UNCONFIRMED reports made on Thursday, May 5 originally suggested that the Russian Navy 'Admiral Makarov' has been sunk by Neptune missiles launched by.

Naval tracking sites reported that a Russian rescue ship (SPK-46150) was dispatched to the last location the Admiral Makarov spotted with rumours suggesting that the warship is on fire. UPDATE 2.58 pm (May 6) – Although reports of the Admiral Makarov – a Russian missile frigate – being sunk have still yet to be confirmed by either side, video footage and photos circulating on social media allegedly show the warship on fire.

A report in Forbes said that Russian commanders were aware that the Admiral Makarov would be a Ukrainian target now. The significant damage to the Admiral Makarov would be a serious blow to Putin's forces. The Admiral Makarov is one of just three frigates of its class active in the Black Sea. Alongside that, a number of unconfirmed reports said the warship was hit by Ukrainian missiles near the Sevastopol naval plant in Crimea, on the Black Sea. It was said to be close to Snake Island in the Black Sea, where a rescue operation was underway involving multiple aircrafts and rescue boats.

REPORTS are emerging that a Russian navy frigate has been hit by Ukrainian Neptune missiles.

"OSINTdefender", an open source intelligence monitor, tweeted: "It’s seeming more and more likely that the claims about the Russian Frigate Admiral Makarov being stuck by Ukrainian Anti-Ship Missiles off the Coast of Odessa are true. It is one of three such frigates in the possession of the Russian Black Sea fleet. The Admiral Markov was commissioned in 2017 and is the most modern vessel in her class, and as such was a prime target for the Ukrainian army. The 409-foot Admiral Makarov is one of the most important ships at the disposal of the Russian Black Sea fleet. Social media user "UOI", a war analyst, wrote: "Sources say the Russian frigate was hit by a Neptune missile and is on fire near Snake Island." The Admiral Makarov is said to have been struck by anti-ship missiles while it was in waters off the coast of Odessa. Rescue ships and aircraft have reportedly been sent to the area and are being tracked by US surveillance drones.
