Stirling's electorate went to the polls yesterday and now we wait to see who has been elected to form the next council administration for the next five ...

He stood in place of Evelyn Tweed, who chose not run for the council again after being elected Stirling’s MSP at last year’s Scottish Parliament election. At the 2017 elections, 23 councillors were elected. Graham Lambie won one for the SNP but his sudden death last year sparked a by-election which saw the Tories gain another seat. One of the big issues for me is transport, on local bus routes and making sure there are no more cuts to vital services." Having in previous years secured some of the strongest voting results of any councillor, the ward could be one to watch. Labour has five and the Greens have one. There were 6,095 votes cast in the ward - with a turnout of 56.2 per cent. Stirling North is the latest ward to be announced in the room - and it's a case of as you were in terms of party. There were 5,107 votes cast in the ward - a turnout of 44.7 per cent. The SNP and Conservatives currently have seven councillors each. There were 5,600 votes cast in the ward for a turnout of 54.9 per cent. A little more reaction from the counting hall - and it's from one of the stories of the day in newly-elected Labour councillor for Dunblane and Bridge of Allan, Ewan Dillon.

Scottish elections: Counts begins in country's 32 council's (The National)

VOTES are being counted across Scotland the country after Scots cast their ballots in the local elections.

The counting process for the STV system also takes more time than those used in general elections or the Scottish parliamentary elections, meaning results are not declared as quickly as they are under other systems. The STV (single transferable vote) system used in local government ballots in Scotland makes it difficult for parties to win overall control of councils, meaning there will most likely be talks after results are announced to determine whether parties can operate as minority administrations, or if local coalitions can be formed. The results are expected to be delivered throughout Friday afternoon, with some 1227 councillors to be elected.

Scottish Elections 2022: What time will the results be announced ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

The Tories face a tough fight to remain the 'voice of Unionism' in Scotland as the SNP continue to threaten another independence vote.

They can also vote in the local elections for the two different local councils. The process continues until all of a ward's councillors are elected. Labour lost 133 seats in the 2017 contest and won only 20 per cent of the vote. Ms Sturgeon's Holyrood election win was her fourth consecutive victory in a row. All British citizens and foreign nationals with leave to remain, including refugees, are eligible to vote. Events such as "partygate", the war in Ukraine and the cost of living crisis are sure to have had an impact on voters as they cast their votes yesterday on May 5.
