Liverpool yesterday completed the signing of highly-rated teenager Ben Doak yesterday but it emerged that Leeds had rivalled the Reds, as Orta continued his aggressive recruitment plan for the U23 squad. It emerged last week that part of Barcelona's plan to agree a deal with Leeds United for Raphinha involves the idea of offering the Whites a player in part-exchange. The Irishman is plying his trade for Vincent Kompany's Anderlecht in the Belgian Pro League, whilst he also has 16 caps for the Republic of Ireland national team.

2 Leeds United players with an uncertain future under Jesse Marsch (LeedsAllOver)

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has plenty to weigh up ahead of the summer transfer window with the side needing refreshing. There are still eight games…

Roberts is a hard worker and will be showing Marsch what his mentality is like during this period of rehabilitation, but it could be better for him to get a completely new start in his career. It might be in everyone’s best interests for Leeds to cut their losses on him in the summer, and allow him to move elsewhere. Here, we take a look at two players who we think could have a very uncertain future at the club ahead of the summer…

Leeds United may well fancy signing Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza, but the player himself isn't all that keen on a move to Elland Road.

A Catalan kid, Mingueza will have to be absolutely sure about his next move I order to leave the Camp Nou. Leeds may not be quite as glamorous as Barcelona, but Mingueza shouldn’t instantly turn his nose up at a move to the Whites. All hopes appear to be doomed though with Mingueza hardly chomping at the bit to sign for Leeds.

Leeds United offered Clement Lenglet, defender turns down move (MOT Leeds News)

Barcelona appear to be getting desperate in their attempt to sign Leeds United star Raphinha this summer, with Clement Lenglet now offered.

Do the Whites need another central defender though? Lenglet is a French international in an era where they are the current World Cup holders, and who is next now he has said no? The French international is a much bigger name than the others mentioned in this four, and things are really starting to get interesting.

The winger cut inside on the right-hand side and skipped past the Burnley defenders, giving him room to unleash a left-footed shot into the top corner. Thomas played a low ball across the goal and McGrath’s effort went over the crossbar from close range. The goal didn’t count for much, as in the dying moments of the game Leeds worked the ball from side to side and skipper Cian Coleman slid a low cross to the feet of Picksley who finished calmly, giving Leeds their sixth of the afternoon to round off a brilliant performance from the young Whites.

Preview: Leeds United vs Southampton (Leeds United)

Those clashes include one Leeds game - a 2-1 away win at Norwich - and two for the Saints, both of which were 1-1 draws, against Brighton and Tottenham. Jesse Marsch has confirmed that Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper are fit enough to be involved after returning from injury, but possibly not both as starters. “I have watched a lot of their recent matches and I think they’ve been a bit unlucky to not do better in some of these matches. Ralpha Hasenhuttl’s side have won just three times on the road this season from 14 outings, whilst Leeds have won four from 15 home matches. A win for Leeds could see them move above Newcastle United up to 14th in the league table, depending on results elsewhere. The south coast outfit arrive in West Yorkshire having lost their last three, two of which were on home turf against Newcastle United and Watford.

For a good 35 minutes the game had been the one they wanted and they got their reward with a goal for Jack Harrison. But only one goal.

For a period in the second half, left-back Kyle Walker-Peters, fresh from his first two England caps, was electric, and he won a free-kick Ward-Prowse converted. He even played an indirect part in the opening goal, after 29 minutes, tackling Broja with his head with a Gary Kelly-style header as the ball was on the ground. It was tough on Leeds but a reminder that although they are heading in the right direction under the American, there is further to go.

Every word Jesse Marsch said on Leeds United staff mix-up, Saints ... (Leeds Live)

Every word Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch said to the media following his side's 1-1 draw with Southampton at Elland Road.

