And that is a huge shame not only because it will impact the atmosphere of this London derby but it is the ideal evening for football. Stamford Bridge will not be full this evening with only Chelsea season ticket holders allowed to attend for the home side. Writing in his Sky Sports column, Merson said: "Arsenal are still in the top four race. That's of course if they get the job done tonight. Bukayo Saka at right wing back is something I have to say I'm skeptical about if that does turn out to be the case, but I do get the idea of playing it cautious up against this formidable Chelsea side. Takehiro Tomiyasu not even making the bench again is a worry but here's hoping he can make it back in time for Saturday's clash with Manchester United. They are in the top four now. An interesting team from Mikel Arteta. Lacazette on the bench. You can follow all of the live coverage as and when it happens in our dedicated live blog below. Drifts inside, curls a wonderful cross into the box. Bukayo Saka got an increasing amount of joy on the right wing, seemingly beating Marcos Alonso at will, and he was involved as the Gunners restored their lead. Andreas Christensen played a terrible backpass, Eddie Nketiah pounced on it and finished with consumate ease past Edouard Mendy for his first Premier League goal of the season. 60% of the ball for Chelsea in that first-half. What a mad half of football, played at an insane pace. Big half to come for Arsenal.

Edouard Mendy is given the ball with Arsenal pressing up the pitch. Arsenal will arguably be the happier side as they’ve been lacking goals recently but have looked sharp in front of goal. The first half swung beautifully back and forth as Eddie Nketiah opened the scoring before Timo Werner equalised a few minutes later. Kick off: Thiago Silva has come on for Chelsea replacing Andreas Christensen in the back line. The striker halts his run though as he looks offside and Aaron Ramsdale comes out to tidy up for Arsenal. He curls a low pass into the box for Lukaku to run onto but the forward is blocked off by Xhaka who holds him up long enough for Ramsdale to scoop up the loose ball.

Eddie Nketiah double hands Arsenal vital win amid Chelsea chaos (The Guardian)

Eddie Nketiah scored twice to give Arsenal a crucial 4-2 win over Chelsea as they chase a place in the top four.

The left wing-back found Nketiah and, when Silva, Sarr and N’Golo Kanté failed to clear, the striker prodded the ball past Mendy. Arsenal appealed for a foul on White; in truth the defender was not strong enough. After 32 minutes Mount hounded Ben White off the ball and crossed for César Azpilicueta, who escaped Tavares and prodded the ball home. The goal summed up Chelsea’s difficulties without Thiago Silva and Rüdiger at the back. The problem, however, was that the opening period summed up the contradictions in this Arsenal team. Two goals from Eddie Nketiah, his first in the league this season, were enough for them to go level on points with Tottenham in fourth place with six games left.

Arsenal boost top four hopes by stunning Chelsea in Stamford ... (Metro)

Arsenal gave their Champions League hopes a significant boost with a memorable 4-2 win away at Chelsea in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

It was a strange foul from Azpilicueta on Saka, with the Chelsea man feeling he was being dragged down himself, but the referee and VAR decided it was a penalty. Nuno Tavares got hold of a loose pass in midfield and played the ball into the feet of Nketiah on the edge of the box. It was Arsenal that took a surprise lead just 13 minutes into the contest as Andreas Christensen completely fluffed his lines and allowed Nketiah to run in on goal, and despite not scoring all season beforehand, coolly finish past Edouard Mendy.

On that evidence, something will need to change in a big way over the summer. When Romelu Lukaku starred against Arsenal in the reverse fixture, he looked like he would be able to do no wrong in a Chelsea shirt. Arsenal's third goal was a prime example of Chelsea's defensive issues, with a lack of communication and coordination allowing Nketiah to steal in. Nketiah capitalised on a defensive error to give the visitors the lead, reopening the debate over his Arsenal future in the process. With Alexandre Lacazette not fit to start after a recent bout of Covid, Eddie Nketiah was handed another chance in attack. It gives an advantage to both sides heading into the derby between Chelsea and Arsenal on Wednesday night, with at least one of the two sides set to extend their lead over them. Owen says the Blues are back on top form and that the Gunners could be be in trouble after an awful run recently. Michael Owen says that Arsenal's decision to let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave the club in January could prove costly in the Mikel Arteta's quest for a place in the Champions League places. For Chelsea, they currently sit in an awkward position with the Blues all but guaranteed a top-four finish, but are too far behind the top two to be involved in a title race. Arsenal were thought to be in the driving seat just two weeks ago, but defeat in each of their last three games has completely altered proceedings. It comes after a horrific fortnight for Mikel Arteta's side that has completely changed the balance of the race for Champions League qualification. Arsenal are now three points off of the pace, with their clash with Chelsea representing a significant examination of their top-four credentials. The defeat means that the Gunners have fallen three points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the top four. Meanwhile, Antonio Conte’s side have a fairly kind run-in with a trip to Liverpool the only real cause for concern. "We're going to go there as always to win the match and that is going to be our intention tomorrow when we're at Stamford Bridge." “We want to play a physical game again, want to demand again from the team. Arsenal giving the ball away in their own half again, and Werner cuts inside from the left.

