Sheffield United progress to the play-offs without panic as Fulham ... (Yorkshire Post)

The wing-back's throw-in went to John Fleck, who fed Sander Berge, who played it to Enda Stevens, the man over, to drill home. It was all one-touch stuff, ...

As half-time approached Gibbs-White had a goal disallowed for offside and Wes Foderingham stuck out a left boot to deny Fabio Carvalho what looked a certain goal. Within 10 minutes they led, Osborn laying the ball back to Oliver Norwood, whose cross Gibbs-White headed in at the near post. Bobby Decordova-Reid's shot against a defender was the clearest signal. The Cottagers had actually started the game looking reasonably hungry but the Blades were absolutely ravenous for the win that would book their place in the play-offs, and their makeshift 22-year-old strikers Iliman Ndiaye and Morgan Gibbs-White rose to the big occasion. Behind them, Sander Berge was in the mood too. Gibbs-White and Chris Basham were soon pulling out the party pieces.

Yo-yo clubs like Norwich and Fulham left in football purgatory ... (iNews)

Promotion to the Premier League should be an exciting time for any team, but for supporters of a small group of clubs the experience is wearing thin. As the ...

“I hope it’s not the case smaller clubs cannot exist in the Premier League any more but it is getting harder and harder,” Moruzzi adds. And after a while that becomes not that exciting as a prospect.” “When you’re in a league where you’re competitive and can play football that’s more fun, no question. “But what we’ve got is a Premier League and a Premier League 1.5.” Not only do they have a slightly aging squad, there are doubts if three players key to this season will cut it in the top flight: captain Tom Cairney, 31, and Tim Ream, 34, and even prolific Championship goal-scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, 27, who has failed to prove himself in the Premier League previously. “If you have luck and no injuries then you have a chance. We’re in a situation now where you feel they’re 11 blokes chucked out and let’s see what happens and inevitably they end up losing and everyone goes home miserable.” And while they have only received an increase from 45 per cent to 58 per cent of broadcast income in recent years, the money they generate from commercial deals and ticket sales is where the real discrepancy lies. “There’s a growing sense that we lost our way a bit as a club,” says Michael Moruzzi, 43, who has supported the club for more than 30 years. When Daniel Farke was appointed manager in May 2017 they finished 14th in the Championship then won it a year later. “As far as the Premier League is concerned they would say we’re a successful product, we’re the world’s most popular team sport, and the focus is on the top six and not the bottom, and ultimately who cares about the bottom six?” Maguire says. Watford twice up and twice down in eight.

Enda Stevens on target as Sheffield Utd crush champions Fulham to ... (Irish Examiner)

Republic of Ireland international Stevens rounded off the scoring early in the second half of the 4-0 win, with Nottingham Forest next up in the play-offs ...

Fulham were restricted to a low shot from Kebano which was deflected wide and a header from Rodrigo Muniz which was saved by Foderingham down low to his right. The visitors threatened again when Neeskens Kebano sliced an angled shot wide and then Fabio Carvalho saw his effort saved by Foderingham with his legs. The goal came in the 10th minute when Ben Osborn played the ball back to Oli Norwood, whose cross was met by a near-post header from Gibbs-White with the ball going in off Paulo Gazzaniga's left-hand post.

Berge squared the ball perfectly to left wing-back Enda Stevens, in acres of space in the box, and he swept it home. Sheffield United v Fulham: Heckingbottom makes one change for ... (Sheffield United News)

Paul Heckingbottom will make one change to his starting XI as Sheffield United look to see off Fulham at Bramall Lane.

The in-form Iliman Ndiaye will lead the line once again. A whole host of permutations are on offer when it comes to fifth and sixth place. Further up the pitch, Conor Hourihane and Morgan Gibbs-White have recovered from minor knocks and should both be fine.

Liverpool star and Ballon d'Or contender – The XI of players Fulham ... (HITC)

Fulham will be back in the Premier League next season, but perhaps they never would have been playing Championship football if they got their transfers right.

Where would Fulham be if they’d managed to even get a handful of these deals over the line? At the time, it wasn’t a ridiculous decision. There we have it, a team packed full of Champions League winners and world superstars. I could go from the Atletico B team to the Premier League. The Whites’ transfer business in recent years has been dodgy to say the least. After all, Hodgson did try to play Roberto Carlos on the wing during his time at Inter Milan.