But I also knew that with our fitness, with the players that we could bring on from the bench, that we would be able to push the game as it went on and we talked about that before the match, that we would have to have an intensive start, but that we felt that as the match went on that we would be able to gain the edge. And we know what a quality player is and what he means to the group. Everyone I see I go to say good game to the players and to the opponent and everyone's looking at the board to see what the results were. But I just feel like the whole group is so locked in and so committed and wants to learn and wants to get better and better. And we have the quality to manage the moment if we can continue to push that in the right way. So you know, obviously, we want to keep developing him and keep pushing him but I've been really happy with the progress that he's made over the last month and I think if he can continue to understand tactically and understand the mentality of the way we want to play, that he can get better and better and better. We keep trying to push him to play more intensively to get better at counter-pressing, to really win his duels and his aerial duels and the more that he can expand his presence on the pitch with and without the ball is just going to make us better and better. So with Joffy we haven't been able to get him coming and get the rhythm and training and everything the way that we have wanted, which has meant that he's played more of a reserve role, but I thought he came on the game and gave a real boost and was clear with the role and was dangerous at times and so we certainly I think you have to consider expanding his role more and more and more within the team and we need him to train. And so it means that in certain moments, we want them to slow down a little bit and not always physically but just in their heads with the ball have a little bit more poise and control with how to put together the next play. I was always a little bit concerned if Cooper could make it the 90 minutes and given the way it was, it was good that he was able to play a full match and get himself going. So we knew that that was going to be important not to give fouls away and then that we had to defend that well, so he put it right in the corner like we were worried he might. But Liam was feeling heavy and we wanted to get him out of the game and put Pascal at the centre back position but we talked about to Pascal before the match that he might have to be a solution at left back if anything happened to Stuart Dallas and so he came in the game, Stuart went to the right and it wound up being fine, but yeah, clearly the communication wasn't what it needed to be.

Leeds might’ve maintained more control in this one, but a positive no doubt is to have the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper back in action. At the other end, Elyounoussi might’ve done better when the ball dropped to him unexpectedly in the Leeds penalty area, but his strike was straight down the throat of Meslier. It was end-to-end action from the get-go as Dan James and Diego Llorente were the early dangermen for Leeds in the opening minutes.

How the Premier League relegation picture looks after Leeds ... (Leeds Live)

After a run of form bettered only by Liverpool, Leeds United might start looking at how high they can climb.

So Everton could leapfrog Leeds, and Burnley could leapfrog Watford, but the points gap between Burnley and Watford to Everton and Leeds looks insurmountable. The two will meet in a vital clash at Vicarage Road next Saturday. Posing little threat of catching Leeds are Norwich City in bottom place, 12 points behind the Whites. Above Norwich are Burnley on 21 points, one behind Watford and nine behind Leeds, but with three games in hand over Leeds. Watford have played two matches more than Burnley and face away trips to Manchester City and Chelsea. Burnley’s run-in includes home matches to Everton, Southampton, Wolves, Aston Villa and Newcastle, with away trips to Watford and Norwich. So it might be that Burnley leapfrog Watford by the end of the season, but climbing out of the relegation zone looks difficult. Elsewhere in the Premier League today, Burnley lost 2-0 to Manchester City and Watford lost 2-0 to Liverpool, helping Leeds to safety.

Blunt Leeds United bailed out by banked credit as nagging Gelhardt ... (Leeds Live)

Here are our four talking points from Leeds United's 1-1 draw with Southampton at Elland Road in the Premier League as Jack Harrison scores the home side's ...

That is the kind of psychology momentum is built upon and in heading now to the home of one of the division’s worst sides there is a big opportunity to break away once and for all from that trapdoor. It was a decent United display and nothing like the nadir of Aston Villa last month, but this game lacked the edge and the nerves of the previous two. For Phillips, while there may have been disappointment on all sides to see him missing from the starting XI, it was still a special moment as the stadium stood to welcome him back to the fore. This was a match that was there for the taking and they did not keep the three points in West Yorkshire. Southampton were not an irresistible force which dominated proceedings and yet they were more than good value for the draw they got. With the best part of half an hour in his legs from Saturday, another week of training will give him a mighty chance of returning to the line-up at Vicarage Road next weekend. That knocked a day-and-a-half out of the youth’s preparations, which proved reason enough to keep him out of the starting XI on Saturday. You would hope, with a full week of training ahead he has a real chance of starting at Watford. The under-23s await on Monday night, Marsch said.
