The ball is led to safety by Iwobi, who carries it 20 yards and wins a throw in on the halfway line. The players take the knee to the sound of applause and then Anthony Gordon gets us underway. First real chance for Everton: Richarlison wins the long ball for the first time, flicking it on to Gray. Gray is clearly pulled back but Mike Dean waves play on. Iwobi swings a ball in and Richarlison gets his head on it. Everton break thanks to a stunning ball from Pickford to set Gordon free down the right. Everton have forced their way higher up the pitch and this is better. They can soak this up and they’ve had some openings at the other end of the pitch to maybe take advantage. He carries it forward 15 yards and wins a free kick on the edge of the box. Gray gets an opportunity to cross but it’s blocked and the ball is cleared. Mykolenko, the first defender, clears the ball to edge of the box and Gosling runs onto it. On the touch line, Paul Clement is paying close attention to the corners. Delph and Gordon win the ball and set Richarlison free.

Everton have had a great few days, beating Chelsea and Leicester to move out of the bottom three. They therefore need points to complete their great escape — and today's game against Watford represents surely their best chance. Their season finishes with a trip to Arsenal, and 35 points is unlikely to be enough to keep them up.

Everton at Watford: kickoff time, starting lineups, TV schedule, live ... (Royal Blue Mersey)

Everton have won two games on the bounce and have seen themselves surge out of the relegation zone, but with just a few matches left to play this season, ...

The eternal pessimist in us knows this is exactly the kind of game Everton tend to slip, trip and fall on their faces, as they have done so many times over the years. The last time the two sides played, Everton were leading at home 2-1 with about twelve-odd minutes to play. 28’ - Richy goes down on the edge of the box, but Mike Dean wants nothing to do with it. The fans certainly will be there like they have been the last few games - it sounds like we might have 7,000-plus supporters at Watford with Vicarage Road only holding about 21,500. Norwich City and today’s opponents Watford FC have both already been relegated, leaving three teams in direct danger of falling into the last spot. Theoretically, Southampton, Leicester City and Newcastle are also still in the relegation race, but it will need a monumental turnaround in fortunes to see them dragged down. The lineups are out and Frank Lampard has named a full strength side, taking no chances here. 44’ - Ugh, Iwobi gives away a needless freekick from a dangerous position on the Everton right now. Gray puts it into the box, partly cleared, and Abdoulaye Doucoure tries to head it over Ben Foster but can’t get enough power on his header. 42’ - Ngakia nutmegs Myko who catches his foot, and Watford have a freekick from a great position. Watford suddenly started stroking the ball around and Everton were left chasing their tails at Goodison Park, ending up losing in humiliating fashion 5-2. Still sitting in their ‘safe’ 5-4-1 with Alex Iwobi at right wingback.
