James Tarkowski admits Burnley have not been good enough over the course of the season after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed.

"The fans have been amazing and we have not given them enough to cheer about. "There is never a lack of effort or desire from our team, we have just lacked individual quality in front of their goal most of the season and we have given away too many sloppy goals. "It is a sad, sad day for everyone involved for the club," said the striker. "They have got dangerous players on the counter attack and they are going to make chances but we dealt with that most of the time. He added: "We haven't won enough matches, too many sloppy moments from individuals, including myself, and as a collective we have not been good enough. It is likely to mark the end of an era for many at Burnley with Tarkowski set to leave on a free transfer having opted to run his contract down.

The Clarets' home defeat to Newcastle on Sunday proved fatal.

“I understand you’ve got to ask the question but I don’t think that’s for now,” he said. You have to take small steps to get yourselves going again and I’m sure that’s what the club will try and do.” It’s about small steps, planning, and making sure you’ve got everything in place to be able to do that.”

Why Blackburn Rovers can take encouragement from Burnley's ... (Accrington Observer)

23 of the 24 teams involved in the 2022/23 Championship line-up have been confirmed.

In reality, the season will begin with over half a dozen teams realistically targetting the play-offs and Blackburn Rovers should be amongst them. They're under the stewardship of Rob Edwards, who will being an impressive young manager, is a relatively unknown quantity, particularly at this level. Outside of the Canaries, it is anyone's guess as to how Watford and Burnely will fare.

When was the last time Blackpool, Preston, Blackburn Rovers and ... (Blackpool Gazette)

Burnley's relegation from the Premier League means there will be four major Lancashire sides in the Championship next season.

The last time all four of those Lancashire clubs were in the same division was way back in the 1960/61 season. Burnley finished fourth in the First Division that year with Blackburn in eighth and Blackpool 20th. The Clarets now join their East Lancashire rivals Blackburn Rovers as well as Blackpool and Preston North End in the same division for the first time in more than 60 years.

Let's not get too much ahead of where we're now, though, and hand the last three Seahorse Awards of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign to the last that put on ...

So good, this New Newcastle, that even when faced with adversity and a potential dark spot entering the summer they still found a way to dodge another bullet. “Just a big thank you from me to them for everything they’ve given the team, the club. “I’m privileged to lead the team. Trips started on the right flank of the defensive line, logged the most touches of any and every Magpie on Sunday (74) by a mile (Bruno was second with “only” 60), and didn’t lose possession of the ball at all. He had a boot on, but said he was okay, so that’s great news.” “December was a very difficult month for us.” Then we suffered the low of Cambridge (in theFA Cup).” We don’t know about that yet as it seems Eddie Howe and the new owners have yet to sit with Targett and discuss their potential incorporation to the club on a full-time basis after getting to Tyneside on loan from Aston Villa last January. While others such as Jamaal Lascelles and Dan Burn got the bulkier stats on things such as clearances compared to Targett, the latter had the most important deflection/blocked-shot one as he prevented Burnley from tying the game in the last minutes of the match thanks to a goal-line header that saved the Magpies day for good. Wilson proved his worth for the Magpies and the absolutely perfect role he plays in Eddie Howe’s tactical scheme above the likes of Chris Wood upfront. Let’s not get too much ahead of where we’re now, though, and hand the last three Seahorse Awards of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign to the last that put on the best performances in the 1-2 win away at Burnley. In his first game fully fit and with the legs in their place, Wilson simply excelled. Ah, it’s going to be a couple of tough summer months without the Magpies in action, but thanks to the new board and last October’s takeover we should at least get some transfer-market entertainment.

Burnley's Premier League hangover could last years - no manager ... (Daily Mail)

The east Lancashire club was relegated on Sunday after losing 2-1 to Newcastle United at Turf Moor, while rivals Leeds United won 2-1 away at Brentford and ...

Someone from the ownership has to come out and say this is how we are going to manage it.’ If there is no budging [on the terms of repayment] it is clear what will happen,' added Plumley, who anticipates the £40M parachute payment in year one [after relegation] will have to fund that £65M loan repayment. Most clubs owe money to their owner, who is unlikely to call in the debt. Furthermore, up to 20 members of staff have gone from the business since ALK came in, sources previously told Sportsmail, including the chief executive. 'So, we're not going to do stupid stuff. 'They have got to find £65M quickly,' he said. But that is not the case now. 'There is the £65M repayment that will now be drawn upon. 'They have the assets to do that but it is going to impact on getting back up next season. There are good people here who want to do well and they want the club to bounce back but it is small steps and planning and making sure we have everything in place to do that.' Maguire believes the sale of players will be the key if the club is to stabilise in the Championship, but at the expense of promotion hopes. Burnley's Premier League hangover could last for years and see them headed straight for League One, just like Sunderland

Newcastle players showed class on pitch at full-time as Burnley ... (ChronicleLive)

Newcastle United's defence was once a weakness but the Magpies stood firm under pressure against Burnley as Eddie Howe's side relegated the Clarets on the ...

In fact, Newcastle players showed their class on the pitch at full-time, whether it was Jamaal Lascelles consoling fellow captain James Tarkowski; Kieran Trippier hugging Aaron Lennon; or Dan Burn going over to Jackson to shake his hand. They're away from home as well so it was difficult to try and break into that with what was happening." As Burnley poured forward, and left gaps, it was Wilson who doubled the visitors' advantage with that crucial second goal on the hour mark with a smart first-time finish.
