Walt Disney is reporting that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has earned $27.2 million in its initial overseas debut (along with around $12 ...
That’s the “big question,” sans whatever it might have earned in China (over/under $125 million seems about right) in conventional times, and arguably the difference between a $145 million domestic launch and a $180 million debut. Oh, and it earned $8.8 million on Thursday in Korea, giving it a $14.5 million two-day cume and bumping that overall cume to around $48.2 million. With solid reviews, decent buzz and the usual prestige/anticipation granted to an MCU summer opener going way back to Iron Man in 2008, the Benedict Cumberbatch/Elizabeth Olsen/Xochitl Gomez sci-fi horror fantasy looks set for a domestic debut somewhere between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 ($146 million) and The Last Jedi ($220 million). However, even a jump from Winter Soldier ($95 million) to Civil War ($179 million) would “only” be $165 million. Walt Disney is reporting that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has earned $27.2 million in its initial overseas debut. Of course, if Universal’s Jurassic World: Dominion (which has been cleared for release) doesn’t get anywhere near the $225-$265 million grosses of its predecessors and Avatar: The Way of Water doesn’t soar to infinity and beyond (Avatar earned $205 million in 2010 and a reissue brought in another $55 million in 2021), then it may become irrelevant as to whether Hollywood films play in China anyway. It scored the second-biggest opening day ever in Malaysia behind Avengers: Endgame and scored the biggest Covid-era opening days in several territories (Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore) while scoring the biggest opening day since The Rise of Skywalker in Belgium. It’ll essentially be opening worldwide, save for China, Russia, Ukraine and parts of the Middle East over this week.
Every cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness explained · Benedict Cumberbatch plays multiple Doctor Strange variants in Multiverse of Madness.
In this brief cameo, Clea tells Doctor Strange they need to fix the “incursion” he caused. Sir Patrick Stewart’s X-Men leader and mutant civil rights activist Charles Xavier was one of the most rumored cameos in the Doctor Strange sequel. Doctor Strange and Christine Palmer achieved closure and agreed that remaining friends is the best route for them, but Strange may finally get his chance at happiness with a new romantic interest. In the first Doctor Strange installment, Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) was at odds with Doctor Strange and eventually became a villain. This variant of Captain Marvel is played by Lashana Lynch, who played Carol Danvers’ best friend Maria Rambeau in the Captain Marvel movie. In Doctor Strange 2 Krasinski is part of the Illuminati, but it’s unclear if he’ll play the role again in the upcoming Fantastic Four film, since things don’t end well for him here. The ancient demon Shuma-Gorath was prominent in the Doctor Strange 2 trailers. That warmth doesn’t last for long, and Mordo holds Doctor Strange and America hostage at the Illuminati's headquarters. The first Doctor Strange variant we meet is Defender Strange, who rounds up a rotating gang of “individualistic” superheroes known as the Defenders to battle threats. This Christine Palmer is a redhead, and she’s an expert on the multiverse who knows how MCU magic and artifacts work. Scarlet Witch, possessed by The Darkhold introduced in WandaVision, goes on a bloody warpath to tap into America’s powers and find a multiverse where she lives happily with her sons, Billy and Tommy Maximoff. Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Wong (Benedict Wong) find themselves harboring MCU newcomer America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), a mysterious teenager with the uncontrollable power to travel through the multiverse who’s on the run from a grieving Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and her demonic minions.
First, and perhaps most obviously, there is the so-called Sinister Strange that our regular Doctor Strange meets in an alternate universe earlier in the movie, ...
