Whyte will wait, Fury will pray. Tyson Fury has promised to sail off in a new yacht and get fat and happy away from the ring after this fight. The scars and years of abuse and devotion to the brutal trade have taken its toll on the big lad; the cocaine, the booze, the depression, the deaths of loved ones have hurt him. “I want to fight the best,” said Whyte. “Most believe he’s the best of all-time, why would I not want the fight the best of all-time again? He tried to die, he tried his best to annihilate his boxing history. Everybody will feel the heat. Whyte (28-2, 19 knockouts) has waited a long time for a shot at world heavyweight glory, and it finally arrives on the grandest stage as the Jamaican-born Londoner looks to become the first man to defeat Fury (31-0-1, 22 KOs). Dillian Whyte has told WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman that he "almost lost his mind" during his 1,638-day wait for a world heavyweight title fight.

For that, he refused to travel to the fight's launch press conference in London, but he has now worked out those issues and appeared at the pre-fight media day. "I only try to bring maximum violence, I try. Why didn't you guys make me fight Deontay Wilder? This is the facts - don't tell me it's the pandemic.

Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte: 94000 fans to watch the biggest ... (CNN)

"Who would have thought it?" Tyson Fury asked, almost incredulous. "Even we didn't think we'd be doing 90-odd thousand at Wembley."

Curiously, though, Wednesday's press conference was the first time these two fighters had come face-to-face in the build up to this fight. "You lot hear one side because they say a lot of things. "Tyson Fury is not this massive giant superstar everyone says he is, he's not. When Fury first made the claim at the fight's unveiling press conference in March, most took his words with a pinch of salt. "It ranks right at the top." Even forgetting his power and skill, Whyte's hunger alone makes him a formidable foe. "Obviously the biggest crowd [in Europe] and you've got two top heavyweight fighters going head-to-head. Every good dog has its day." This opportunity for a shot at a world title has been long-awaited -- and is well-deserved -- and the 34-year-old is ready to take it with both hands, with multiple reports claiming this has been by far the most intense training camp of his career. Heavyweight boxing has been blessed with numerous memorable fights in recent years, with Fury involved in many of the best, and Parker believes Saturday's fight is "right up there." Much has changed since Fury and Whyte were those fledgling fighters -- "a great journey," as Fury called it -- and the two are now the main attraction in one of the biggest nights in boxing history. That "someone," he specifies, is Whyte. "Tyson is going to knock him out in the middle rounds, between five and nine," Parker adds with assurance.

Fury is the overwhelming favourite to successfully defend his WBC heavyweight belt against Whyte on Saturday night.

“The only real loss he has, on my estimations, was against Anthony Joshua in a fight which he had no right hand, he had a big operation after the fight. “I think people are really underestimating Whyte and there’s a reason why he’s not got his shot for as long as he has. I wouldn’t advise anyone to ever do that but it seems that is just the character he is.” “Tyson will take the fight as it comes, he just seems to adapt to every problem that he faces. “Whyte is facing a tricky task because he won’t ever really know what Tyson is going to come out with. No stranger to being written off, his credentials were hit badly by his knockout defeat to Alexander Povetkin in 2020, and for some they never recovered even when he successfully avenged that loss against the ageing Russian.

Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury Faces Dillian Whyte in London (The New York Times)

Even before Saturday's fight at Wembley Stadium in London, the undefeated heavyweight champion was pestered with disruptions.

In October, Fury survived a pair of knockdowns to stop Wilder in the 11th round of their third bout. Fury has not spoken nearly that explicitly about his relationship with Kinahan, whose ties to pro boxing are both obvious and opaque. “They’re going to see a good tear-up,” said Fury, 33, who weighed in at 264 pounds. He can be the tactical boxer who first claimed a world title with a cautious decision over Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015. He has scored 19 knockouts in his 28 wins and has defeated a series of first- and second-tier heavyweight contenders. Fury was repeatedly asked about his relationship with Kinahan at a press event this week but declined to elaborate.

The pair will likely add to their massive purses with big money sponsorship deals and endorsements. I'm a professional at the end of the day and here I am." But he appears to have taken the deal offered and will make a career-high payday, with a possibility of that amount rising up to £8.6m if he wins the fight. The WBC have issued a new rule where a 10 per cent deposit, in this case £3.1m, will be awarded to the winner of the bout. Frank Warren made an unprecedented £31million purse bid to wrestle the fight from Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, who themselves would have broken records with their £25m offering.

Four years in the making, Whyte finally gets a shot at Fury but few are backing him against the WBC heavyweight champion of the world.