It was not the main reason - he deserves to play first of all and Kai is a bit tired. You look at the two teams on paper and there is a stark contrast in firepower. Chelsea on the attack again with Mount finding space and they win a corner. Elneny drops his team in it with an underhit pass in his own defensive third but Werner and Mount fail to get a shot off with red shirts around them. Chelsea back on the attack and have a corner on the left, this game is swinging back and forth. Arsenal giving the ball away in their own half again, and Werner cuts inside from the left. They took a risk playing out from the back but managed to keep the ball and find Odegaard in midfield. Odegaard in space again, and Smith Rowe arrives at the edge of the box to stroke it into the bottom corner. Saka beats Alonso all ends up and finds Nketiah with the cut-back, but he snatched at it and it scuffed wide. Arsenal had space down the left but Odegaard overhit the ball to Nketiah and the attack died. A Tavares cross his Azpilicueta in the face and the referee stops the game, much to Arteta's annoyance on the touchline. Moments after Azpilicueta went down, Nketiah took a kick from Sarr and Arsenal made sure the play was stopped in return.

Chelsea v Arsenal: Premier League – live! (The Guardian)

Thomas Tuchel's side are back in form as the Gunners come to town. Join Rob Smyth for updates.

Chelsea are going to finish third, barring a tale of the seriously unexpected, whereas Arsenal are involved in an increasingly messy struggle for fourth place. Injuries, outgoing loans and the inherent irreplaceability of Thomas Partey have left Arsenal short in recent weeks, and few people fancy them to get anything tonight. There will be a reduced crowd at Stamford Bridge the night. Christensen played a poor backpass, well short of Mendy, and Nketiah was onto it in a flash. He cut inside and hit a pretty tame shot that took a deflection off Xhaka, who turned away from the ball, and spun past Ramsdale. I’m pretty sure Werner’s shot was going wide, in which case it will go down as a Xhaka own goal. Another way, perhaps, in which that Wenger-era Arsenal seems to span the birth of Football Today.” Loftus-Cheek won the ball 30 yards from goal and gave it to Werner on the left. It was an excellent break, starting with an indecently cool nutmeg on Alonso by Xhaka. Eventually Odegaard played a short pass to Smith Rowe, who ran onto the ball in the D and shaped a sweet first-time shot into the far corner. Nketiah turns Sarr smartly, 22 yards out, and cracks a left-footed shot just wide of the near post. It was a pretty poor challenge from Mount, actually, and he’s fortunate not to be booked. 25 min Saka’s deflected shot is headed across goal by Nketiah and volleyed off target by the stretching Tavares. No matter: Tavares was offside. That was crying out for Mick Harford, arriving late to put the ball and four Chelsea defenders into the net.

The keeper was rooted to the spot as the ball flew just the wrong side of the woodwork. Saka was hauled down in the box by Azpilicueta, and stepped up himself to thump in goal number four. But within four minutes it was Nketiah’s turn to give the ball away, and Chelsea levelled. At the other end Nketiah bobbled a shot just wide after wonderful work from Saka just inside the area. Chelsea had had the better of the opening ten minutes. But two goals without reply after the break – another from former Chelsea academy striker Nketiah and Bukayo Saka from the penalty spot - were enough to give us a much-needed victory.

Chelsea twice fought back to equalise but were unable to salvage a point as Arsenal came out on top following a breathless London derby at Stamford Bridge.

Yet the siege on Arsenal’s goal never arrived and Saka sealed the precious points in stoppage time when he won and converted a penalty in front of the travelling supporters. Werner also had another effort, left-footed and spinning away from the far corner, as Chelsea pushed to avoid the ignominy of a third successive winless season against the Gunners at the Bridge. The wing-back brought the ball down nicely but was off-balance and couldn’t hit the target. The visitors struck first by capitalising on a lapse at the back and meting out maximum punishment as a long clearance forward from Nuno Tavares caused the problems. The visitors then made sure of the points in stoppage time as Bukayo Saka won and converted a penalty to boost their European qualification aspirations. With both sides lacking their usual defensive options, there was a sense in the spring air that chances, goals and entertainment could be in plentiful supply.

There are shoots of hope and promise in this Arsenal team, with Smith Rowe possessing the aura of one who can do anything with a football.