But for the purposes of the Multiverse of Madness, all you really need to know is that, in WandaVision, Wanda created them, using her magic, as part of a mass delusion she perpetrated as a way to escape her grief over Vision’s death. But her first appearance in the Marvel comics was back in 2011, when she appeared as a member of superhero troupe the Teen Brigade in a limited comic book series. It’s OK if you don’t know America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) already—she is, indeed, from the comics, and this is her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. America is the star of her own series of comics, appropriately called America, which started in 2017. In the first movie, the ability to manipulate time plays a major role in the defeat of the dread Dormammu (and later is awfully helpful in taking down Thanos). In the second, it’s mostly just a token of their multiverse-spanning affection, and an opportunity for a luxury timepiece company to get a few seconds of screen time. Either way, the movie reminds us that there are an infinite number of Wandas scattered throughout the multiverse, some of whom probably aren’t even homicidal maniacs, which gives Marvel license to bring her back whenever it wants. There’s speculation that the introduction of younger heroes like America, Hawkeye’s Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), and the forthcoming Ms. Marvel’s Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) into the MCU will lead to the on-screen debut of the Young Avengers. That would be a great reason to keep America around: She’s a hero whose true powers only really become apparent toward the end of the movie, after all. Before that it made several appearances in the Marvel TV series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Still, yeah, it’s basically the Necronomicon. Finally, the third eye also evokes the Eye of Agamotto, the magical pendant Strange wears around his neck, which, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, once contained the Time Stone. In the comics, the Eye of Agamotto is a little different: Instead of holding the Time Stone, it gives Strange a sort of third sight, allowing him to see into the true nature of things—and when he uses it, a third eye appears on his forehead. Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell). Last seen in the animated What If … ? Peggy Carter’s super-soldiered alter ego makes her live-action debut here, with her own Union Jacked-up version of Captain America’s shield and a frickin’ jet pack. The Earth with the Illuminati, etc. In other words, there are a few possibilities of what the eye could mean, but together they suggest that Strange’s experiments with necromancy might have some lingering side effects. Naturally he turns up here as well, in the pivotal role of Pizza Poppa.

That aspect of America's character is from the comics, so we always want to adapt them as well and as truthfully as we can." In an accident, Stephen Strange, a famous brain surgeon, loses the ability to use his hands. Having been first introduced in 2011, she is Marvel's first Latin-American LGBTQ+ character and Marvel has also confirmed that she will still have an LGBTQ+ connection seen in the comics in live action. At the end of the movie the spell appeared to have worked, but it's been heavily hinted that Doctor Strange's actions in Spider-Man could have huge consequences in the Multiverse of Madness. In that film, Dr. Strange cast a spell that caused everyone to forget the existence of Peter Parker in an attempt to stop the multiverse from exploding. The Multiverse of Madness is set a few months after Spider-Man: No Way Home and sometime after the first season of the Loki series.
LIBBY PURVES: Benedict Cumberbatch as sorcerer Dr Stephen Strange, trespasser in multiple universes. He has a suavely deadpan like a camel with a secret ...
There's drag, nudity and the Norwegian Pillow Dance. They have toured as far as Leningrad and keep their young students on their toes. A handsome Aryan boy sings Tomorrow Belongs To Me, the mood moving from pastoral peace to horror as the camera shows the swastika on his arm and faces in the crowd enchanted or alarmed. Patrick Stewart has a cameo on a sort of weird yellow mobility vehicle, and newcomer Gomez (from The Baby-Sitters Club on Netflix) is a sweetie. But they are into everything, from commedia dell'arte to mime, eccentric dance and David Bowie. Barry was in Oh! What A Lovely War and Laurence Olivier advised him on acting ('Just check your flies and go on'). It is still the most gut-wrenching evocation of the populist power of fascism. Based on a stage musical (with music by Kander and Ebb) which, in turn, echoed Christopher Isherwood's semi-autobiographical novel Goodbye To Berlin, the film is decadently gorgeous and musically unforgettable. Cabaret is in cinemas from today. The landscapes are fabulous, especially Multiverse 838 where New York is covered in blossoming trees and the pizzas are spherical. One old man, maybe Jewish, lowers his head in dark awareness of what is to come. As this ripping yarn opens, he leaps around giant nightmare pipework in space, battles fireballs, vaporises someone and puts his tie on by magic to attend a socialite New York wedding. It may be partly Strange's fault about the parallel universes, because he breached natural laws in the 2021 film doing a favour for Spider-Man. Dr Strange is a Marvel ripping yarn...
