Dominant Brighton dent Wolves' European hopes with comfortable win (The Independent)

The changes did little to improve Wolves and they reached the hour without having a shot on target with Brighton increasingly comfortable, although the Seagulls needed a second to really secure the game. They were second best from the start and Enock Mwepu drew a fine save from Jose Sa to set the tone. Dominant Brighton strolled to victory at Wolves to set a new club record and deliver a hammer blow to the hosts’ European hopes. The listless hosts never threatened and face a battle to return to Europe with three of their final four games against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Mac Allister, Trossard and Bissouma on target in Brighton's win at ... (The Guardian)

Alexis Mac Allister, Leandro Trossard and Yves Bissouma scored Brighton's goals in their 3-0 victory over Wolves at Molineux.

The home fans started singing his name with 39 seconds on the clock but his return did not go to plan. Bruno Lage had urged his Wolves players to seize the moment, comparing their run in to the 100m sprint but his side look set to splutter over the line and miss out on Europe after slipping to a third successive defeat. Wolves have a game in hand on United but with trips to Chelsea and Liverpool to come either side of home matches against Manchester City and Norwich, the home straight threatens to be relatively fruitless.

Neto did put a cross in for the head of Boly, but the defender got too much on his effort and it sailed over for a goal kick. Wolves should have at least found a route back into the game with five remaining, when Neto’s shot fell for Boly, but the defender couldn’t find the right connection, as Sanchez produced a comfortable catch. At the break, Lage had introduced Pedro Neto and Raul Jimenez, and it wasn’t long after when Nelson Semedo went to ground holding his hamstring, forcing Jonny on, meaning Wolves had a much different look to get back into the game. Wolves had spent much of April on the road, but back on home soil, they could have fell behind in the opening stages. Then Silva played in Hwang down the left and he picked out Joao Moutinho, but the veteran’s strike was blocked behind. Alexis Mac Allister had already struck the woodwork from the spot, before Wolves gifted him a second opportunity he duly took.

Wolves 0 Brighton 3 - Report (expressandstar.com)

Boos rang around Molineux as Wolves fell to their third consecutive defeat with an embarrassing 3-0 loss against mid-table Brighton.

Jimenez gave the ball away in the Brighton half and the visitors broke forward. Despite that, Brighton had the first chance of the half and it was all of Wolves’ own doing. The Wolves fans were furious. This time Mac Allister stepped up and finished beyond Sa, going the same side as his first penalty but lofting it high into the net. Trossard picked the ball up on the right of the box, cut inside Saiss and finished into the far bottom corner. First, a coming together left Conor Coady on the floor and Trossard broke forward, but his poor pass was collected by Jose Sa with options available in the box. Wolves’ first chance came from a well worked move that saw Fabio Silva release Hwang Hee-chan down the left. The hosts earned back-to-back corners following that chance but could not make it count. Boos rang around Molineux as Lage stood motionless on the touchline. A simple counter-attack then opened them up as Leandro Trossard finished from inside the box. The formation relies heavily on wing-backs Nelson Semedo and Ait-Nouri finding space out wide but their team-mates could not find them. March was sticking to Ait-Nouri like glue and not allowing him to get forward, while Trossard was not tracking back as much meaning Semedo had more space – but Wolves could not find him.
