A shame the youngster was denied by a block. Put the ball on a plate for Surridge a couple of times with some delightful balls across the face of goal. Work-rate throughout was phenomenal, he ran himself into the ground and looked to be struggling by the time he came off. Jack Colback: Alert to the possibility of causing the hosts a problem as he took a super-quick throw - and it paid off with a goal. The Reds came under plenty of pressure at times, but held his own and showed his usual composure on the ball. Ryan Yates: Dug in when the Cottagers tried to turn the screw. Switched to the left when Jack Colback departed. Threw himself at absolutely everything, including ensuring he was first to a corner, ahead of Mitrovic, in the first half. The Reds stopper thwarted Carvalho with a diving fingertip stop. With Bournemouth losing 2-0 to Swansea City at the time, it had the potential to be a crucial goal. Jack Colback tried his luck early on, while Sam Surridge couldn’t quite get to Brennan Johnson’s ball across the face a few minutes later. How Steve Cooper inspired Nottingham Forest to clinch a play-off ... (The Athletic)

Forest had made their worst start to a season for 108 years, now they are in the play-offs. How Steve Cooper has masterminded the turnaround.

“The way that the manager does it here is a perfect example of how to do it. That is it really: stick to the plan. You hear stories of how training used to be before he came in; about how we used to play and how things have changed — in just such a short amount of time,” says Cook. “Neil Warnock used to say that 90 per cent of being a manager is about man-management. “We do not fear anyone,” says defender Lowe. “There is no player I have come up against that has made me think, ‘I need to be on the back foot’. The gaffer wants us to be positive, on the front foot all over the pitch. “You rest at the end, not in the middle,” says Cooper. “I have said that to the players. It is a mindset that has seen them build promotion-winning form under Cooper in the Championship. Worrall has had to work on aspects of the role — including being more of a leader when other players are late for meetings or for training and need reminding of their responsibilities. “He might as well have a rotating door in his office because there are players in and out of there so often,” says Cook. “He is very approachable. It is the fact Cooper just seems to have an intrinsic grasp of this club and what it means to fans. But if it is you on the end of it, it is much less enjoyable. But it is more than just results that have earned the Welshman a place in the hearts of supporters. “You do have to take it in and recognise that not everywhere is like this.

Nottingham Forest have enjoyed a remarkable run under Steve Cooper, with the win at Fulham last night meaning automatic promotion is still a possibility.

The City Ground has been packed out recently, with the fact Forest are averaging just over 27,000 this season showing how the support are fully on board with what they’re seeing, with that figure only bettered by Sheffield United in the second tier. Now though, there is a real momentum with what Cooper is trying to achieve and the fan base are delighted with the football the team are playing. So, nobody can dispute the loyalty of the core support that have still gone to the City Ground even if most of the time they have had to see a struggling team that’s underachieved.