You could go to the cemetery, dig somebody up and that somebody could beat Tyson Fury, according to David Haye. I don’t care if you’re big, small, if you have things to say that are stupidity, I’m going to pull you on them. Fury says he will “go out with a bang” and then “sit back and enjoy life”. Not someone who has come from a boxing family, or someone who has gone to the Olympics and been in the Olympic bubble. You could pick someone out of Darby and Joan to box Tyson and he’d say these people can beat him. He is currently petitioning BT Sport to have him removed. “Like Tyson said, we didn’t expect to be here – me especially,” says Whyte. “But I’m ready to go. John Fury adds: “He doesn’t pose any threat, we don’t see him as a threat. He has been shot, stabbed and once recalled how he had picked a bullet out of his body with a pair of pliers. While the Furys are a dynasty, Whyte stresses he is a one-man band. I’m ready to rock and roll.” “I am a guy who as a kid, had no future, no education, no family.

The bout was ruled a draw, controversially, but Fury pointed out that his real victory had been in surviving depression. I sank into my seat as Fury collapsed in a heap, his head hitting the canvas. Then, in December 2018, on the wild night when he sealed his comeback, Fury did something extraordinary. “No. I’m happy for the good times and happy for the bad times. Just like boxing, like life itself, Fury is a twitching mass of contradictions, inspiring and disturbing in equal measure. I’ve got my own troubles to look after with six kids and a wife nagging me to death for not being at home to help. There is a name for what I have where, one minute I’m happy, and the next minute I’m sad, like commit-suicide-sad.” She accepted it because I wanted the last fight to be at Wembley.” I also know how much Fury loves being in the ring and that, for all its dark and unsettling flaws, there is nothing like boxing. “Oh, it’s definitely the last one,” Fury says. Fury waves back as he says of his bleak moments: “I’ve learnt to manage it a bit better now. We’re just a five-minute stroll from Wembley Stadium where, on Saturday night, Fury will apparently make his final walk to the ring as the world heavyweight champion when he defends his WBC title against Dillian Whyte in front of a roaring crowd of 94,000.

Tyson Fury is rightly wary but Dillian Whyte win would be a seismic ... (The Guardian)

Both British heavyweights are in confident mood after a tumultuous buildup to their epic Wembley showdown.

In August 2020, in the midst of lockdown, he fought the old Russian warhorse Alexander Povetkin. The acute loneliness of heavyweight boxing engulfed Whyte after he was knocked out in the fifth round by a sickening uppercut. For all the enduring unpredictability of some heavyweight contests, and the volatile lives of both men, Fury should win again. He fathered a child at the age of 13 and his life has often been tumultuous. Obviously the crowd does play a part and there are going to be 94,000 people there. It says much about Whyte’s nerve, and the fearlessness which Fury recognises, that he demanded a rematch. If it’s written in the stars that I win again, we will have a drink after the fight to a very successful night and career. Fury has had an often difficult fight week and there were occasions when he has been riled by persistent questions about his past working relationship with Daniel Kinahan, the alleged leader of a drug cartel. He remains unbeaten after those 32 fights and Fury really believes he is the best heavyweight in the world by some distance, “I know he thinks he’s the six foot nine inch version of Muhammad Ali, George Foreman and Mike Tyson rolled into one,” Whyte said, “but he’s only a man. I will be leaving every ounce of strength and energy I have in the ring. I’ve sparred him a lot in the past and he didn’t show any weaknesses. A couple of days later, in the shadow of the huge arena where Fury will defend his WBC title against his British challenger, the world champion and undoubted favourite was just as blunt and respectful. He will receive 20% of the record $41,025,000 fight purse.

The WBC heavyweight title is on the line from Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday night.

And if his public workout this week was any indication, in which he worked out from southpaw for the entirety, it's likely "The Gypsy King" has a few wrinkles up his sleeve to keep Whyte guessing. In the end, Whyte pushes the pace consistently enough to where it's either him or you that gets stopped. In many ways, Fury's third fight against Wilder last fall was the perfect prerequisite for the challenge Whyte brings to the table. Instead, the 34-year-old Whyte is expected to bring a sturdy challenge to the 6-foot-9 Fury thanks to his 6-foot-4 frame, durability and punching power. I've had a couple slipups along the way, but I'm here and I'm ready to go. Because of that, Fury will need to properly mix his two styles as both boxer and puncher. Given Fury's pre-fight comments, it's an inevitability he appears to accept, which is why his predictions have consistently been a knockout. The fans are in for a real treat," Fury said.