In a game filled with errors it could have been the perfect conditions for Romelu Lukaku to rebound from recent poor form. His second — Arsenal’s third — was composed of tenacious luck and dogged determination, the ball pin-balling off Chelsea toes before Nketiah lashed out a leg to beat Mendy. The 22-year-old who had not scored a league goal for 367 days became the first Arsenal player to score two against Chelsea since Robin van Persie in 2011. And there were appeals for a foul by Mason Mount before he whipped in the ball that Cesar Azpilicueta turned past Ramsdale with a cute touch. Smith Rowe, with the aura of one who can do anything with a football. If we will one day again see a Chelsea and Arsenal manager square up to one another in the same way we saw Arsene Wenger tower over Jose Mourinho like two maths teachers after one too many at the end-of-term drinks in 2014. It’s probably the first time a ball has been passed so majestically into the net from outside the area at Stamford Bridge since Ronaldinho visited with Barcelona in 2005.

It was superb forward play, and finally set the game further back. The midfielder played the most beautiful curved ball for Cesar Azpilicueta to arrive at the front post and guide the ball like an arch finisher. Xhaka used his feet to deliberate and rather deft effect, winning the ball back there and then starting the move with a nutmeg. This may well have been Christensen’s last game for the club and, if so, it was crowned by a dreadful back pass that gifted Arsenal the lead. It was admittedly difficult to escape the feeling that a relatively secure Chelsea weren’t at their most focused, not that Thomas Tuchel will see it that way. It was also the wicked deflection off Granit Xhaka, as Timo Werner’s shot spun off the midfielder’s foot.

Nketiah proves Arteta wrong, gives Arsenal new life in top-four race ... (ESPN.co.uk)

Both Eddie Nketiah and Romelu Lukaku are out of favour, yet the former fueled an unlikely Arsenal win as Chelsea's record signing's slump continued.

Cesar Azpilicueta showed a striker's touch to poke home Mason Mount's cross to send the teams in level at the break, but Arsenal made the most of more defensive uncertainty, not eradicated by Thiago Silva's half-time introduction for Christensen. But still, we had the same mistake against Real Madrid that cost us the next round of the Champions League, and this one cost us the next match. Perhaps Arteta's shift to a three-man defence surprised Tuchel somewhat but, not for the first time, it was individual errors that cost them dearly. Lukaku looked off the pace in attack and provided a reminder of what Chelsea lose in their pressing game when Kai Havertz is not leading the line. Contrast that with Lukaku, who gave a more incendiary interview in December that prompted Blues boss Thomas Tuchel to drop the Belgium international in a move from which his individual form has never recovered. Both are out of favour and may well be playing their football at different clubs next season after publicly voicing concerns about how they are being utilised, yet Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah -- the 22-year-old making only his 13th top-flight start -- outshone pedigree heavyweight Romelu Lukaku to breathe fresh life into the Gunners' top-four hopes with a brace in Wednesday's 4-2 win at Chelsea.

When we had the ball we were good and created good chances to score maybe one or two more, but in the end we take the three points like this. It is not what we wanted, but what we wanted was to show a reaction and I think, over 90 minutes, we deserved to win the game. But it will also come down to a battle of wills and nerve as Arsenal looked like they had blown up after three straight defeats before their win at Chelsea on Wednesday night.

LEWIS HAMILTON is ready to commit millions of pounds to one of Chelsea's interested suitors despite being an Arsenal fan.

I've supported Arsenal since I was five. “I think his future is as bright as he wants it to be so I hope he takes the positivity out of all the great experiences he's had." “He asked me to go and train with the team, which I have not managed to do yet, but he was always really welcoming and it was cool to meet 'our team's' boss. "For anyone to have commitment to a team and the loyalty which he has shown through all the ups and downs, through outside individuals saying positives and negatives, but to stay true to your values and continue to strive for what you believe in I think has really been awesome. “I played centre midfield and I would do the work with attack and defence so I was running twice the amount of yardage.” “I grew to love the team with Ian Wright, obviously at the time,” Hamilton told Sky Sports when quizzed on his love of football.

There's a training boost for United, ahead of Saturday's game with the Gunners in north London.

Thomas Partey departed the pitch at Selhurst Park with a thigh problem, just before the Eagles scored their final goal of a 3-0 win, and both he and Tierney may have played for the last time this season. Former Arsenal striker John Hartson believes it would be 'tragic' if Eddie Nketiah was to leave the Emirates this summer on a free transfer.

‘But it would be tragic if Nketiah was allowed to leave Arsenal because you’ve got a natural finisher there. ‘He just needs a bit of experience and an arm around him and I think he’ll thrive. Maybe in the last year or so, he’s not found the the form that he’s found now.
