Liverpool and Chelsea will go head-to-head at the FA Cup final on May 14, which makes 2022 the 150th anniversary of the competition.

Fans can tune in on the BBC and ITV, who are sharing TV rights to the match this year. The Royal Engineers would later get their first all-important FA Cup trophy in 1875 against Old Etonians. ‘For me, I am not a doctor and we need to wait for the examinations,’ he said.

Minute-by-minute report: Who will come out on top when the duo contest their second final of the season. Find out with Rob Smyth.

So even though Chelsea are current world champions, Liverpool have a stronger case to be the best team on the planet, and indeed in the solar system. Thomas Tuchel needs to make a call on the fitness of N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic, neither of whom are 100 per cent fit. (That lot on Neptune are still playing the W-M formation FFS.) The recent form of both clubs makes them odds-on favourites today, though Chelsea looked a lot perkier when they dismantled Leeds in the week. One of those was a 2-1 victory over Liverpool a decade ago, when Petr Cech made one of the great FA Cup final saves. This is the 150th FA Cup final; none of the previous 149 have involved one recent world champion, never mind two. Then, on 17 May 1997, they beat Middlesbrough in the FA Cup final to win their first major honour in 26 years.

Old traditions meet modern convention in FA Cup final of promise (The Guardian)

Liverpool and Chelsea clash at Wembley on Saturday with a rich history of Cup success in today's changing landscape.

For all this, and for all the Cardiff heroics of Michael Owen in 2001 and Steven Gerrard in 2006, Liverpool have not won the Cup at Wembley for 30 years. Those seven wins between 1997 and 2018 – achieved under seven managers – feel somehow pivotal to the mythology of the modern Chelsea, the idea that there is no club in England better at lifting itself for the one-off occasion. But nor is it the sort of thing you put on the side of a bus. For Jürgen Klopp and his formidable Liverpool team, the FA Cup represents a sort of final frontier, a destination as well as a part of the wider journey. At its best the FA Cup is not simply a time capsule or historical re-enactment. One of the greatest misconceptions about the FA Cup over the years is that it has failed to move with the times.

FA Cup final: Ownership drama 'fuels' Chelsea players to perform (BBC News)

Mason Mount and Erin Cuthbert have been speaking ahead of the FA Cup finals for the men and women.

So we're under no illusions it's going to be a tough game." When Erin spoke to Newsbeat last year, she said her pre-match superstition was to take a bath in magnesium salts. "To win would be monumental for a team that has built itself within the reputation of its own supporters as being one of the greatest ever." The Liverpool podcaster will be at Wembley to watch the game, as his club chases an unprecedented quadruple, and says he'll be feeling the "butterflies on Saturday morning". The 23-year-old has not yet won a domestic trophy with Chelsea, having lost two previous finals, and says he's "buzzing" to have the chance to change that. "The more you see people knocking us down the more you want to let the football do the talking," Erin adds.

and should Tuchel play Havertz or Lukaku? Liverpool and Chelsea's predicted XIs for the FA Cup final at Wembley This could just give him the edge over Konate. Tuchel has admitted that Kante is not 100% fit at the moment, but he is back in training, and given the significance of the match, he could be risked. However, Havertz is the ultimate big-game player, having scored in multiple cup finals already for Chelsea. With this in mind, it could leave Lukaku having to settle for a place on the bench. A calming influence at the back, he has proven time and time again that he is a man for the big occasions. At that point, it looked like his cup final dreams were in tatters, but he has made a remarkable recovery, and Tuchel has confirmed that he has a chance of playing. Thomas Tuchel put his faith in Mendy in the Carabao Cup final in February, and he is likely to do the same again here. Salah may have been a little unhappy to only start Liverpool's game against Villa on the bench given that the Golden Boot is on the line, but that should ensure that he is fresh for this game. He came on for the Brazilian in midweek and did a solid job, and Liverpool will hope that his experience will prove crucial in this clash. The Guinea international seems to have gone from strength to strength as the season has progressed, and he is likely to take his place on right-hand side of Liverpool's midfield three. He won the Player of the Match award in the Carabao Cup final, and the Dutchman will be hoping to create more happy memories with the Merseyside club at Wembley on Saturday. Caoimhin Kelleher got the nod in the Carabao Cup final, but Alisson has been Jurgen Klopp's preferred option in the latter stages of the FA Cup, and he should take his place in goal on this occasion as well.

