Jonathan Hogg, Toffolo and Sinani were all withdrawn before the hour mark as Corberan switched his attention to their play-off endeavours. An influential Danel Sinani shrugged off the challenge of veteran defender Timm Klose before firing low to Bentley’s left, but the keeper did well to save. Harry Toffolo opened the scoring after a smart solo run with Danny Ward doubling the hosts’ lead.

Huddersfield Town vs Bristol City live: Updates from the John ... (Bristol Live)

All the build-up, live match action and reaction as Bristol City aim to extend their unbeaten run and end the season in style.

Frustration and poor quality as Scott finds room to have a speculative effort from range but it rises and never comes down. It could be three as Ward gets acres of space down the left. James' effort is the last touch of the season. Eiting perhaps harshly goes into the book. First one of the half falls to Sinani who outmuscles Klose to win the ball on the edge of the box. He just has Bentley to beat on the angle but the skipper reads it and does well to keep it out. Close! Semenyo's long throw causes havoc in the box and it lands to the feet of Klose who tries to curl it into the far corner. He's sat down to the left of the dugout and is having his left knee strapped with ice. The centreback does go down whilst Huddersfield have the ball and it's put out of play for the sub to be made. Nice bit of back to front from Sarr to send Pipa up against Tanner. The Englishman stands up his man and defends it well for a corner which is easily cleared. Atkinson then clatters into Blackman for a high ball but the keeper takes it well and City still look no closer to getting anything out of this game. It bounces around for a bit on the edge of the box before the home side win a corner and City can clear it.

Huddersfield Town 2-0 Bristol City: Terriers victorious ahead of play ... (VAVEL.com)

It was a dominant performance from Huddersfield Town, who comfortably saw off The Robins ahead of their play-off campaign.

As for Nigel Pearson's Bristol City, it was a disappointing way to end the season. It was a promising performance from the hosts ahead of their playoff campaign, as The Terriers look to return to the Premier League after their relegation in 2019. Naby Sarr's defensive header back to his goalkeeper was weak, but Jamal Blackman was just about able to claim the ball as Semenyo looked to get a goal back for Pearson's side. The Huddersfield defender looked nervous soon after as his touch under pressure was poor, but he was able to recover it just in time. Timm Klose fired a shot just over the bar as The Robins looked to get a goal back in West Yorkshire. Danel Sinani had a chance to put the ball in the box after finding himself in space on the left, but his cross was blocked. Massengo tried to shimmy his way into the box, but his run towards goal was halted and sent behind for a corner that came to nothing. They had the goal they were after in the 43rd minute, as Holmes crossed to Ward, who just about managed to get the ball over the line to make it 2-0. There was a goalmouth scramble from the corner that followed, but it was cleared in the end by a Robins player. Chris Martin had the first major chance of the game, as Semenyo cut the ball back to him, but his shot from the edge of the box was deflected wide. Semenyo then had a chance to give Bristol City the lead, but he failed to bring the ball under control. It was a disappointing afternoon for Bristol City, who really struggled to contain the hosts in wide areas.

Renewed Huddersfield Town pride and Jon Russell's role in final ... (Yorkshire Live)

Plus thoughts on Huddersfield Town's best formation to face Luton Town, Duane Holmes passing the final audition in midfield and what could be a crucial ...

That teamsheet on Friday night really is going to be incredibly interesting in all areas of the pitch. It was a relief to see him get back up and carry on after a nasty-looking slip had the John Smith's Stadium groaning in worry. If Town hadn’t played Luton, QPR and Middlesbrough so recently, we might be tempted to dismiss this point, but the way Town have handled so many key absences has been a real pleasant surprise over the past few weeks. Judging from the scores we respectively gave him for this game, this is one of those occasions where we differ. That is the enormous benefit of both Corberan’s adaptability and the squad depth at his disposal. On the other hand, Corberan was willing to eschew that general principle against Nottingham Forest, Reading and Sheffield United over the second half of the season. Russell was impressive playing that number six role here, and we admit we may have sold him a bit short with a 7 in our player ratings. That was the last time we saw it, however; it’s been a three all the way from Middlesbrough onwards. It was far from shorts weather on this occasion as it was back then, but the calves were out in spirit as Carlos Corberan happily strolled around outside the John Smith’s Stadium before the game, making himself available for selfies and autographs. That meant Town rose a place in the table and will now start their play-off campaign next Friday. Here are our five conclusions on the game. Short of a 5-0 defeat at Kenilworth Road next Friday, it’s hard to imagine a circumstance where those good vibes evaporate entirely regardless how they fare in the play-offs. Carlos Corberan picked a much-rotated side with six changes from the side that claimed victory away to Coventry City last week.