How the "Doctor Strange" sequel brings some important elements of the comics into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
None of this explains, however, how the Eye of Agamotto is around 616 Strange’s neck years after Thanos crushed it in “Avengers: Infinity War.” Is there, like, a magical item repair shop in Greenwich Village? Maybe Etsy to the rescue? The other Kamar-Taj wizard of note is Sara, played by Sheila Atim (who appeared notably in Halle Berry’s directorial debut, “ Bruised”). Considering the moment she gets onscreen with Wong, this may be Sara Wolfe, Wong’s love interest in the comics. But worry not; he seems cool with being a triclops when he returns mid-credits, implying this third eye is more like the comics version — simply a gateway to greater perception with a few extra abilities thrown in for kicks. In the comics, however, she’s of Cheyenne descent and not a wizard, but Strange’s secretary. It may or may not pop up in the MCU’s “Fantastic” movie currently in development; either way, the Baxter Building serves as the Fantastic Four’s headquarters. Why is it in the movie? No. This isn’t in the comics. Much of “Multiverse of Madness,” as again mentioned by Dr. Palmer, takes place on Earth-838. As my 14-year-old son said before watching the film, “The Illuminati are incompetent fools. If you’re looking for less spoiler-y “Strange” stories, check out our review and report from the world premiere on the movie’s connections to “WandaVision.” Here’s a handy-dandy A-Z (or A-W) guide to the most important and their comics origins. That’s about it, comparison-wise, but that’s a pretty big “It.”
Here's everything you need to know about Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness and it's post-credits scenes.
The one-two punch of a more serious/important mid-credits scene and a more lighthearted/throwaway post-credits scene has been the pattern for Marvel films lately. You might also be wondering if these scenes are worth sticking around for or if you should make a run for the bathrooms. Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness is sure to set some of its own records.
On paper, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a formulaic Marvel Studios superhero romp. Its plot beats read like sticky notes slapped onto an ...
When the film opens, Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) emerges as the de facto post- Endgame superhero, poised to lap up the public adulation that Iron Man and OG Captain America can no longer claim. It's an unfortunate casualty to pave the way for a fun, dark, and generally enjoyable twist to usual Marvel Studios fare—and that's ironic in a film whose characters, at one point, are asked whether to sacrifice a single person to save the universe. That strife turns the world upside down, and in resolving that change, the hero mends something in themselves to ultimately save the day, all while finding equal parts comedy and heart when the film's world gets weird.
Yes, and here's everything you need to know if you haven't kept up with your Marvel Studios studies.
(Spoilers ahead—not for Doctor Strange 2, but for the other movies and shows that factor into it.) It's not just that director Sam Raimi's new movie is a richer experience with a few bonus reference points—it's that the film is probably inscrutable without them. But can you really get the full effect of Avengers: Endgame without seeing most of the 22 movies that came before?
Marvel's much-anticipated second Doctor Strange movie dropped in cinemas on Thursday (May 5th) and fans are reacting with memes on Twitter.
Benedict Cumberbatch is returning to star in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – the second solo Doctor Strange movie in the MCU.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is finally out in theatres and fans are shaken by all the cameos in the film. Here's who the purple lady is!
Dr Strange 2 is one of Marvel’s first movies to explore the newly-instated multiverse. They part ways soon after, but because their souls were bound to each other, the divorce took a heavy toll on both of them. Here’s who the Purple Lady is from the mid-credit scene.
If you've seen the trailer you already know it. It's the moment where Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) approaches Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and says, ...
This is the point, of course, and it definitely makes Madness fun in a way that, say, Eternals wasn’t. But it can have a bit of a kitchen-sink feeling. As WIRED pointed out last year, WandaVision kicked open the door to multiple realities in a way that meant not only could one Doctor Strange movie have multiple Doctor Stranges but also the Wanda from WandaVision (Elizabeth Olsen) could try to skip to a timeline where she joins children she never birthed in the main MCU timeline and also pass through one with a very prominent X-Man, who comes from a universe where Magneto is maybe her father. But that’s not the only way Multiverse of Madness feels like fanfic. (Whew!) A lot of this, like Strange’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, is the result of Disney now owning more of Marvel’s toys than it did two decades ago, having acquired Fox (previous parent of the Fantastic Four and the X-Men) in 2019 and cutting a deal to have Sony’s Spidey movies align with the larger Marvel movie world. One scene in Marvel’s latest offering, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, will surely dominate the conversation about the movie for weeks. It’s the kind of moment either meant to set up 100 more films and shows or to remind you just how much intellectual property Disney owns.