Petr Cech played 5,655 minutes that season, while Branislav Ivanovic managed 4,991 – and still had enough in the tank to score the winner against Benfica in the Europa League final. Never mind Eurovision, Chelsea fans can enjoy double vision over the next few days. Despite being the nominal home team at Wembley, Chelsea will wear the yellow kit for the 12th time this season. When Chelsea won the FIFA Club World Cup, it was the third cup in 229 days to be won under Thomas Tuchel, the second quickest time to such a haul by any Blues coach after Gianluca Vialli’s 153-day spree in 1998. Chelsea have visited the new Wembley stadium three times more than Liverpool, although both clubs will be making their 41st appearance at all incarnations of the national stadium as a neutral venue this weekend. The Senegalese, remember, was thwarted by a sensational double save from his international teammate Edou Mendy in the Carabao Cup final. The Chelsea Women stars earned their stripes by clinching the Women’s Super League again last weekend. Injury ruled the Scot out of the Conti Cup final, which the Mancunians won 3-1. In fact it was the perfect night but for Dan James’ red-card tackle, one straight out of the brutal 1970 final playbook. From being out of the side, Romelu Lukaku can take considerable momentum to Wembley, linking well with deeper-lying forwards Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic, dominating centre-backs and notching three times in two games. Chelsea will be out to make sure Saturday is third time lucky. Last night’s north London derby result, which went the way of Tottenham, means one more league win will confirm third place and Champions League football next season Stamford Bridge. One point should be enough for fourth given our goal difference.

But at such a delicately poised period of their recent history, with so much to be seized, this Liverpool squad find themselves on the cusp of genuine greatness. "It is about the way we play, the way we develop and the state the club is in. This is a healthy club in a good situation. For Liverpool, none of that is their concern. They have several of their own reasons for wanting more silver to add to the 2021/22 haul.

He made a point of coming to me on the pitch, he walked over and said that to me and those moments, even in defeat, remain. And it was certainly a cup final for the ages as West Ham had raced into a two-goal lead within 30 minutes after Jamie Carragher scored an own goal and Dean Ashton hit the back of the net. Paul Konchesky put West Ham back in front, who were on course to win their first FA Cup since 1980, until Gerrard stepped up yet again. In an absolute classic that pitted Rafa Benitez against Pardew, the cup would eventually be on its way to Merseyside - but not before 120 minutes of pure football theatre. Pardew said: “He was very humble to me after the game.

‘Yeah, I think I of course want to be on the pitch, and recently with the limited times that I have had, I have been trying to make as big of an impact as I can. One of the cliches used around the cup is that it gives a chance for ‘unfashionable teams’ to capture the public imagination. In the mid-60s, Liverpool and Chelsea were the most fashionable sides in the game.” It has been a source of frustration, most of all to his father, who took to social media to complain about how his son is not used more. Follow live coverage of Chelsea vs Liverpool in the 2022 FA Cup final, below: For much of the past two decades there have been attempts to manufacture a rivalry between the clubs that goes beyond the natural levels of antagonism. A modern rivalry, steeped in FA Cup history. Chelsea will also be desperate to avoid becoming the first team in FA Cup history to lose three consecutive finals, after they were beaten by Leicester and Arsenal in 2021 and 2020 respectively. Chelsea cruised through their opening encounter, with Timo Werner, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Romelu Lukaku and Andreas Christensen all on target in the first half. It remains a possibility for Jurgen Klopp’s side, even if Manchester City are closing in on the Premier League title, but Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel will be out for revenge as they aim to win the competition for the ninth time. Kepa Arrizabalaga was the extra-time hero for Chelsea, saving Ryan Hardie’s spot-kick to sneak the Blues through without the need for a shoot-out. The Blues had no real pressure dealing with Middlesbrough, however, and progressed to the last four.

FA Cup final: How to unpick the Liverpool lock - and why Chelsea ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

The teams produced a classic at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final - what will Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel have learned?

