Unlocking bounty hunter Dengar in the early going should prove especially handy.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has a class-based system, and having bounty hunter Dengar in your lineup could be massively helpful for finding some hidden goodies in Free Play. Though I received a review code, I was travelling for the last couple of weeks and haven’t had a chance to dive in since I got back. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga arrives tomorrow and, if you pick it up, you’ll be able to unlock a couple more characters with these codes that TT Games and Warner Bros. Interactive sent me.

'Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga' review: a cosmic toybox full of ... (NME.com)

'Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga' delivers a game that's filled to the brim with care, comedy and complexity.

But because there isn’t that much freedom to the gameplay, it’s hard to see the value in this once you’ve reached the end of the journey. The good news is that the moment-to-moment movement is a lot of fun, and finding out each character’s special moves and abilities is always a delight. Don’t get me wrong, the open-world aspect is a hell of a lot of fun, but it can feel like you’re playing two very different games at times. The Skywalker Saga covers the main beats of the films, but then dashes through a lot of – what I felt – were important scenes. Of course, when it wants to get silly, The Skywalker Saga gets ridiculous. There are so many tummy-hurting non-verbal gags and mountains of slapstick to get through across the episodes, but some of the game’s best jokes are actually in the dialogue.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga review – best value in the galaxy (Metro)

The Force reawakens with the biggest and most ambitious Lego Star Wars title ever made, and a great game in its own right.

As one of the only examples of a mainstream, multiformat local co-op game, the Lego games have always been great at demonstrating the joys of gaming to non-believers, but The Skywalker Saga even more so. If you find your belt tightening this year, when it comes to your entertainment budget, then in terms of value for money The Skywalker Saga cannot be beaten. What you quickly begin to realise is that Traveller’s Tales could easily have taken the Lego aspect out and made this a straight Star Wars game, as it has some of the best recreations of scenes like the Battle of Hoth and the speeder bike chase. Despite all the other welcome distractions, bashing pieces of Lego apart and hearing the tinkle of collectible studs that results is still the most enjoyable single element and one absolutely anyone can enjoy. Perhaps the most surprising thing about The Skywalker Saga is that it manages to tell a coherent story, to the point where you can understand what’s going on even if you’ve somehow never seen the films. The various amusing cheats are a separate item, with effects ranging from turning lightsabers into baguettes to having a porg follow you around and help in battle. This is the sixth Lego Star Wars game so far, with the 2005 original covering the prequels, the 2006 sequel the original trilogy, and The Complete Saga a year later (see how quickly they were knocking these out?) combining the two into one game. Each class also has its own simple skill tree to unlock and upgrade new abilities, although most of these skills are either not particularly useful or just make the game too easy. While the open world hub areas still use photorealistic visuals for the backdrops the linear story missions portray everything as being made out of Lego bricks, which looks great and even has modern effects like reflective surfaces (true ray-tracing is apparently coming in a later patch, as is better DualSense support). The platforming has seen the least change, and didn’t really need any, while the puzzles, again, are far more complex and varied than many games aimed purely at adults. There aren’t many games where the most important thing you need to know is how bad the bugs are, but with The Skywalker Saga we can happily report that there are virtually none. You can also access lockers with more powerful, limited use, weapons and a surprising number of levels have optional stealth elements, complete with stealth kills.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga review: Blockbuster action in ... (The Independent)

Experience the sci-fi epic across all three trilogies. Here's what we thought of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga's gameplay, exploration and more.

Model kits also make a return and are just as elusive to locate all five pieces, especially on the first pass of a level. For longtime fans of Lego Star Wars, there’s enough of an improvement to the tried and tested formula to warrant some intrigue, if only to see how far the series has come along. There are over 1,100 of these bricks to be found throughout the galaxy with plenty hidden in plain sight. The second player has more bearing over the direction of exploration as a result. As each chapter begins, players are treated to the familiar yellow text crawl before assuming the roles of its featured characters. Along the way, players will collect Lego studs, complete simple puzzles and find hidden collectibles to unlock more content before moving on to the next instalment or replaying it with the shackles of canon removed.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga review - how it fixes the films (Radio Times)

Slotting together the bricks of the franchise in a satisfying way, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a must-play for fans. We reviewed on Xbox Series X.

