This will be the first match since Mikel Arteta signed his latest contract extension. Leeds United have plenty to play for however with Jesse Marsch's side embroiled in a battle for survival. Chelsea's 2-2 draw with Wolves means that the Gunners can also go within just one point of third place.

Live score and updates from Arsenal vs. Leeds United, as the races for a Champions League spot and against relegation continue in the Premier League.

Leeds, as the Gunners aim to extend their lead over Spurs in the top-four race. 50 mins to KO: For the Gunners, Takehiro Tomiyasu will need to ply his trade in an unfamiliar role of left-back today. 1hr 30 mins to KO: Leeds will have their own aspirations of coming away from North London with all three points, in what would be a massive step towards securing their Premier League status. Can Mikel Arteta's men deliver a crucial three points in front of their own supporters? 16th min: Arsenal is in total control of proceedings, creating numerous openings that have troubled the Leeds defence. The 20-year-old has five goal contributions from 16 Premier League appearances this campaign, including a crucial 94th-minute winning goal against Norwich back in March. 5th min: GOAL! Eddie Nketiah capitalizes on a loose touch from Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier and bundles into the net from close. 60 mins to KO: Both teams are in! Nevertheless, fellow basement battlers, Everton has a game in hand on Jesse Marsch's men, signifying that they need a result to avoid the looming threat of uncertainty surrounding their Premier League status. There is also room to capitalize on Tottenham's failure to come away from Anfield with a win yesterday, potentially meaning Arsenal can move four points clear of the Lilywhites with a victory. Raphinha is also booked for the visitors. 20 mins to KO: Kick-off is fast approaching!

The Gunners can move four points clear of rivals Spurs with a win in the race to finish in the Premier League's top four.

Newcastle United have taken only two points here in 16 previous visits, but can they throw a spanner in the works today? Dubravka never troubled in the visitors’ goal. Allan-Saint Maximin breaks free on the right-hand side after a swift counter-attack but his ball across towards Miguel Almiron is blocked. Bruno Guimaraes is looking to break forward whenever he picks up the ball in a central area. If the original header had not hit Guimaraes we’d be all level here. There is a tight scrap to avoid joining Watford and Norwich in being relegated.

Arsenal 2-1 Leeds United: Premier League – as it happened (The Guardian)

Eddie Nketiah's early double and Luke Ayling's red card let Jesse Marsch's relegation-threatened side with too much to do.

51 min Leeds are hell-bent on damage limitation, gathering everyone behind the ball in a 4-3-2 formation. 55 min Leeds manage half a minute of possession and win a couple of free kicks, but it’s all in their own half. 57 min Four corners in a row for Arsenal, who stand third behind Man City and Liverpool in the goals-from-corners table this season. Everton are still 2-1 up at Leicester, against the run of their whole season. Leeds get their first corner, there’s a neat flick-on and Diego Llorente is there, unmarked at the far post, to cash in with a crisp shot. Guess which of them is in the rock-star shades. Leeds are on 34 points, the same as Burnley, but are in effect a point behind because their goal difference is awful (-35) while Burnley’s is not too bad (-17). Both of them have three games to go while Everton have four. A Leeds defender tidies up on the halfway line. On the hour, Marsch plays his final card: Raphinha off, in case his yellow card turns red, and Rodrigo on. 69 min Leeds are now playing with a bit of belief. Poor old Leeds sink into the bottom three – but since going down to ten men in the 27th minute, they’ve actually won this game 1-0. So Everton are a point ahead of both Burnley and Leeds, with a game in hand.

Arsenal vs Leeds: Player ratings and analysis as Gunners set up ... (iNews)

Arsenal now know victory in Thursday's rearranged derby clash with Spurs will guarantee them a place in next season's Champions League.

Leeds host Chelsea and Brighton before concluding at Brentford. Burnley go to Tottenham and Aston Villa and then face Newcastle at Elland Road on the final day. We must wait until the fourth week of May for all this to play out, further disturbing the game’s body clock. The awful moment that followed was more a collective failure though Meslier will carry the burden in his soul. The warping of the seasons enforced by Covid continues next term with the advent of a December World Cup. And Arsene Wenger wants us to go every two years with the global pageant. Following Everton’s accelerating revival at the King Power it looks increasingly like a straight fight between Leeds and Burnley to stay up. Llorente had already hooked the ball off his own line earlier in the game but was now on hand to score with the visitors’ first shot of the game and set up a nervy finish.

Ten-man Leeds plunged into relegation mire as Arsenal tighten grip ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

Arsenal took command of the race for Champions League qualification with rivals Tottenham Hotspur and yet somehow left their fans still fearing they could ...

"Not right now [I'm not thinking about other sides] I think there's still too many games left," the Leeds manager said. Raphinha, boy do Leeds needs shift from him now, gets on the ball, cuts in and delivers a good cross to the back post. Anyway, the point I'm try to make is that with Wenger at the helm, even in those later years, Arsenal were more successful than they are now and one of the consequences of that was winning titles and getting under the skin of your big rivals, back then Manchester United, who also used to win stuff... This is going from bad to worse for the visitors. This match is over as a contest and it's a case of guess the final score. To make matters worse, Everton are 2-1 up at Leicester sending Jesse Marsch's men, for now, into the bottom three. One thing Arsenal may be thinking about is goal difference - Spurs currently enjoy an advantage of five over their north London rivals. Cedric delivers a great cross from the right, Xhaka knocks it down in the box and Martinelli volleys just wide. If it was still 2-0 you'd suggested this match was meandering to the ref's final whistle. The Leeds right back jumped into an attempted tackle on Martinelli near the touchline with both studs showing. Arsenal’s advantage should have been five or six goals and yet it was reduced to just one in the 66th minute, when the home side were caught out by a clever corner routine. The tone was set in just the sixth minute, when Ayling sent a pass back to Illan Meslier that the goalkeeper should have dealt with comfortably.

Eddie Nketiah guides Arsenal to brink of top four finish as 10-man ... (The Independent)

Arsenal 2-1 Leeds: Luke Ayling's red card appeared to end the Whites' hopes before Diego Llorente's second-half strike gave the Gunners a scare.

It was all too easy, and Ayling’s mindless challenge with Martinelli trapped in the corner – upgraded to a red card after a VAR check – seemed sure to be the nail in the coffin. The word seamless doesn’t seem to exist in Arsenal’s dictionary, though, and they were punished for failing to extend their lead either side of half time, with Martinelli always threatening but lacking an incisive finish. Their ragged start was only made more concerning by the grave stakes at hand, with a recently resurgent Everton kicking off simultaneously against Leicester, and their 2-1 victory now leaves Leeds in the bottom three, below Burnley courtesy of an inferior goal difference. Old habits die hard but it is becoming a theme of Arteta's side that they can – just about – stave off the disasters of their own making, and they now take what, on this evidence, may well be a vital margin for error into Thursday’s crucial north London derby. But being Arsenal, a four-point lead over Tottenham in the top-four race needed to be wrestled into reality after it had been gifted to them. After Tottenham dropped points against Liverpool yesterday, there ought to have been a degree of pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side, one that in the past they’ve struggled at times to shoulder.