He has made more interceptions than any Liverpool midfielder while Thiago Alcantara is the only midfielder to win more tackles. Fabinho has won possession in the middle third 131 times this Premier League season, more times than any Liverpool player. James was injured for the last two Chelsea matches against Liverpool but his return showed what a loss he was for Tuchel in mid-winter. The Spaniard also lost possession in the build-up to Richarlison’s winning goal for Everton against Chelsea. His touchmap in the draw with Tottenham shows a player frequently receiving the ball in areas which we might expect from an attacking midfielder. Tuchel’s alternative in the last two meetings with Liverpool though, has been deploying attackers in more withdrawn roles ready to spring from deep.

'The greatest thrill is playing at Wembley': What the FA Cup final ... (The Independent)

As supporters return in full capacity for the first time in two years, the historical and cultural significance of the FA Cup final cannot be understated, ...

Part of the glory of scoring the FA Cup final winner was not just winning the day, as everyone watched. The numbers that travelled to London for the final were often dwarfed by the numbers that greeted the winning teams on their returns. Back on the morning of that 1953 final, the national press made a clear choice. That was why Sir Alex Ferguson’s decision to drop Jim Leighton in 1990 was itself unthinkable, and genuinely one of the most controversial team selections in football history. It was a day that really had it all, and thereby infused the entire history of the competition with compelling folklore. It was seen as an equal achievement to the league, that merely involved different challenges and strengths. It was so much more than “the Matthews final”, and not just because of the praise due Stanley Mortenson, who scored the only hat-trick in a Wembley final. For working-class Blackburn to be part of the national narrative, in the same sphere as the Old Etonians, that must have been a really powerful and intoxicating thing in Victorian England.” As an example, the British ship-builders had a base on the Wear, and donated £800 to get to the semi-final and £1,200 to get to the final. That’s a really important aspect of the FA Cup.” Such congregations were a recognition of the very achievement winning the FA Cup used to be. With a capacity crowd returning to Wembley for the first time since 2019, Liverpool enjoying their first in a decade and many of these Chelsea players gracing their first non-pandemic final, they might well have the same sense of wonder Lofthouse did in 1953.

Live score updates, plus latest team news, TV information and stream from Wembley as Liverpool take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

Liverpool head to Wembley in search of their eighth FA Cup victory as they continue their quest for an unprecedented quadruple. Werner has scored 11 goals in 37 appearances this season and was heavily linked with Liverpool before his £53m move to Chelsea in 2020. Chelsea had three goals ruled out for offside while Liverpool had one before Kepa Arrizabalaga’s missed penalty handed the Reds an 11-10 spot kick victory. Chelsea, meanwhile, could be without Mateo Kovacic, but N'Golo Kante is back in contention. This team under Jurgen Klopp has won almost everything, but the FA Cup is one they're yet to secyre. Despite being 16 points clear in the league, it won’t be easy for Liverpool with the Reds having not beaten Chelsea in normal time this season on three separate occasions. "For me, I'd say the game-changers for Liverpool will be Liverpool's front three and Fabinho if he's fit enough to play. Obviously this is the closest we’ve been to it so it’s exciting for us and we are looking forward to it and can’t wait to go back to Wembley again.” It’s the one we haven’t quite managed to achieve just yet. Fabinho is a key player for Liverpool, so will be a huge miss as he recovers from injury. "Mason Mount is so important for anything Chelsea do well. Chelsea, meanwhile, could be without Mateo Kovacic, but N'Golo Kante is back in contention.

Chelsea vs Liverpool represents an FA Cup final befitting the occasion (Metro)

There's around ten miles between the Kennington Oval and Wembley, venues for the first FA Cup final and the one being staged tomorrow, 150 years later.

With global stars like Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder to call on, Chelsea have utilised plenty of financial clout but without Hayes their dominance would be in question. On Sunday, Emma Hayes will lead her all-conquering Chelsea team out against Manchester City in the Women’s FA Cup final. But, with off-field uncertainty, global icons and a superstar manager it is making up for lost time. The Carabao Cup final was the third draw between Chelsea and Liverpool this season and the last time Klopp’s men failed to score. The world champions conceded 14 goals in eight games in April, including three to Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge and four to Brentford and Arsenal. Last Saturday, two late goals cost them victory over Wolves and left Chelsea having won just one in five league games.