For more from the biggest stars in TV, listen to the Radio Times podcast with Jane Garvey. If you’re a Star Wars fan and you’ve ever enjoyed a LEGO game, we’d heartily recommend that you check this out. Playfulness runs through every element of this game, with punchlines and wry nods lurking around every corner on every planet. A special shout-out should go to the audio, too, which blends those familiar orchestral parps with note-perfect dialogue and an array of authentic sound effects from the films. It's worth noting that all of the Episodes have been remade from the ground up here. As well as that admirable structural work on the storytelling side, this game is also impressively vast in a physical sense. Very few Star Wars games have offered quite this many planets to explore and characters to control. So whichever way you like to watch the Star Wars films in order, there will be something to suit your preference on offer. The beautiful thing is this: even if you didn’t like some of those films at the time of their release, you may enjoy them here. In some ways, you could even say that it makes the films better. Moments like this, although played for laughs, tighten up the overall storytelling tapestry in a more cohesive way than the movies did. In some ways, you could even say that it makes the films better.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga review - a complete but ... (Eurogamer.net)

Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive · Developer: TT Games · Platform: Played on Xbox Series X · Availability: Out 5th April on PC, PlayStation, Switch, Xbox.

There's less to build, less to adapt and less to see change - and isn't that the point of Lego? There's also often a lot of walking, from one place in an open area to another. Away from its levels, the game's open galaxy is something of a mixed bag. This is livened up by a definite boost to characters as you go through the game, with everything from walking speeds to spaceship laser power upgradable, and some nice class-specific bonuses for certain groups of characters. Her mirror-like Force vision in the Porg-ridden planet's Sith cave offers up a neat piece of unique gameplay, but to get there and back requires you slowly follow Luke around the planet's cliffs to get from A to B to wherever he parked his X-Wing to finish the job. But many other levels trace paths over the game's open world areas, and are the worse for it. For as long as you spend on the game's main film storylines, you can also spend just as long aimlessly wandering through the game's expansive array of planets, undertaking in the series' largest collectible hunt ever.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - Best Order to Play the ... (Den of Geek)

There's no wrong way to play LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, but here are a few of the best ways to work your way through the trilogies.

I’d also argue that those trying to really learn these games may find that The Phantom Menace is the best starting point as it’s structured in a way that really lets you experience a lot of the new ideas found in this collection in a pretty logical way. Whether that’s an argument for playing the games in the “Movie Release” order or saving the best for last is again up to you. Honestly, it’s not that crazy of a way to play through these games if you’re mostly interested in getting to The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker as soon as possible. Granted, the LEGO version of The Rise of Skywalker fares slightly better than the movie, but it’s still not a highlight. The biggest advantage to playing through The Skywalker Saga in this order is that it allows you to really put the prequel trilogy in a different context. Jumping straight from the Prequel Trilogy to the Sequel Trilogy is kind of jarring no matter how you do it. Indeed, if the first Star Wars films were released later than they were (and in a different context), Hollywood logic may have dictated that the original films be followed by sequels and that a series of prequel films be released years down the line. As such, this order is still a great way to experience the LEGO Star Wars games that also lets you play through some of the Skywalker Saga‘s best gameplay moments first. That being the case, I can easily see some longtime LEGO Star Wars fans justifying this strange order simply to get to those entirely new experiences as quickly as possible. The fact that it also allows them to experience that saga in the correct chronological narrative order happens to be an added benefit. The Skywalker Saga lets you choose to start your session in The Phantom Menace, A New Hope, or The Force Awakens (the first entries in each sub-trilogy). Once you beat one of those games, you’re able to move on to the next entry in that trilogy. While the LEGO Star Wars games have always been fun, The Skywalker Saga expands the scope of those titles in a way that makes them far more substantial without compromising the simpler pleasures they’ve traditionally offered.

