- Paul Low-Hang – Zabini - Maja Bloom – Carrow With a new leader in place and Grindelwald’s plan thwarted, the dark wizard then has a confrontation with Albus, which breaks the blood pact vial the pair shared. Albus kindly rejected the offer and pointed the faun to another worthy candidate to be made leader, Vicência Santos, Minister of Magic for Brazil. After bewitching the qilin and standing as a candidate to rule the wizarding world, the qilin bowed before Grindelwald, as planned. However, with a departing statement, Grindelwald fell back off one of the ledges of Bhutan and apparated.
Warner Bros' blockbuster Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore will try to invoke some of the Harry Potter franchise's past magic as the major title ...
Compartment No. 6 follows two strangers on a train towards the arctic circle, who change their perspectives on life over the course of the journey. Curzon is debuting Cannes 2021 Competition Grand Prix winner Compartment No. 6 in 30 locations. Mads Mikkelsen takes on Depp’s role as Grindelwald, while Katherine Waterston joins Redmayne and Law as returning cast. With every film in the series grossing at least £46m and landing in the top 15 highest-grossing films ever in the territory at the time of release, the entire series grossed £442.7m in the UK (and £531.4m including the two Fantastic Beasts films). The previous two Fantastic Beasts films opened in 669 (2016’s Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them) and 677 (2018’s Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald) locations. The Secrets Of Dumbledore – the third film in the Fantastic Beasts spin-off series – will open in 716 locations, the widest-ever opening for Warner Bros, topping the 709 of The Batman from last month.
Tina Goldstein's scenes in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore are limited, and fans have been speculating as to why.
The truth is that unless Waterston or someone else opens up about what happened, we’ll probably never know for sure what went on in Fantastic Beasts 3. While Fantastic Beasts did announce key locations and plans in 2019, the finished film is quite different to what was originally planned. Rowling has strongly denied any accusations of transphobia, and fans have wondered whether Waterston’s role in the film was reduced as a result of her comments. Still, now it’s here – and perhaps the biggest secret (of Dumbledore or otherwise) that has fans confused is the curious case of the missing Tina. After playing a lead role in the first two Fantastic Beasts movies as Auror Tina Goldstein, actor Katherine Waterston is mysteriously absent in the new film. Many took this as a tacit criticism of Fantastic Beasts screenwriter and creator JK Rowling, whose 'gender-critical' views have become more public over the last couple of years. It’s implied they may have rekindled their relationship – in the “future” of Harry Potter’s history they’re married, so it makes sense.
Much has been made about the lack of Tina Goldstein in the Harry Potter spin-off's promotional material.
On her Instagram story, she highlighted a section of the piece that read: "Sorry, you can't be a feminist if you're not for everyone's human rights, notably other women's human rights." Many fans have claimed that it was an intentional decision on screenwriter J. K. Rowling's part after Waterston spoke out in support of trans rights around the time that Rowling's 'gender-critical' views had been called into question. Over the last few months, fans have taken to Twitter to voice their disappointment over the lack of Waterston's Tina in the promotional material for Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, in particular. Though it's worth noting that Theseus is Head of the British Auror Office, and he's keen to join the fight. Early on, Newt's brother Theseus (Callum Turner) clunkily asks why Tina isn't helping them take down Grindelwald. In response, Newt explains that she's a little tied up at the moment after being promoted to Head Auror at MACUSA, the US equivalent of the Ministry of Magic. Things started to change with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Jude Law as a young Dumbledore, and the franchise morphed into something that was centered more on a brewing Wizarding World war than it was animal-related adventures.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is out now in cinemas, but even though there are two extra movies planned, this needs to be the end.
