Scott Twine netted four goals for the rampant visitors while defender Harry Darling also got on the scoresheet.
It is all action at the moment. He neatly controls the ball and then takes on Argyle defender James Wilson, finds a way past him with a bit of a ricochet and shoots into the far corner of the net. This time, the free-kick from Scott Twine hits the defensive wall. MK Dons had 48 per cent of the possession. Could it have gone any worse for Argyle in the first half? Games between the sides at Home Park down the years have been far from classics, with each of the three being settled by a single goal. Referee Craig Hicks will take charge of the game. But a wobble in April has seen them go four without a victory, drawing three and losing one against teams they are battling in the top six.

Joe Edwards for Garrick was the next Argyle change, as Cooper produced a trio of fine saves to briefly delay further pain. The Greens were hit by another massive blow three minutes later, as Darling headed home from a routine corner. The Dons responded with swift break from David Kasumu and it needed a brave block from Mike Cooper, diving at his feet to blunt the threat. Moments later, Kaine Kesley-Hayden shaved the side-netting in a terrific spell for the visitors. There have been far more highs than lows and, through it all, the Green Army has been magnificent. Law repeated the delivery delight with another wonderful pass across goal for Jephcott, who again flicked it just past the post.
Milton Keynes Dons have had an excellent season in League One and they could end it in style by sneaking into the top two on the final day.
“We still play with a box in midfield and I am one of the two midfielders in front of the defence. I like dictating the play, being in a ball-playing team. “It’s his first senior managerial role in England and he’s gone from strength to strength. We have a bit less possession, but I’m really enjoying it. But Liam has come in and done an unbelievable job. The lads are in good spirits.
Milton Keynes Dons have finished the 2021/22 League One regular season in third place, confirming their position in the playoffs.
Since taking charge, the Dons have become one of the most attractive teams in the third tier and gave themselves a chance at automatic promotion on the final day of the season - even with Rotherham and Wigan having had games in hand that could have secured their fates even earlier. The Dons ran out as 5-0 winners away at Plymouth Argyle on the final day of the regular season, but Rotherham United also claimed three points in their 2-0 victory over Gillingham and edged out Liam Manning's side by just one point. Twine increased the Dons' lead in the 41st minute with a thumping strike past Argyle keeper Michael Cooper after cutting in from the left of the area. Twine opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a superbly-flighted direct free-kick from just outside the penalty area, not long after his 25-yard free-kick came back off the face of the bar.
Scott Twine scored four goals for MK Dons as they won 5-0 against the Pilgrims, who had Jordan Houghton sent-off.
It's an absolute must-read, and you can sign up for that here (it must be done on desktop not mobile, though). Twine stepped up to take the set piece again but this time his attempt hit the Argyle defensive wall. The lethal MK Dons attacker crashed a shot past the despairing dive of Cooper and the ball ended up in the net off the inside of the right post. Hayden had a shot saved by Cooper after a weaving run into the Argyle box before Twine grabbed his fourth goal of the game in the 77th minute. Edwards was sent on as a 65th minute substitute for Garrick as Schumacher tried to stem the wave of MK Dons attacks and prevent further goals. First, Twine scored his second goal of the game in the 40th minute, cutting in from the left flank, finding a way past Wilson with the aid of a ricochet and then firing past Cooper in the far corner of the net. They then fell 4-0 behind in the 60th minute when Twine completed his hat-trick with a clinical finish from the centre of the goalmouth after a cut-back by Kasumu. Then, to complete what had been a truly miserable first half for the Pilgrims, Houghton was sent-off for a second bookable offence in a matter of minutes. Wilson was booked in the 32nd minute for a foul on MK Dons striker Troy Parrott which resulted in a free-kick 25 yards out for the visitors. Argyle threatened for the first time when Garrick got into the box and cut the ball back to Jephcott, who, under pressure from a MK Dons defender, sent his shot narrowly wide of Jamie Cumming’s left post. Defender Harry Darling was also on target for MK Dons when he made it 3-0 in the 43rd minute and worse was to follow for Argyle before half-time when midfielder Jordan Houighton was sent-off for a second bookable offence against his former club. Grant had picked up a thigh strain in the closing stages of the training session on Friday and had to sit out the vital fixture.
