The Cherries’ quality looks like it will outweigh the spirit of those outsiders in the race for the top-two, including Huddersfield. Today was about as clinical as it can get from the Cherries, as Dominic Solanke spearheaded a slick attacking unit towards victory. As it is, two defeats in a week leaves them very much in the slog for the play-offs as Bournemouth join Fulham in motoring on towards the Premier League.

Nobody left the stadium after the game complaining that The Cherries had been fortunate to take all three points, as they were far superior to The Terriers on the day. "It was a constant message all week and it was a constant message at half time as well we need to stick to what we're doing, we're not holding onto anything here." Bournemouth were fantastic throughout the tie at the John Smith's Stadium, for the whole game they looked the most likely to score. He was also pleased to see his game plan delivered in the exact way he had planned it in West Yorkshire. Parker was full of praise for all of his players, saying that to a man they were fantastic. "Our pressing, the intensity we played at, we stuck to the plan of what we prepared for this game and really executed it, we were clinical and fluid and I was delighted with that performance all round."

Jonathan Hogg missed the game altogether as Carlos Corberan revealed after the game he has a knee injury.
Hogg was subbed at halftime during Wednesday’s loss to Millwall and was not in the matchday squad on Saturday. They will need their captain Jonathan Hogg back and at his best for the run-in. They will need to regroup and get back to winning ways quickly with teams below them now right on their tail.

Bournemouth started the second half where they left off, breezing through the hosts’ defence with ease. Former Terriers man Philip Billing received a frosty reception from home supporters, but looked bright and had a shot saved before the break. Nicholls raced out to deny the dangerous Solanke, but Tom Lees skewed an attempted clearance and Lerma pounced.

The Terriers were firmly second-best to a ruthless Bournemouth side that ripped the hosts apart at the John Smith's Stadium to claim a very comfortable 3-0 ...
Millwall are excellent at the moment and Bournemouth are the second-best team in the division, so there’s little shame in losing to either side in principle; but there really has been nothing in the way of positives for Town to console themselves with from those games. There was a sense coming into this game that either side could be either on top of their game or completely off it, especially in light of each team’s recent performances and results. For the second time in four days, Carlos Corberan’s side were outclassed in all departments on their way to a damaging loss that kills off any shred of hope they might push for automatic promotion and once again calls their play-off credentials into question.
Town Head Coach Carlos Corberan admitted that AFC Bournemouth had been the better side on the day as Town fell to defeat at the John Smith's Stadium.
"We had to wait and be more compact to make the attack difficult, the third goal made it impossible to change the dynamic of the result. "You want to press more to recover more balls and go for the game, but if you don’t arrive on time they’re going to beat you and they’re going to have clear and big chances. "I think that was both positive and negative in the first 15 minutes were that we felt we could recover the ball in the offensive half, and that they were a little bit uncomfortable in securing the first passes.

A nice move from Town saw Ward set second half substitute Josh Koroma down the left, before cutting back in to claim the ball and see his right footed effort gathered by Mark Travers. Solanke was played through and saw his shot well saved by Nicholls, but Town were unable to clear, seeing it fall to Lerma who sent a left-footed half-volley into the back of the net. The striker almost had a tap-in, but Bournemouth managed to scramble it clear.

That this side have regressed is now undeniable after a 0-3 defeat at the John Smith's Stadium put another dent in their hopes of holding on to their top ...
That run of games around Easter – Luton (h), QPR (h) and Middlesbrough (a) – is at least a big a test as the three games Town have just played, which is a worry. Let’s not forget that the unbeaten run came off the back of a run of one win in seven games; that Town have not suffered more than two consecutive defeats at any point this season; or that maintaining the points per game ratio they have set so far this season, including all those bad spells and blips, should be just enough to get them into the play-offs, going by the points totals required in previous years. But they also have more winnable games against Hull, Coventry and Bristol City, all of whom probably have nothing to play for already; as well as Barnsley, whose relegation or survival might already have been confirmed by the time they visit the John Smith’s Stadium in late April. Realistically, they’re not going to win all the games you might expect, but there’s a fair chance they’re not going to lose all the games you might expect either. You can just about get away with being underwhelming at one end of the pitch or the other and still get results, with a bit of luck on your side; but you can't get away with being as poor at both ends as Town have been over the past two games. Fine. Then losing that two-goal lead at West Brom could have been written off as a freak occurrence if Town had responded with a victory against either Millwall; and likewise, the loss at The Den in midweek could have been handwaved off as simply meeting the wrong team at the wrong time if they had put in an improved performance against Bournemouth – even without getting a result. If two weeks ago Town were standing on the crest of a hole looking down at Luton, Blackburn and co, then they are now firmly in that hole, trying to dig their way out with the rest of them. O’Brien has been dribbled past three times or more in just five games this season, and two of them have been in the past four days. That has specifically taken the form of keeping a man space in behind Sorba Thomas (who was poor defensively in both of the last two games); putting a runner on Jon Russell to stop him playing on the ball and exploit his lack of pace off it (he really, really struggled in this game); and create space in behind the defence by pulling one of the centre-backs out of position (as Bournemouth did repeatedly with Lees here). The 3-4-3 against Millwall aside, though, we've not actually massively disagreed with Corberan's tactical decisions, and think he has more than enough credit in the bank on that front in any case; even Alex Ferguson got it wrong now and thenm. Here are our five conclusions on a listless defeat for the Terriers. “I am thinking that this game gave us a clear message that we need to improve as a team to compete against every type of opponent or especially the opponents that are in a better position than us in the table.” Those are Carlos Corberan’s words after watching his side lose 3-0 against Bournemouth – but they’re actually from the press conference after the reverse fixture back in October. That they seem so fitting again now, after another defeat to the same opposition and by the same scoreline, is all the proof you need that Town have taken several huge steps back over the past fortnight. A lot of the criticism we levelled at Town for the Millwall game revolved around Jonathan Hogg, both because he had been poor on an individual level and because he provided a helpful encapsulation of Town’s tactical failings in that game. Huddersfield Town were outclassed and soundly beaten in the Championship for the second time in four days as they fell to a 0-3 home defeat to second-placed Bournemouth. Carlos Corberan’s side were effectively out of the game from the moment Jaidon Anthony gave the visitors a 19th minute lead off a Dominic Solanke assist, with Jefferson Lerma doubling the lead immediately after Lee Nicholls had saved well from Solanke just after the half hour.
