Under-fire PSG boss Pochettino had initially been the favourite to land the Manchester United job, as revealed in February, with the Old Trafford hierarchy identifying the Argentine as a leading candidate for the role. That has carried on during Ligue 1 matches as PSG ultras purposefully stayed silent throughout the game against Marseille – a decision criticised by club captain Marquinhos. There were over 20 banners unveiled by the ultras which were a direct attack on the club's hierarchy and playing staff.

Manager swap: Conte to PSG, Pochettino to Tottenham? (NBC Sports)

We've heard of player swaps but manager swaps? It appears that Antonio Conte to PSG and Mauricio Pochettino back to Tottenham is gathering steam.

Zinedine Zidane is a contender for the PSG and France jobs and it seems like he favors the latter, leaving the door open for Conte. He has already proven his class to turn things around over the last six months but if PSG offer him the chance to return to the Champions League and coach Messi, Neymar and other superstars, would he turn them down? Conte has just over a year left on the 18-month contract he signed to take charge of Tottenham and he hasn’t exactly been delighted with his first six months in charge.

Man Utd's Mauricio Pochettino snub: Dodged question, terrible ... (Mirror.co.uk)

In the space of a week Mauricio Pochettino has been overlooked for the Manchester United job and could now face the sack at PSG despite delivering the Ligue ...

It seemed a job befitting his stature at Tottenham and provided him with the resources to do what he couldn't in north London - prove he could cut it at the top without having to overachieve. Had United hired Pochettino and missed out in cup competitions next season the questions would've been asked - you knew he had a history of this. A Champions League collapse at Real Madrid was always going to prove defining and, despite delivering the Ligue 1 title, he is set to leave France with a win percentage of just 67 - a number dwarfed by Thomas Tuchel, Unai Emery and Laurent Blanc. Investment was made, albeit with little success, as Pochettino continued to field questions about his own role and the power - or lack of it - handed to him when it came to transfers and player contracts. The Argentine lost two finals, two semi-finals and fell short in two title races whilst in north London. He has seemingly failed to seize the moment, having been a shoo-in for the job in 2018. In January 2021, after 14 months out of the game, PSG came knocking and hired their former defender on an 18-month deal. That meant he was back on the market. Pochettino was the obvious and apparently only candidate with United filling the void on an interim basis. Both had clear similarities but United have opted for the Dutchman, leaving Pochettino to ponder his next move with a PSG divorce seemingly inevitable. The current boss vs the boss they appeared to want. When Mourinho was axed, Pochettino had Tottenham sat in third having won 13 of their 17 Premier League games.

Lionel Messi set to stay at PSG but Mauricio Pochettino future is ... (Sky Sports)

PSG are considering the futures of both head coach Mauricio Pochettino and sporting director Leonardo; Lionel Messi will be staying at the club.

Also on the market are said to be their other Argentine players Mauro Icardi and Leandro Paredes, while Angel Di Maria is also out of contract along with Mbappe. He remains committed to this cause but, with Mbappe out of contract at the end of the season and in talks with Real Madrid, while PSG are open to letting Neymar move on, the team is set to be rebuilt again this summer at the beginning of a new cycle, most probably under a new first-team boss, and in a way to get the most from Messi. Messi completed the trio on a free transfer from Barcelona last summer in the hope of challenging for the Champions League, although he understood it would be difficult to lift that trophy in his first season at the Parc des Princes, Sky Sports News has been told.