Argyle manager Steven Schumacher admitted he was “devastated” by missing out on the Sky Bet League One play-offs with defeat to Milton Keynes Dons, ...
“At the start of the week, I asked them [the supporters] to stay behind the team because it was going to be hard day - it was a difficult day and we needed them. They fell to the player who you would want it to fall to but they haven’t hit the target both times and it's probably the difference in the game.” During the second half, the Devonport End even broke out in a chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’ for their manager. Schumacher said: “Devastated. It’s not the way we wanted today to go. “It is fine margins and at the top end of the division when the games are tight, you've got to take those opportunities that you create. Playing MK Dons one man down is probably the worst team you want to play.
The wife of the Argyle chairman has tweeted about fans leaving Home Park early during the crushing 5-0 defeat to MK Dons which ended the team's play-off ...
Argyle till I die and I think the boy is following after his first season." Rich Weir replied: "Over the years I've spent tens of thousands following Argyle home and away, and I’m on an average wage! "That being said we appreciate everything the Halletts have done and we’re in the right direction, that was a poor comment at an emotionally charged time. They’ve cared enough to pay the entrance fee and that’s the end of the facts." I can leave whenever I leave, and especially if we are getting battered, I can leave." Jane Hallett took to Twitter as the 10-man Pilgrims slumped to a loss which saw their season come to an end.
The Pilgrims finished seventh in League One after being thrashed 5-0 by MK Dons at Home Park in their final fixture.
Schumacher said: "Seventy-three, 74 points is usually nailed on to be in the play-offs. "That just shows the strength of League One this year. We have got to take it on the chin and move on." "For me, that killed the game as a contest. I haven't seen the replay, but he (Houghton) had just been booked and I just thought the referee didn't necessarily need to give another yellow card straight away. Schumacher said: "Gutted not to be able to make the play-offs.
Several of the Pilgrims' squad posted messages on Twitter after the season-ending 5-0 defeat by MK Dons.
Thanks for the support #GreenArmy." Green Army thank you for your unbelievable support this season." Not the ending we all dreamed of, nonetheless couldn’t be prouder of the journey we’ve all been on this season! We will learn lessons from this season and we will be back next season stronger." Jephcott tweeted: "Not how we wanted to end the season and personally not good enough from me today. Burton tweeted: "The worst way imaginable to end what has been an unforgettable season.

Their team had not conceded at home for 11 hours of football before today — they can not even make it to 15 minutes into the second half without doing so before Twine thumps in his hat-trick goal to make it 4-0. All afternoon it seems that Wimbledon, effectively already relegated, cannot decide if they want to stay up after going 3-0 down at home to Accrington Stanley before staging a fightback and scoring twice, then letting their opponents back into the game before pulling back one more. Harris laments that when he arrived at Gillingham to replace Steve Evans in January, there was not even a tactics board for him to use. But as time ticks on, it feels like Harris and his team would have preferred this to be the year they lost instead. One thing is clear, the game plan has gone out of the window at Home Park as Plymouth fans return to their seats knowing it will take a miracle now. It sends Paul Warne’s side back above MK Dons in the table but their lead is fragile, with Gillingham facing relegation and using long throws and set pieces to cause panic at the back. At the other end of the ground, things are still looking hopeful for the travelling fans from Milton Keynes, with their team winning comfortably and, in the other fixture they are watching closely, Rotherham’s crossbar getting rattled by Gillingham’s Ben Thompson. Just above them on goal difference, Fleetwood are away at Bolton Wanderers and need to match or better Gillingham’s result, while the same is true of Wycombe, away at Burton Albion, if they are to sneak into the play-offs ahead of Plymouth. At Hillsborough, George Hirst completes his hero to villain arc as he opens the scoring for Portsmouth with the first goal of the day’s games that matter. Any two of Wigan Athletic, Rotherham United and MK Dons can go up automatically, although a hefty goal difference advantage and three-point buffer over MK Dons mean the day should just be a formality for Leam Richardson’s Wigan. Gillingham, hosting Rotherham, who need to match or better whatever MK Dons do in Plymouth, need points otherwise they will be relegated. In reality, things look bleak for Wimbledon, who need a freak set of results to avoid joining doomed duo Doncaster Rovers and Crewe Alexandra in League Two next season.
