Ronnie O'Sullivan built a 11-5 lead over Stephen Maguire while Yan Bingtao came back from 6-2 down to draw level with Mark Williams at 8-8.

Trump, world champion three years ago, took a 5-3 lead over Stuart Bingham, whose own memorable Crucible triumph came in 2015. On the other table the four-times champion Higgins also built a 5-3 advantage over Jack Lisowski, who was back in action following his dramatic 13-12 win over Neil Robertson late on Monday evening. It remained one-way traffic as O’Sullivan pushed on through clearances of 55 and 69 before a missed pink denied him a century in the 14th.

World Snooker Championship 2022 LIVE scores - Ronnie O'Sullivan ... (Eurosport.co.uk)

Ronnie O'Sullivan is up against Stephen Maguire and Yan Bingtao faces Mark Williams in the morning session while Judd Trump takes on Stuart Bingham and John ...

He meets Stephen Maguire - the qualifier Stephen Maguire! - and what a sign of strength in depth that is - in a match that looks extremely tasty. Ronnie, it must be said, is looking very strong and so is Mark J - but the best player in the first week is rarely the best player at the end of the second week, and Judd has plenty of room for improvement while Yan is so difficult to beat and Jack is in the form of his life. He's got a bit of angle but needs to play it at pace and can't force it down; surely this will now, at last, be the frame? Stephen then rockets in a tremendous starter - where's that been all morning - but it only gets him one before Ronnie extends his lead further but not conclusively in what's turning into yet another scrappy one. Ronnie is at the table potting balls, and there's a chance this match will be effectively done by the end of the session. He must make this count - 6-2 and the first two tonight and in he's in the match, 7-1 and he's absolutely diddled. This allows Ballrun to clip a red to right-middle, a helpful flick off the knuckle leaves him on the black, and this is a chance. Before he can get to the high-value colours he has to platy safe, and a decent riposte from Stephen sets him up for a fine opener next visit. Again, he misses a ball he shouldn't - a frame-ball pink to left corner - the frame is still alive, though the way the table is, it'll be something if Stephen can resolve it. The old man is at the table, leading 7-4 and looking good. Stephen worked so hard in the safety battle, but this is a game of fractions and he's not currently finding his common denominator. Stephen tries to pinch a bit of pocket on the pink ... can he see the next red, also frame-ball?

Ronnie O'Sullivan has taken snooker to a new level since turning professional in 1992, according to seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry.

"It is very tense in the two-table set-up, but when it goes to the one table you can relax a bit more," said O'Sullivan. "You get the venue to yourself. "It really wasn't great and I had to get that done," he said. "I think this venue is hard. Steve Davis did that, but he took it to another level." "He’s just supreme in all departments. We're not superstars when there are three of you.

Ronnie O'Sullivan only needs two frames to finish off Stephen Maguire (10:00 BST), while Mark Williams and Yan Bingtao (14:30) are locked at 8-8 heading into ...

The Rocket rockets in a long red to right corner off Stephen's break, follows it with a black, but runs out of position. Ronnie wobbles in a red to left corner that means the next pot will have to be a blue to the green pocket ... and he takes it off the set. It took longer than it might've done - the story of this match so far - but Bingham wins frame one to close the gap. He opts for a cut-back to left-middle but misses it, and Judd gets away with a diagonal glide to right corner. Judd's break clips the blue, but he gets away with it ... only to miss a long one to left corner and leave Stuart a selection. But getting straight on a red, he needs to force it with the rest because he needs to go down the table for a colour, unable to get on the black ... and he jawses it! Trying to coax a red along the top cushion, Judd jawses it, and Dominic notes that his problem isn't just one of confidence but of technique which of course feeds into confidence. Judd takes on a red to right corner and misses, attacking the balls with none of his usual conviction. He does, it doesn't work out, so he plays down the table and close to the baulk cushion. A third half-century in a row from Stuart gives him a sweep of the mini-sesh, and Judd needs to sort himself, quickly. That wasn't a great effort and he's not got away with it, but at some point Stuart will need to crack the pack, the frame likely decided by how that goes. All of a sudden he can't miss, and it's going to be a best of nine to decide who reaches the one table situation.

RONNIE O'SULLIVAN once infuriated chief Barry Hearn after he actively turned down the opportunity to hit a 147.

He said: “I was just having a bit of fun, you see. I don’t see why we have to take everything so seriously these days.” O’Sullivan, chasing a record-equalling seventh Crucible title in the modern era, will now face either Judd Trump or Stuart Bingham for a place in the final. Asked if he had deprived paying fans of seeing him make a 147, he said: “If you had told me before the game I was going to make a 146 and do that, they’d have probably bought a ticket on the back of that. “It was just a bit of fun, a bit of a laugh, I just hope everybody sees it in that way. The world No1 led 11-5 overnight, and completed final breaks of 71 and 126 to secure his place in the last four in just 19 minutes.