And while reviews overall are positive, and audience scores are high, Doctor Strange 2 is not reviewing well for an MCU movie, in the overall context of ...
It's possible this could still go up or down with more reviews coming in. Again, there is only one true “big” miss in the MCU, Eternals with its rotten score (I am an Eternals apologist, and think it’s better than at least the bottom third of the list). The Doctor Strange scores are a bit of a surprise, however, given that the trailers looked impressive. - Iron Man – 94%

Continuing to release conversions like Doctor Strange 2’s exemplary work is one of the keys to that potential success, and this movie should inspire further faith in fans willing to pay for a third-dimensional thrill ride. For the last time in this 3D review, I’ll say it clearly and bluntly: this film is not in the wrong hands. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness doesn’t waste any time getting started, and the 3D presentation keeps pace with that sort of energy. With great 3D powers comes great 3D responsibility, as the image you’re being shown has to be manipulated to a certain degree to get that third-dimensional punch. No matter where Doctor Strange 2 hangs its hat, the depth drawn in its image is present to enlarge the world on screen. The care and love is back in MCU 3D, and Multiverse of Madness has a lot to show off to anyone who wants to take the trip. From America Chavez’s opening sprint with an alternate Strange to obtain the Book of Vishanti, third-dimensional thrills are already in play, hitting every aspect you’d want in a 3D movie. As if that wasn’t enough pressure on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ 3D conversion to deliver, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige made the following comments about the matter at the premiere’s red carpet: That definitely sounds like history repeating itself, as that same scenario of concern/reaction came up in my 3D review for Doctor Strange. So is Doctor Strange 2 worth that sort of hype? After all of the hype and waiting that’s led us to the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, it’s finally time to step back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s big screen component. Putting aside the business practice of regularly releasing comic films in 3D for a profit boost, the visuals on display in the trailers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness definitely suggest a potentially eye-popping time at the movies. If you’re looking for spoiler-free commentary on how director Sam Raimi’s return to the world of comic adaptations fares as a movie experience, you can find that in our own Eric Eisenberg’s official review.
On Thursday, Zara Marke entered the witness box to give evidence in her own defence on day eight of her sex abuse trial at Nottingham Crown Court.
The court an intimate tattoo of Zara was visible at times – which she earlier told police meant 'Victor' in Chinese calligraphy. Has she (the alleged victim) had enough? 'And, it is the prosecution's case, that Zara Marke was part of that process and Zara Marke acted, as is alleged, with Victor Marke.' I am not a paedophile, or a rapist. 'She has lied to me all the time I have known her. Zara said: 'It was a massive stepping stone.

Doctor Strange crosses paths with notable characters from the MCU, as well as the comics including Clea, Professor X, Captain Marvel, and more.
The sorceress from the Dark Dimension has played a significant role in the Doctor Strange comics since her debut in 1964. She is a newlywed in the 616 who questions whether Strange is really happy. The former surgeon’s extra eye could mean that he has found a way to possess the Eye of Agamotto, a powerful relic he is seen wearing in the film that helps its wearer see through disguises or illusions and create portals to other dimensions. Rachel McAdams plays two versions of the character who Stephen pines away for in every universe. The madness continues in the Doctor Strange sequel. A powerful group of superheroes who band together to help secretly protect Earth. This United Nations of superbeings shows up in the parallel universe known as the 838, which, in the comics, is the reality in which Loki steals the powers of Santa Claus. In this movie, Doctor Strange created the group. He’s not all bad though; the undead Strange teams up with America to defeat the Scarlet Witch. Zombie Strange lost his life earlier in the film when he attempted to kill America for her powers. There are three other Doctor Stranges that pop up in the movie. Professor X is leader of the Illuminati and the only one who believes this Doctor Strange has the ability to change. He encourages her to trust her own abilities and it’s America who ends up defeating the Scarlet Witch and saving the day. In his darkest timeline travels, Strange crosses paths with familiar faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as the comics.
