Franco Colapinto took victory in a dramatic FIA Formula 3 sprint race in Imola after snatching back the lead from Caio Collet on the final lap.
Cohen's race went from bad to worse, the Israeli forced to pit for a new front wing after making contact with Kaylen Frederick on the restart. Hadjar's attempt to follow Colapinto past Collet on the final lap ended in a trip to the gravel, although he continued to finish fifth Colapinto held on to second place throughout, but was able to regain the lead from Collet on the run to the Tamburello chicane beginning the final tour after a virtual safety car period had ended.

Outside the podium was Roman Stanek in fourth, who picked up his first points of the year, just ahead of Hadjar. The Argentine seized the lead into Turn 1 but Collet was under threat from Hadjar, who placed his car on the outside of Collet. Collet took the lead of the sprint race on Lap 4, making the most of DRS down to Turn 1 to get ahead of Colapinto.

Reece Ushijima and Federico Malvestiti tangled as David Schumacher went off on Lap 13 to bring the safety car back out again. During the resulting safety car period, Kush Maini received a drive-through penalty for starting outside his grid box. The Campos Racing driver joined him in a separate incident several seconds later.

The green flag was shown less than a lap later and Collet again was able to get away while leaving Colapinto and Hadjar to their duel. The safety car ended again on lap 16, Collet leading away while Hadjar pursued Colapinto for second into the start of lap 17. Collet fought back within the first lap and was able to reclaim second.

Roman Stanek was a beneficiary of the late drama to move into fourth place, ahead of Hadjar, who was able to keep going through the gravel after his collision with Collet. The Alpine-backed youngster was involved in a collision with fast-charging Red Bull junior Isack Hadjar on the approach to the first chicane and was pitched into the gravel. Collet, who led for much of the race after passing pole man Colapinto on the fourth lap, left empty-handed after he was involved in a clash mere seconds after losing top spot.
