Ms Sturgeon went on to call for the UK Government to “get money into the pockets” of people who are struggling. “I mean, talk about out of touch and out of ideas and out of excuses.” He told ITV’s Peston that the Government would do “everything we can” to help people through the cost-of-living crisis , which he called a “very difficult reality”, but said there was “only so far we can go”. “And on the other hand, I think somebody who claims £196,000 in expenses in a single year is in no position to tell other people to get cheaper biscuits.” Martin Lewis, founder of the website, labelled Mr Eustice’s advice “patronising” and said it was “bull****” to suggest people on low incomes did not already utilise value brands. Martin Lewis issues 5 holiday warnings over passports and bookings (Nottinghamshire Live)

Martin had five tricks to help holidaymakers save money on their travels amid passport and airport chaos.

Compare airport parking prices and make sure to book as far in advance as you can. You would need to add in the cancellation into the new price. This will help you to avoid paying the most expensive on-the-day charges. Ryanair does not follow this rule, as it always sits groups separately and on a "random" basis unless you pay for seats. Other countries such as the United States and Australia require you to have at least six months left on your passport. Keeping an eye on hotel prices will help you to bag a better deal.

The MoneySavingExpert founder has shared his top tips - including on not getting stung by airport parking.

Many other countries - including the United States and Australia - require you to have at least six months left on your passport. Keep an eye on hotel prices to see if you can get a better deal. Martin warned how a family of four could pay up to £240 extra to guarantee they sit together on return flights. Since the Brexit transition was completed, British travellers can no longer visit the EU on a passport that's about to expire. If the price of your hotel has dropped, and you have free cancellation with your booking, then you can simply rebook for less. Under Schengen area rules, your passport must be less than 10 years old on the day you enter, and valid for at least three months after the day you plan to leave.

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis reveals what to do if your energy ... (MyLondon)

Energy bills are rising as interest rates are at a record high, but according to Lewis, some energy companies are hiking prices by more than they should. He ...

The correct new amount should be around £150 but, if you were willing, a new amount of £170 is an acceptable increase, according to Martin. He emphasised that it is not a negotiation of price because the energy companies have a legal requirement to give a "fair" price. If the new figure is a little more than that amount, accept that it is fair. To put it simply, he said there is "no justification" for doubling a Direct Debit if you are on a price cap, standard variable tariff, have not switched or come off a fix. If you do not believe the rates are fair after the company has had an opportunity to explain, you should ask them to drop the price. - You were always on the price cap, standard variable tariff and never switched but you are in energy debt. The price cap is determined according to unit rates and therefore, Martin said Brits can expect a range of 40-65 per cent increase. He said he was "very concerned" that some companies are raising rates by more than 54 per cent. He spoke about customers who are specifically paying their energy bills via Direct Debit on a price cap, who are in credit. If you pay via Direct Debit and your rates have increased by substantially more than 54 per cent, the Money Saving Expert spoke about what you should do. Then, energy users should put in a formal complaint with the energy ombudsman. He also said that some companies have increased rates more than 54 per cent in line with the price cap.

"Prices are likely to rise faster than income for many people. Those who are on a standard variable rate (SVR) mortgage are likely to see their repayments hiked as well, but it is down to your mortgage provider to decide whether to pass on the increase to its customers. In a warning to borrowers today, Martin explained how variable mortgage costs will increase by £12 a month per £100,000 mortgage. How soon you could see your payments increase does vary between lenders, so check the small print of your deal to see when the rise is expected to hit you. The base rate is used by banks to determine how much they charge you when you borrow money, as well as how much return you get back on your savings.
