Rangers legends have lost to a World Legends side at Ibrox despite a goal and man of the match performance from Paul Gascoigne.
After a raft of changes for both sides at the break, both sides looked pretty different for the second 45 and the game was much more open than the first period. As the entertaining first-half drew to a close, Arveladze broke the deadlock with a stunning header from de Boer’s cross; the Georgian showing great agility to get on the end of de Boer’s ball into the area and head the ball into the top corner. With a host of superstars on display, fans were treated to a surprisingly entertaining game as both sides had their moments – although it was Luis Figo’s World XI who had the best of the chances in the opening 45.
Paul Gascoigne squeezed home a late goal in an afternoon to savour at Ibrox - here are the best bits.
And seconds in he took a 'dive' over the ball in the centre-circle. He was even cheered in the warm-up and when he was featured on the big screens on the bench. The lead commentator was left on his lonesome as he saw McCann enter the pitch for Van Bronckhorst in the second half in a numberless shirt. On two occasions in the first half he tried to catch out Ronald Waterreus with a Trivela, his signature shot with the outside of the right boot. And his tackle on Michel Salgado in the first half brought Ibrox to its feet. In all it was an entertaining affair but the best part of these occasions are the little touches that wouldn't fly in a competitive match.

That’s what people should be shouting from the rooftops. Supporters need to be heard and taken seriously. Instead we have a squabble over this Old Firm friendly in Australia that is meant to take place in November. “Maybe that will force the board to have a change of heart – but all of this anger and aggressive language has to stop now. “The deal was done without consultation with the supporters so the board needs to show a bit of humility. “A channel of communication between the Rangers board and the fans is needed now more than ever. “That unity we once shared in the dressing room and that bond with the people in the stands – well, that lasts forever.

The Hammer knows how to smash a ball and he drilled one there that forced a good save for Jens Lehmann in the World XI goal. Kris Boyd got on the end of a long ball from Albertz and he tried to volley it across the goal but Lehmann gets down well to save it. Kaka showed his class and turned Marvin Andrews inside out and when he laid it off to Makaay he turned and hit it and it just strikes the post. He's seeing a lot of the ball but his passing just isn't quite what it was. Ronald de Boer delivers a great ball in from the right and the Georgian flies through the air to head it past Lehmann. Vignal played a ball over the top to De Boer and Lehmann comes running out and takes a brilliant touch to send the Dutch forward for a hotdog. A good chance to equalise for the Spaniard as it falls to him at the edge of the box and he took a good touch but he drilled it well wide of the target. It's a decent ball in from Gio too but it's too far for Novo and goes out for a goal kick. That was a stunning effort from the Portuguese winger as he picks up the ball at the edge of the box and lifts it over the head of Alexander. Ferguson plays Hutton down the right hand side and it's a good ball in but David James comes and collects. And Gazza scored in the final minute of the game - with a bit of help from the opposition - but the place erupted and everyone celebrated wildly with him. A lot of power in the effort by Figo but it's saved brilliantly by Alexander.

More than two decades on from his last appearance for Rangers, Van Bronckhorst was the man that many had come to see as he pulled on his boots once again in a match to mark the club’s 150th anniversary celebrations. Carlos Marchena nodded home a Kaka cross shortly after the break, before Nuno Gomes found the top corner of Neil Alexander’s net with an exquisite finish. There were no points at stake, but the professional pride that still burns within players of this calibre ensured there was no slacking once the pleasantries had been exchanged and photographs taken. Van Bronckhorst calls the shots at Ibrox these days. Time will tell whether any of Van Bronckhorst’s players have it within them to claim their own place in Rangers folklore. HEROES could become legends at Ibrox in the coming months.
