Burnley link terribly timed & creates tension but Boro must keep focus (Teesside Live)

Yet again, it was far from the response that Middlesbrough supporters were hoping for. Asked again about speculation linking him with the vacant manager's ...

We've all seen that in his time at the club so far. They made a hard pitch to Wilder to convince him to leave Sheffield United, of which publicly then his comments were almost identical to those he makes now at Boro. What ultimately happened? Naturally, Boro fans would love Wilder to 100% commit to Boro, but in a sport he knows only too well you can never say never in, he wouldn't want to come out and make promises he doesn't know for certain he can keep. Given his comments, it seems likely he would listen to what they have to say, but that's not to say he would leave. For what it's worth, I don't believe that to be the case. Sometimes they can be influenced by genuine knowledge or reports, but right now there hasn't been any strong suggestions from the Lancashire end that Burnley's search for a new boss has reached that stage as they appear to be taking their time and assessing their options.

Burnley's hunt for a new manager is ramping up this week with the Clarets keen to move as quickly as possible to replace Sean Dyche.

Indeed Burnley have been linked with a move for Middlesbrough's Kieran Scott with a view to fulfilling the role vacated by Mike Rigg last year but it is understood he is happy at the Riverside Stadium and has no intention of leaving. The chances of Wilder leaving for Burnley at this stage in the season are slim and it is understood he remains committed to Boro. Don't miss a thing from the club you love!

And with four games to play, Boro are still in with a shout of a top six finish, a position that looked unlikely when Wilder was appointed in October. On the pitch, Boro have stumbled of late and are now four without a win, but there's no panic within the club, with sources telling Teesside Live there's instead a sense of perspective as to how far the side have come under Wilder in a relatively short space of time. Wilder is favourite with the bookies to replace Sean Dyche at Turf Moor. And while the Boro boss didn't categorically rule out the links when quizzed by reporters after the games against Bournemouth and Huddersfield, behind the scenes it's been business as usual with Wilder planning for the rest of the season and beyond.
