Djed Spence has called out his former Middlesbrough boss Neil Warnock on Twitter after Nottingham Forest's Championship play-off final victory yesterday.

Spence took to Twitter during the celebrations to call out Neil Warnock – who has recently joined the social media platform – by sending a photo from inside the Wembley dressing room of him next to the promotion trophy and wearing his medal. Warnock has previously suggested that he sent the defender away on loan to “sort himself out” and judging by the Boro loanee’s reaction after the play-off final win, he felt like he had something to prove to the seasoned coach. The 21-year-old is a Boro player but was deemed excess to requirements by Warnock last summer while he was in charge at the Riverside.

It is easy to see why he has caught the eye and why he is so highly thought of by his manager. He is laid back, that is probably the right description of him. He played an impressive if unspectacular game in London on Sunday too in what could be his final audition for Mikel Arteta and Antonio Conte.

And Spence has welcomed the legendary boss to the platform in brutal fashion, by calling out his former boss while smoking a cigar. I basically said to him that you can go to the top or you can go non-league.

Tottenham Hotspur are favourites to sign Djed Spence this summer, reports Sunday Mirror (29.05.22, pg. 76, via HITC).

Spence certainly looks to have a bright summer and a bright career ahead, with a move to Spurs looking ever-likely. But it seems like Antonio Conte’s Spurs are set to spend big in the summer, meaning a move for Spence looks more likely. Either way, Spence looks set to be playing in the top flight next season, with Middlesbrough looking resigned to lose the right-back.

The post could also be in response to Warnock’s past comments about Spence’s attitude. This may have played a part in Spence’s recent post on his Twitter page as he aimed a jibe at Warnock directly. Whilst top European sides Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and Roma are also reportedly keen.

Meanwhile, Spurs appear to be closing in on their first signing of the window under Antonio Conte. It has been reported that they have agreed a deal to sign Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, with his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign. His rise has certainly been meteoric - and somewhat surprising considering that parent club Middlesbrough were happy to loan him out at the start of the season. Key to their promotion charge this term has been the on-loan Spence.

Djed Spence had aimed a dig at former Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock after winning Premier League promotion.

Having extended Spence's contract before allowing him to re-join Forest, and re-negotiating the terms of the loan deal to financially benefit Boro better, they are now set to land an eight-figure fee for him in the summer transfer window. Neil Warnock had a brilliant response to Djed Spence after the defender's dig at the former Middlesbrough boss. That was a major reason why the former Boro boss ultimately axed the defender last summer.