Patrick Stewart discusses returning to his 'X-Men' role of Charles Xavier for Marvel Studios' 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.'
And when I first saw the monster that I was going to be driving in this one, I was dismayed. That was my only concern, was that I would somehow get out of control and go all the way down the stairs in this thing! I was unfamiliar, and in fact, a lot of what I saw on Monday night, I had to work hard to connect these things together. And even when I was a kid, I used to read books instead of comics. And just like “Picard,” I was grateful for it, because I could think refreshingly about who he was and how he related to others. What was it like for you to revisit Professor X?

Meanwhile, Marvel executives have speculated that for the blue-ray release the scene might be replaced with Dr Strange meeting a UK prime minister who looks like a vagrant attending court in a borrowed suit. Even comic books have to keep elements of their storytelling based in reality.” Marvel fans who have been to see Dr Strange in the Multiverse of madness have given mixed reviews to a scene in which the titular character briefly visits a universe where the UK government isn’t chockfull of twats.

And bringing Bruce Campbell into the mix as a fun little cameo is pretty clever. You’ll note that this movie is much darker than most MCU films and includes lots of fun little horror elements. This is the more important of the two. It’s all very funny, but it’s more funny if you know that the vendor is played by none other than Bruce Campbell. She tells our superhero wizard that he’s created an ‘Incursion’ (when two different universes collide, potentially destroying one or both in the process) and that he needs to come and help. As I noted previously, there’s a mid-credits and a post-credits scene in Doctor Strange 2.

This “Dr. Strange” epic is one of the best examples yet of how the empire Kevin Feige created manages to keep succeeding over and over and over again. This also means that like it or hate it — the Marvel Cinematic Universe remains the force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. The pre-sales for tickets this weekend were massive; estimates suggest the film alone could bring in $150-$200 million domestically over opening weekend. This is a brand people now trust to entertain them no matter who the film stars, what characters it features, or what genre it actually is. Parents should be warned — this is the scariest and bloodiest Marvel film to date. But the show must go on — and quickly — to avoid what could easily have been a 3.5-hour runtime. Also unfortunately, and unlike the team theme of “The Avengers” films, this is more an intersection of several storylines than a cooperative effort.
'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' is here, and it's ending may surprise you. But what does it mean for a potential 'Doctor Strange 3'?
It’s also worth noting that while Doctor Strange does sometimes sport a third eye in the comics, that one comes from the Eye of Agamotto and is a special ability exclusively affiliated with the powers of good. This Strange variant is corrupted by the Darkhold (an evil book of spells last seen in WandaVision) and sports a spooky third eye in the center of his forehead to prove it. By the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, both Stephen Strange and his co-star Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) manage to achieve some sort of closure.
The surprise introduction of a major star in 'Doctor Strange 2' has surprising implications the future of Marvel Studios.
Strange and Clea don’t have much history with Kang in the comics per se, but since the Disney+ series “Loki” established that Kang has designs to subjugate all of the multiverse, there’s a decent chance that Strange and Clea’s mission to prevent a multiversal incursion could lead them to pop up in the third “Ant-Man” movie. It almost seems like, by casting an actor too big and busy to turn over her career wholesale to the MCU, Marvel is signaling (intentionally or not) that the era of massive team-up films is over. It’s no surprise that Disney and Marvel are radio silent on their plans for Theron and Clea. But at the very least, we can reasonably expect Cumberbatch and Theron to headline the third “Doctor Strange” movie — and likely much sooner than the six year gap between the first and second films. Then she uses an energy blade to cut into the fabric of reality, exposing the Dark Dimension — as introduced in the first “Doctor Strange” movie. Jonathan Majors is set to appear in 2023’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” as Kang the Conqueror — a Marvel comics Big Bad on par with Thanos in terms of universe-threatening ambition. In the post-credits scene of “Multiverse of Madness” — or, technically, the mid-credits scene — we see Strange walking down a Manhattan street when suddenly, a white haired, purple-costumed Theron calls out his name.

