Stranger Things' first season 4 trailer reveals how life is about to change for Eleven, Joyce, and Hopper in Volume 1 of the next chapter.
While Stranger Things has explored the larger world outside of Hawkins, Indiana, in the past, the show’s fourth season is set to switch things up by splitting its story across a handful of disparate, important locations. Though the story will presumably return to the Upside Down and catch up with Jim Hopper in Russia, Stranger Things’ first season four trailer makes clear that a significant part of its next chapter will unfold in California, where Joyce and the rest of the Byers family have moved. Even though we’ve seen a few teasers of Stranger Things’ upcoming fourth season, none of them really let on just how much larger and epic in scope this next chapter seems like it’s going to be.

Meanwhile, Max’s (Sadie Sink) brother Billy (Dacre Montgomery) gets possessed by a creature from the Upside Down who attempted to eat most of Hawkins’ residents, but was ultimately defeated by the gang. After all the action goes down, The Byers family, along with Eleven, move to a new town, separating the main cast of the series and setting up for this new season to jump between lots of different places to tell the story. The trailer also makes it clear that this season is going for a more classic horror-movie vibe, complete with an eerie haunted house the kids will have to explore.
Stranger Things season 4 trailer hints that a crucial character from season 3 may be back as the new Big Bad.
Assuming that Max's grief and her relationship with Billy become the emotional driving force of season four, as this trailer certainly seems to suggest, could her brother be the new Big Bad? If Billy did indeed end up in the Upside Down, it wouldn't take much for him to be transformed into something more monstrous, something like that gross demon/human hybrid who makes his debut at the trailer's end. Is he reaching out to her from beyond the grave, as it were? But there are a number of hints threaded throughout the new season four trailer which suggest that could be exactly where we're heading. Why is the trailer centering her??’ they wrote. Like why is Max in the Upside Down? Why is she floating? Your suffering is almost at an end.’ While it seems like it could be a logical conclusion for the unrecognisable creature to be Billy in the new season, another fan expressed their belief that it could be Hopper (David Harbour). Plus, the fact that she was shown floating above the ground – in a harrowingly similar way to the creature at the end of the teaser – has led to speculation that there could be a connection between them. The fact that Max is the first character we see in the trailer as she talks to Billy prompted some to predict that she will play an especially significant role in the new season.
Our heroes in Hawkins are worlds apart and the Stranger Things season 4 trailer shows how they'll come back together.
Considered one of the most iconic villains in the game, Vecna was a powerful wizard who became a lich (undead creature). Through many editions of D&D continuity Vecna has appeared as a fearsome foe, even ascending to Godhood at one point. What would a Stranger Things trailer be without our old friend, the Demogorgon? After serving as the big bad in season 1, this flower-headed freak became more of a miniboss in season 2 and 3. It now says “William Hargrove” instead of “Billy Hargrove.” (Can anyone remember a single time Billy was referred to as “William” on this show?) Could the alternate tombstone mean that we’re actually getting a glimpse into a parallel universe, one where Max suddenly has powers? But perhaps he was subjected to unimaginable Lovecraftian horrors and it was really those horrors that killed the Creels in the first place. In the context of season 4, it would appear that bored Russian soldiers make their Siberian prisoners battle the (or “a”) Demogorgon for their own amusement. Getting an American citizen from deep in the Siberian tundra to the Midwestern USA at the height of the Cold War has to be one hell of a logistical challenge. Perhaps now is a good time to mention the song in this trailer is “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” by Journey. That’s fitting given the scattered nature of the show’s characters going into the season. At one point, the clock is embedded into the wall of a hallway (likely in Hawkins High School) and appears to be bursting forth from the Upside Down itself. Eventually the Creel family patriarch Victor (played by Robert Englund) lost his mind and murdered his whole family in cold blood. The narration in this trailer makes it clear that the shadowy powers-that-be in the U.S. need help from the whole Hawkins team, Hopper included, to confront a new threat. First introduced as a devastatingly handsome bully in season 2, Billy became a full-on supervillain in season 3 when the Mind Flayer took over his body. The trailer opens with a helpful reminder of how season 3 ended.

The Duffer Bros. tease the character is the Netflix show's equivalent of Pennywise or Freddy Krueger.
Makes sense that the biggest bad in the Upside Down would be cut from cloth that our D&D-obsessed Hawkins heroes would understand, and we have a feeling that a new season four character—Eddie, head of the high school’s Dungeons & Dragons club—will be involved. We wanted something there that we could actually film, and I just think that that makes this villain scarier and more real and tangible and we’re just really excited for people to see him this season.” “Those were the monsters that really inspired us this season,” Ross Duffer said to IGN. “Something else we really wanted to do go back to season one and actually do a monster that we could do mostly practically.

The fourth season of Stranger Things will set the stage for the series’ curtain call at the end of season five. According to our trusted and proven insider, just like Eleven, the new Stranger Things villain started out as one of the children being experimented on at Hawkins National Laboratory. Vecna was Number One. As our source explained, the lab sent the child into the Upside Down, where he or she was transformed into a spider-like monster with the ability to entrance its victims before killing them. And in true Stranger Things style, the creature’s name originates comes from a Dungeons & Dragons lore character.
