Arsenal vs Manchester United LIVE: Premier League latest score ... (The Independent)

Follow live updates as Arsenal host Manchester United in the race for the Premier League's top four.

Incredible start for Arsenal and a great moment for Tavares who scores his first Gunners goal. United haven’t fallen apart since conceding but this is all Arsenal at the moment. United aren’t sleeping as Sancho gets into the box and then he and Ronaldo call for a handball. It’s threaded through the players and Diallo hits a stunning ball which hits the woodwork. A shot came in but De Gea saved. I think he is staying on the pitch. Follow live updates as Arsenal face Manchester United in a match that could prove crucial in the Premier League top-four race. United are now looking to produce a similar result, following their humiliating 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in midweek, and three points would get Ralf Rangnick’s side back in the race. The size of the task facing Ten Hag was made clear by United’s performance at Anfield and there will be a number of players in Rangnick’s squad who could now be fighting for their own futures at the club. Both these teams have struggled for consistency in recent weeks and a draw would do little for either side, with Tottenham facing Brentford in tonight’s later game. Arsenal 1-0 Manchester United, 25 mins Arsenal 1-0 Manchester United, 30 mins

21 mins: Another United penalty appeal, again no penalty. So the goal will not count. Matic curls a cross towards the back post and Ronaldo is given too much room and he doesn’t miss from six yards out. But Nketiah is offside, though. United are back in it. Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

Confirmed: Harry Maguire Dropped From Man United Starting XI To ... (Sports Illustrated)

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has been dropped by interim manager Ralf Rangnick for Saturday's Premier League match at Arsenal.

Maguire has endured a difficult week. I can only tell you, never in my life will I be part of Instagram. But Eric Bailly was not the man to replace Maguire in Rangnick's team to face Arsenal. Both defenders were named among the substitutes with Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof starting at center-back.

Granit Xhaka's cracker caps Arsenal's wild win over Manchester ... (The Guardian)

Arsenal boosted their chances of a top-four finish as Granit Xhaka capitalised on a Bruno Fernandes penalty miss.

Dalot then hit the post after a Ronaldo pass while Tavares was fortunate not to be penalised for a challenge on Elanga on the fringes of the area. McTominay worked Ramsdale and, when Ronaldo spun and lashed home after a Fernandes headed flick, he was denied by the tightest of offside calls. He was reprieved when Fernandes stuttered, hopped and dragged his kick against the outside of a post. The same could be said of Tavares’s decision to jump for a United corner with his arm outstretched. Their last line was all over the place, and soon let Eddie Nketiah in for a one-on-one chance. The excellent Bukayo Saka shaped a shot for the far corner which was tipped out by De Gea at full stretch, but the United defence remained on their heels, particularly Dalot, and Tavares was able to tap home.

Arsenal 3 - 1 Manchester United - Match Report (Arsenal.com)

He found space inside the box, beat his man superbly, but blazed a shot high and wide. United had been a threat throughout the opening half hour, and pulled a goal back through Cristiano Ronaldo, who stole in at the far post to fire home a looping cross. The first half was action-packed, and had flown by. Moments later Nketiah thought he had beaten the keeper, only for the goal to be ruled out by VAR for a very close offside call. The crowd were up for it from the kick off, and the team responded immediately. There were just two minutes on the clock when Tavares gave us the lead.

Arsenal's wild win vs. Man United showed why top-four battle is ... (ESPN)

Arsenal's chaotic 3-1 victory over Manchester United underlined why the clubs vying for fourth place in the Premier League need it so desperately.

"But again, this is why we have a VAR, and you should expect if the referee plus the VAR check, they should in the end take the right decision. We were at least unlucky, but again, we have to get better at defending the box. If he is to be the focal point of a new United side, the 27-year-old has to find more efficiency in his play than this. "My belief is that we are going to give it a real go; we can win football matches, but the margins are going to be really small and we have to be very aware of that," Arteta said postmatch. But Fernandes was so wasteful in open play that the worst thing he could have done was turn his penalty into a pass, rolling the ball against Ramsdale's right-hand post. Neither team can be relied upon for any consistency if they continue to defend like this and yet, back-to-back wins -- following three consecutive defeats -- elevated Arsenal into fourth place ahead of Tottenham's trip to Brentford later in the day.

Paul Scholes reveals that Jesse Lingard told him that Man United's ... (Daily Mail)

Ralf Rangnick appeared to take a swipe at Jesse Lingard when he was questioned about the atmosphere in Manchester United's dressing room.

I don't see there is an issue in regard to the locker room.' 'Anthony Elanga was arm-in-arm with [Tavares], the other player with him. I had a quick chat with Jesse the other day and I'm sure he won't mind me saying he said the dressing room is just a disaster.' They checked it but for whatever reason still gave the goal. This is for me normal but I think the whole group get on reasonable with each other, I'm not daring to say they get on well with each other. It's a disaster of a dressing room.

39 then played in Fernandes on the edge of the area, with Gabriel quickest to react as he managed to block the Portugal international’s lofted effort on goal. The Gunners then thought they had doubled their advantage, as Saka played in Nketiah to fire home, before VAR intervened and ruled out the forward’s goal for offside. Ralf Rangnick’s side were in the ascendancy as the game approached the 25-minute mark, with Jadon Sancho beginning to come alive. There was still time for more chances at both ends, with the two sides attacking with real intent. After just a mere two minutes of proceedings at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal took the lead through full-back Tavares. Xhaka’s cross found Saka inside the area, with David De Gea called into action to deny him initially. Ramsdale then was almost caught red-faced soon after, as his kick-out was short and fell kindly to McTominay after 11 minutes.

The early start presents United with an opportunity to respond to the poor performance at Liverpool on Tuesday and maintain an unbeaten league run in London that stretches back to 1 January 2020, when today's opponents beat us 2-0. Bruno's fellow Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo spearheads the team after missing the Anfield game due to compassionate leave, with Scott McTominay fit enough to play in midfield after being an unused substitute on Merseyside. The Reds must win in the capital to retain any real hope of making next season's Champions League but meet a Gunners side high on confidence again after a brilliant 4-2 win at Chelsea in midweek ended a run of three successive defeats.

Arsenal player ratings vs Man United: Granit Xhaka the star man as ... (Evening Standard)

Arsenal moved up to fourth in the Premier League by beating Manchester United at Emirates Stadium.

Had a good game in the heart of midfield, acting as a calming presence. Had a crazy game at left-back. Sloppy in possession at times. A bit shaky all game. Opened the scoring early on, but then gave away a penalty in the second-half for handball. Was a bit shaky in possession, but made up for that with one or two excellent saves - particularly one to deny Diogo Dalot in the second-half.
