Mourinho is the first manager to win European titles at four different clubs, while Roma claim a first trophy on the continent since 1961.

Nevertheless, there was still a budget Europa League trophy to be won, and Wikipedia pages waiting to be updated. Rui Patrício superbly denied Lutsharel Geertruida to keep his side in front, while Chris Smalling repeatedly kept the competition’s top scorer, Cyriel Dessers, at bay. Huzzah! But alas, this was somewhat futile given Feyenoord and Roma had already qualified for Europe’s second-tier competition by way of their domestic finishes.

Roma 1-0 Feyenoord: Nicolo Zaniolo secures Europa Conference ... (Evening Standard)

Nicolo Zaniolo's first-half strike proved to be the winner as Roma beat Feyenoord 1-0 to become the inaugural Europa Conference League champions in Tirana.

Chris Smalling was in inspired form throughout, throwing himself in front of a Kokcu shot and seemingly getting on the end of every Feyenoord cross into the box. Gianluca Mancini swung in a superb cross from deep, Trauner misjudged the flight of the ball and Zaniolo was waiting behind to chest it down and then flick a lovely finish over the goalkeeper. Marcos Senesi tried to let the ball run through to his goalkeeper, allowing Abraham to pounce and he looked to be clean through as the defender pulled his arm back.

Roma 1-0 Feyenoord: Zaniolo strike wins the first Europa ... (UEFA.com)

Nicolò Zaniolo made the difference as Roma clinched their first major UEFA club competition title by winning the 2021/22 UEFA Europa Conference League.

The Giallorossi lifted the trophy as Mourinho once again delivered in a final and became the first coach to win the Europa Conference League, the Europa League and the Champions League. In the second half, we had more possession and opportunities. Chris Smalling, Roma defender: "We knew how much it would mean to everyone in Rome and you can see how together we are until the end. We struggled in the second half; our opponents played well and they forced us to make defensive changes." Arne Slot, Feyenoord coach: "I told the players during the break what they had to do better. Roma won their first ever UEFA trophy, the first ever edition of the Europa Conference League, and did so by taking their best chance, holding firm at the back and keeping that vital clean sheet. Rui Patrício made a magnificent save in the second half which made a big difference in the game. Let's be honest, they were the better team, but Feyenoord had a decent campaign. However, as Feyenoord piled on the pressure, a now compact Roma side dropped deep. How different things may have been if they'd managed to play with such intensity before the break as well. Roma made the first meaningful advance, but Nicolò Zaniolo's outstretched leg was a whisker away from a cute Lorenzo Pellegrini through ball. It was a cagey opening in Tirana, as both sides cautiously probed and looked to test their opponents' mettle.

Remembering Dino Da Costa, European winner with Fiorentina and ... (Viola Nation)

As Roma play the Conference final, a look at a player who won European trophies with Fiorentina and Roma, in one season.

That is the story of Dino Da Costa, the man who won two European trophies in one season with two different clubs. That game before the final against Venezia turned out to be Da Costa’s last game for Roma, as he was sold to Atalanta shortly afterwards. On January 12th Da Costa scored in a 4-1 win for Roma over Juventus, and three days later he was lining out at Windsor Park in Belfast as Italy took on Northern Ireland in a crucial World Cup qualifier. That turned out to be Dino’s last game for Atalanta, and he would soon be joining up with Sivori when Juventus signed him for the following season. That former Roma target and opponent with Hibs, Joe Baker, scored a hat-trick for Torino, but his brother Gerry scored one of the City goals which gave them a 4-3 win. In the semi-final, Fiorentina hosted Juventus, with Da Costa scoring the final goal in a 3-1 win to see the Viola reach the final. That wasn’t the end of his Fiorentina adventure however, as a week later in the final of the Coppa Italia they would face Lazio in Florence. After Gianfranco Petris gave Fiorentina an early lead, the game failed to provide much more in the way of entertainment. Former Fiorentina player Lojacono had missed that game as he was expected to sign for Milan shortly and the club were unwilling to risk an injury. Once the Coppa delle Alpi was out of the way, Dino Da Costa was on his way back to Roma. Although we had now reached the 1961/62 season, the final of the previous season’s Fairs Cup had yet to be played. Fiorentina were drawn to meet Young Boys, and in the first game in Berne they suffered a 3-2 defeat, which would turn out to be the only loss by an Italian side in the competition. The forward made an immediate impact, scoring on his Serie A debut, and he also scored against Fiorentina in a 1-1 draw at the end of April. A week later Fiorentina were league champions for the first time. Tonight, Roma return to compete in a European final after 31 years, and the new Europa Conference League competition is where Fiorentina will compete next season.

Jose Mourinho is aiming to extend his perfect record in the European finals. Roma's last European trophy was the Fairs Cup over six decades ago in 1961. More ...

The English striker has enjoyed a sensational campaign, scoring 27 goals in all competitions, including a brace on the final day of the Serie A season against Torino to seal Roma's Europa League qualification ahead of city rivals Lazio. Six years later, Mourinho clinched his second UCL trophy with Inter Milan in 2010 and guided Manchester United to the Europa League glory in 2017. The former Real Madrid boss has won all four of his finals - two with Porto and one each with Inter Milan and Manchester United and is the first manager to lead four teams in a European final. Though not as competitive and glamorous as UEFA's other two competitions, the impact of the Conference League title would be as big as a Champions League crown for the Giallorossi, whose last European trophy was the Fairs Cup - the predecessor to the UEFA Cup/Europa League - over six decades ago in 1961. Meanwhile, Feyenoord would be aiming to win their first European final since winning the 2002 UEFA Cup. The Arne Slot-managed side finished third in the Dutch Eredivisie and head into the game with Conference League's leading scorer in Cyriel Dessers with 10 goals in their ranks. But before the deal was finalised, both Roma and Mourinho agreed that in order to succeed, the team needs to go through the process of rebuilding.

It's the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League final as Roma face Feyenoord in tonight's final at the Air Albania Stadium in Tirana.

Abraham has 21 goals for the Italian side already this season - can he finish the campaign in style by adding to that tally? Big news for Feyenoord is that goalkeeper and captain Bijlow is fit and he makes an immediate return to the starting XI. This will be Nelson’s final game before his loan spell ends at the club and he returns to Arsenal in the summer. Mkhitaryan is fit to start for Roma and he comes in to replace Oliveira in the team. Tammy Abraham scored in the 11th minute of the second leg and that was enough to send his side to Albania. Job. Done. A goalless draw was enough for the Dutch side to go through and earn a place in their first European final for 20 years. For Feyenoord, a 0-0 draw in Marseille did the job after they won 3-2 at home and they’ll be looking to mark the 20th anniversary of the club’s UEFA Cup success with another trophy to add to the cabinet.