It also could mean that the integration or a reboot of previously non-MCU superhero teams like the X-Men and Fantastic 4 is imminent, particularly after cameos from Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski). (A MCU “Fantastic Four” is officially in development, although it recently lost “Spider-Man” director Jon Watts.) Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Clea was introduced in “Strange Tales #126" (1964). She spent her early years as a captive of Dormammu and his sister Umar, her mother. Before Theron was revealed in the role, there had been fan speculation that either “Harry Potter” alum Emma Watson or “Strange” co-star Rachel McAdams (who plays Dr. Christine Palmer in the film) would take on the iconic part. For less spoiler-y “Strange” content check out our review and a report from the world premiere on the movie’s connections to “WandaVision.” As established earlier in the film, an incursion is a breach in reality in which parallel universes collide. The scene features the good doctor (Benedict Cumberbatch) walking down a New York City street before a disembodied voice calls out his name.
In “Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” the Scarlet Witch is a villain driven not by a quest for power, but by grief.
There is no adventure I would trade them for; there is no place I would rather have seen.” But that sort of rapture doesn’t come without cost: Levy also describes herself as “a wounded witch, wailing in the forest, undone.” By the end of “WandaVision,” Wanda — unlike most parents — has to give up the sorcery that produced her family. These days, mothers who express frustration about a lack of help at home or an inability to pursue their ambitions outside the home get plenty of encouragement to vent. When Wanda does reach another version of her sons, she finds them more enchanting than any of the marvels she’s encountered in the multiverse. Watching Wanda go from concave to convex over the course of a television episode is trippy. She enchants an entire town to match her memories of classic family sitcoms, then cooks up a rapidly progressing pregnancy that results in a set of twin boys.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness brings back the original cast, debuts new heroes, and even cameos some shock characters.
The final universe Doctor Strange travels to brings him to a desolate world. The tentacled titan makes his MCU debut in one of Doctor Strange 2's beginning battles. This alternate Strange is killed by the monster but is able to help Chavez escape before his final breath. Beyond that, dreamwalking to defeat Thanos set an Incursion in motion, colliding two worlds and resulting in the death of trillions. As seen in the trailers, this version of Mordo sports dreadlocks and is his universe's Sorcerer Supreme. West is present at Christine Palmer's wedding, revealing the torment he went through during the Blip and taunting the MCU's Stephen Strange for his failure to marry Christine. Doctor Strange is roped into another unexpected conflict when America Chavez rolls into his universe and the Scarlet Witch begins to threaten the fabric of reality. Master Mordo is also a member of the Illuminati, an assembly of Earth-838's best and brightest. While his travels across the Multiverse do not come without consequences, the MCU's Strange ultimately makes it out of Multiverse of Madness relatively unscathed. With a concept like the Multiverse as the vehicle for Doctor Strange 2's story, fans were treated to alternate versions of numerous Marvel heroes. Xochitl Gomez's America Chavez is hunted down by the Scarlet Witch throughout the 126 minutes of the movie, as the wicked sorceress seeks out her Multiversal powers. While an Avengers movie is currently absent from Marvel Studios' Phase 4 slate, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness carried fans over with its colossal crossovers.
Charlize Theron appears as Clea Strange in a Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness mid-credits scene. We explain the character's Marvel Comics history ...
Clea would appear off and on in Strange comics over the years, usually whenever Dormammu resurfaced to try and wrest away control of the Dark Dimension, but the romance between the two sorcerers cooled. Armed with this knowledge, she defeated her mother and became the new ruler and Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension. And though Stephen refused her offer to join her, the two eventually marry in Doctor Strange, Sorcerer Supreme #3 (1988), creating a magical bond between them. Strange opens the third eye on his forehead and jumps in with a new sense of fearlessness about what lies ahead. Eventually, Clea’s personality took on added depth after she was cast out of the Dark Dimension and lost her natural-born magical abilities on Earth. She began training under Stephen Strange, and served as his apprentice and love interest for many years. The mid-credits scene finds Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) happier than ever and recently recovered from a splitting headache that reveals a third eye on his forehead, a consequence of his use of the Darkhold. But that’s not the only thing he has to worry about. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is packed enough with crowd-pleasing cameos both big and small, but it doesn’t let the credits roll by without delivering one last surprise.
