Still, he should have scored the opener after he broke through on goal, and then went inches away from scoring a winner with a curling shot in the dying seconds of normal time. Seemed to relish the battle with Lukaku and was brilliant in the air defensively. One occasion aside, in which he was caught under the ball with a cross that led to a shot for Alonso, his defending at the back post was excellent. Was required to drop in and help Chalobah deal with the threat of Diaz and it made a big impact. Had the chance to win the cup but saw his kick saved by Mendy. - the rest of the game was not so leisurely. Handed a big opportunity to start but didn’t turn up, as Chelsea continue to struggle to get the best out of him. Another excellent and calming performance in a big game from the Chelsea goalkeeper. An assuring and composed display - typified by his challenge on Mane after the Liverpool forward had skipped past Silva. Will be such a big miss when he leaves for Real Madrid. Thoughts of February’s Carabao Cup final returned as he made an excellent save with his legs to deny Diaz in the early exchanges. It was Chelsea’s turn to start quickly after the break, as Alonso went close and Alisson saved Pulisic’s effort, before Alonso hit the crossbar with a free-kick. Alisson also made a good save to stop Marcos Alonso while Christian Pulisic and substitute Diogo Jota had chances, but it was an injury to Mohamed Salah that was the most notable incident of the first half, with the Liverpool forward coming off on 32 minutes with a groin problem.

FA Cup final: How to unpick the Liverpool lock - and why Chelsea ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

The teams produced a classic at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final - what will Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel have learned?

He has made more interceptions than any Liverpool midfielder while Thiago Alcantara is the only midfielder to win more tackles. Fabinho has won possession in the middle third 131 times this Premier League season, more times than any Liverpool player. James was injured for the last two Chelsea matches against Liverpool but his return showed what a loss he was for Tuchel in mid-winter. The Spaniard also lost possession in the build-up to Richarlison’s winning goal for Everton against Chelsea. His touchmap in the draw with Tottenham shows a player frequently receiving the ball in areas which we might expect from an attacking midfielder. Tuchel’s alternative in the last two meetings with Liverpool though, has been deploying attackers in more withdrawn roles ready to spring from deep.

Liverpool player ratings vs Chelsea: Luis Diaz constant threat with ... (Evening Standard)

Kostas Tsimikas was the hero as Liverpool beat Chelsea 6-5 on penalties to win the FA Cup.

Played down the middle and dropped in deep to pick up the ball and start attacks. Had little involvement beyond that, though it was a great penalty under pressure in the shootout. Sent a tame shot straight at Edouard Mendy and failed to have much of an impact on the match. His positioning was perfect on more than one occasion, whether it be to close down a run in behind or clear a cross into the box. Hardly noticeable for much of the match, which is a compliment to someone playing that role. Stunning save in the shootout to deny Mason Mount and send his side on their way to victory.

Chelsea found him impossible to handle in the first 20 minutes, twice putting dangerous crosses and denied by a combination of Mendy and Chalobah when clear. Non-stop from the Senegalese, who deserved better than to miss in shoot-out. Became an influence again during the latter stages. Should have done better when hitting post from close range late on in normal time and tired. Offered Diaz plenty of support down the left and much fresher in his defensive duties. Another fine save from Pulisic after break.

Liverpool defeated Chelsea 6-5 on penalties to win the FA Cup and keep their quadruple dreams alive.

Liverpool took the advantage in the shootout when Cesar Azpilicueta struck the post. But just like when the Premier League heavyweights met in the Carabao Cup final in February, the game ended goalless after 90 minute and extra-time ensued. Andy Robertson went closest with just six minutes left when he struck the post.

Luis Diaz has reportedly made an error when lifting the FA Cup following Liverpool's final victory over Chelsea at Wembley this afternoon.

The Greece international scored the winning penalty during the shootout, giving the Reds a 6-5 win after two hours of football couldn’t separate Klopp’s troops from the Stamford Bridge outfit. During the trophy presentation, Diaz lifted the FA Cup over his head but the lid flew off and hit the deck, according to The Express. In fact, he was arguably Liverpool’s finest player the last time Jurgen Klopp’s side met the Blues at Wembley, for the Carabao Cup final a few months ago.