Traveller's Tales latest title in the Lego game series finally arrives after a longer than expected wait.

The combat system also features counters which have been tailored for specific characters. This combo system punishes players who use the same inputs as the enemies can adapt and will block your attacks. Each film will have five story missions, making a total of 45 levels, contrasting from six levels per episode in previous games. This is a great system to keep players thinking of creative ways to attack, getting the most out of each character. This is a great feature as it allows players to focus on the trilogy they are most fond of from the beginning. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga features films that have been already adapted in previous titles, but this new game is built from the ground up and has really offers a completely new experience.

Speedy Sprint will allow you to run faster. Your priority should be Speedy Sprint, Collectible Detector, and Business Opportunist. You can start upgrading Attract Studs from Core Upgrades and Expert Climber from Scavenger once those are done. There are a few upgrades that you should at least unlock the first tier of. Even though only one Kyber Brick Comet is available in each sector, you can still travel to destroy Stud Comets. Stud Comets will grant players more than 20,000 Studs per comet, and are great for farming the game’s main currency in a short amount of time. Throw your lightsaber with the right trigger, and it will slash through your selected horde of enemies in a few seconds. TT Games' blocky reimagining of the nine films marks an ambitious return to the iconic series.

The other player can sometimes be pulled into or out of interiors, or lose access to weapons too." "Studs can also be spent to enhance skills and unlock new abilities for the different character classes," Reiner added. "Fighting as a Jedi or Sith might not have the depth of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but it's nonetheless fast, fluid, and it feels fantastic." Each of the nine movie adaptions in The Skywalker saga is broken up into five levels, which all take place inside a hub world that players can revisit to unlock new characters and collectibles. "Developer TT Games has been making Lego games for a long time, and this ambitious project shows this studio at the top of its game, delivering brick-smashing fun and wonderfully absurd Star Wars humour from start to finish," Reiner wrote. It is dubbed as the most extensive Lego title to date, with "hundreds of playable characters" spread across an open-world galaxy full of collectibles.

How LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Is Leveling ... (Star Wars)

TT Games' Dawn McDiarmid sits down with StarWars.com to discuss the making of the amitious LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Dawn McDiarmid: Yes, Pew Pew Mode. Unlocking Pew Pew Mode is like journeying back to when you saw Star Wars for the first time as a kid, and you just had to make all the SFX for the lightsabers and blasters yourself. Dawn McDiarmid: As you travel around the galaxy, you will find many nods to other Star Wars content. But personally, all the things I can’t wait for the players to experience are the little interactions with characters on worlds the player will never have experienced before. The Skywalker Saga revisits the old films and approaches the new with the same attention to detail and humor that we are known for. This game aims not to be a remake with the addition of new films, but an all-new experience of the stories we love, for both old fans and new. On top of this, our new blaster battles bring you straight into the action. Game development has come a long way since LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game blistered thumbs way back in 2005, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is leveraging all the medium’s advancements to deliver the biggest, best entry in the series. Players have never before been able to explore the Star Wars galaxy like this. This game is one of the best-looking we’ve ever created and is easily the most ambitious. Everything you see in this game was built from the ground-up in our new engine by our amazing team, and it really shines through. Alongside all the important story beats any fan would expect, from podraces to Rey Skywalker, this game is our biggest yet, featuring an entire galaxy’s worth of content for players to explore. Traveling throughout the galaxy, players can not only experience the stories they know and love, but also create their own adventures, exploring planets, rescuing those in need, taking down Star Destroyers, and feeding a very hungry Sarlacc!

Poe Dameron and Finn see more action in a start screen than the entire sequel trilogy.

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga comes out of the gates swinging, establishing FinnPoe as canon in its main menu screen. Instead of confirming the couple, Disney dashed shippers’ hopes against the jagged rocks of Kef Bir and went the het-route. This big-brained decision is made all the more tragic in retrospect after the characters established their love language on the silver screen by sharing Poe’s jacket.
