Julian Alvarez: Everything you need to know about Manchester ... (Sky Sports)

Alvarez completed a £14m move to Man City in January but stayed at River Plate; the Argentine striker will link up with the Premier League champions later ...

He could be with us right now but we have so many players in that position so the best for him is to stay in River Plate. Alvarez now plays up front for River but he is not an out-and-out striker like Aguero. In fact, he is similarly effective off the right and spent his younger years operating as winger. He was almost like an English Kenny Dalglish. Alvarez has some of those similar attributes, he's wonderful at taking the ball on the half turn, playing the pass and moving into position. But there's real ability there and his movement is quick but his mind is quicker. But we are really pleased to have this talented young player for the next years." Alvarez has a hammer of a right foot, generating impressive power with minimal back-lift, but he is by no means one-footed. He's been brought along really carefully by the River Plate coach Marcelo Gallardo. Then we will decide what happens because in every pre-season, the squads move. Alvarez was given the No 9 shirt and handed his debut in October 2018. There was even a goal with his head. Just imagine if him and Haaland both hit purple patches for City this season... Barcelona were not among those who were interested."

On-loan Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez scores SIX in one ... (Daily Mail)

River Plate ran out 8-1 winners against Alianza Lima with Alvarez proving why he was one of the most sought after young strikers on the planet.

The Argentine picked the ball up with his back to goal around 30-yards from the target. Spotting space, he jinked inside one player before darting round another and unleashing a rasping left-footed drive beyond the helpless goalkeeper. Spotting an opportunity to win the ball, Alvarez dropped in and intercepted a pass. His finish across the goal capped off an all-round superb piece of play. The night had not yet reached the hour mark. There are none bigger, however, in South America than the Libertadores and Alvarez's performance immediately writes him into River Plate folklore.