We're sure there are some fans that would love to see that play out on screen, but as has been the issue with the previous movies, that's more of a Harry Potter movie than a Fantastic Beasts movie. Basically, their spells cancelled each other out and that balance somehow led to the destruction of the pendant. And given everything that's happened behind the scenes with this franchise, we hope that the opportunity is taken to end the Fantastic Beasts saga as a trilogy. Talking of Dumbledore and Grindelwald, we know from canon that they eventually have a big battle in 1945, even though they had a blood pact. It turns out that he is a Dumbledore and is Aberforth's son from a previous relationship, who Albus had no clue about. The Secrets of Dumbledore manages to wrap up a few lingering questions for Harry Potter fans, starting with Credence's origin. Rowling has continued to tweet about these issues, including on the same day that the first trailer for the threequel was released. In April 2020, a video was released online in a since-deleted tweet that appeared to show Miller choking a female fan. But it wasn't just the storyline backlash that the sequel had to face. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald came out in November 2018, and faced a new wave of controversy over its content. Reviews were scathing (36% on Rotten Tomatoes) and it felt like it was two hours of setup for what's to come in the three sequels. Whether it was the recasting of Johnny Depp or the backlash against creator JK Rowling's tweets about transgender people, it felt like there was always a story bigger than the movie itself.
FANTASTIC BEASTS 3 SPOILERS REVIEW. The Secrets of Dumbledore finally features strong gay representation and fantastic performances from Jude Law and Mads ...
It's not even a problem that the whole series is nominally based on a slim textbook. To be clear, the film still generally looks very handsome and the performances are universally strong. The 'Asian unicorn' has the unique ability to see the true soul of person and can also see glimpses of the future. The major battles between Dumbledore, Credence and Grindelwald are also rather muddled to watch. It means he too can also see the future but decides the only way to foil Grindelwald is for everyone to do everything that makes no sense, so it can't be predicted. His main mission is to try and get his beloved Queenie (Alison Sudol) back from Grindelwald. The divided lovers are as compelling as ever, although Queenie's 'choice' to follow the dark leader was never that convincing in the first place and provides little real drama this time around. It is a massive moment for representation in the franchise's history and in mainstream blockbusters altogether. Meanwhile, the always watchable Jacob (Dan Fogler) provides huge heart and humour, as usual, and even gets his own wand. He is the powerful centre of this movie and commands every scene he is in, even while his Michael Gambon-esque Irish burr drifts in and out. It is supposed to be unbreakable, a beautiful and terrible symbol of a love that was warped and betrayed. Despite being unimaginably powerful, he keeps failing to kill Albus Dumbledore, and just mopes and broods (genetics at work), until he is suddenly revealed to be close to death as his Obscurus destroys him. That pendant is an inspired piece of plotting, establishing that neither can ever move directly against the other.
We spoke to MinaLima, the graphic design duo behind the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts movies, about how they build the wizarding world.
Then we have House of MinaLima, and in October we have a book called The Magic of MinaLima which will celebrate 20 years of working on Harry Potter. So, a Newt drawing needs to consider how Newt would mark the paper, and we need to understand how Snape would annotate the back of his book differently from someone else. We keep being pulled into the rhythm of this that just keeps us, as a studio, connected to this world. I think in the first Fantastic Beasts movie we made a reference to Harry’s grandfather opening his hair potion business in this state, and the fans really liked that. And that’s kind of how it’s evolved since the early Harry Potter films. This is our 22nd year working on Harry Potter now, and in the beginning we didn’t know we were establishing this graphic language for the wizarding world, but I think people recognise that now. You can see some of the connections, and Easter eggs that one graphic offers to another. That’s mainly down to the hugeness of film production, and the amount of requirements of details; across visual effects, costume, prop manufacturing, directing, and acting. As soon as you step across the threshold, you feel a sense of nostalgia and comfort, of being with like-minded thinkers. They also have a new exhibition linked to Fantastic Beasts 3 and the work they’ve done in the past 20 years for the franchise. With the exhibition, we collated the 12 images that are very strong in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, but we were also able to bring in some other designs we did for the previous two films. The incredible world-building of the fantasy movie series is, in part, down to the amazing work of graphic design studio MinaLima, which is headed by the talented duo Miraphora Mina and Eduardo Lima.
