. Only one kick at goal in the whole match – and was way off. His first pass did not go to hand, but he hung in there and showed some nice touches, without being able to stamp any authority on the game. No doubting his commitment, talent or courage – he ran hard and kicked far – but on the day the force just was not with him. Started badly, missing his man and then giving away a penalty on his first two kick chases, but made a great challenge on the kick-off to start the second half. Stuck the kick through which Stuart Hogg fluffed, but did not show much in attack, and spilled a couple of balls. Nervy in defence and under the high ball early on and was penalised for an early tackle on Hugo Keenan but settled down and looked very solid. Showed eager on the first play but had to work doggedly to get into the game.
