LTA publishes landmark Environmental Sustainability Plan for tennis ... (Lawn Tennis Association)

The climate crisis, resource scarcity and changes to the natural environment represent global challenges but will have an impact on tennis in Britain at all ...

We have made it clear that everyone has a role to play if the sport is achieve its environmental sustainability ambitions, and there are practical actions that we can all take to have an impact, however big or small. “This will necessarily be a long-term plan but we know that changes to climate and our environment are the most significant concern for younger generations. The climate crisis, resource scarcity and changes to the natural environment represent global challenges but will have an impact on tennis in Britain at all levels. “We are pleased that the LTA has signed up to the UN Sports for Climate Action movement and the collective Race to Zero. Everyone has a role to play, so we applaud their plans to reduce their own climate impacts, and also their ambition to support the venues, volunteers, coaches and players involved in tennis in Britain, to make a difference together.” We will therefore take steps to reduce its own direct impacts from its operations and major events, but also support the wider tennis community to be more sustainable in its role as national governing body for tennis in Britain. Doing so will not only have a positive impact far beyond our own operations, but also most effectively support tennis in Britain in the face of rising energy costs, and changes to the environment. We believe that to deliver its vision of ‘Tennis Opened Up’ it has an important role to play in contributing to a healthier and a more sustainable society, and to grow tennis in Britain in a responsible way, protecting and supporting the environment and tackling our climate impacts.

LTA to celebrate Pride Month with 'Friday Pride Days' at summer ... (Lawn Tennis Association)

We have announced that Fridays at each of its major grass court events this month will become 'Friday Pride Days' in celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Month.

Speaking about the Pride Month celebrations, Dave Hardman, the LTA’s Inclusion Development Manager, said: “It’s important for everyone to be able to feel like they can be their authentic self, and so we want to ensure we use our high-profile summer tennis events this month to demonstrate that tennis is a sport where everyone can feel accepted and welcomed. It needs all of us who love tennis to help make people feel like our sport is one for them, and so it’s great the LTA is helping to do that through Friday Pride Days this summer”. The Pride Month celebrations build on the launch at the LTA’s National Tennis Centre earlier this year of Pride in Tennis, the LGBTQ+ network for Tennis in Britain, and representatives from the network will be helping the LTA celebrate Pride Month.

French Open director Amelie Mauresmo: Women's matches are less ... (The Washington Post)

PARIS — For 30 weeks in 2006, Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo was ranked No. 1 in the world, a champion of that year's Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Mauresmo also expanded women’s role in tennis as coach of former No. 1 Andy Murray for a time. “ When you have this — it’s an interesting one, because as I was saying, the fact that it’s right now a one-match night session is tough on this. Serena Williams, the sport’s 23-time Grand Slam champion, hasn’t competed in 11 months, not since her first-round loss at Wimbledon last year. Appeal? — for the men’s matches,” Mauresmo said, asked about the gender imbalance in the scheduling of the feature night match on Court Philippe-Chatrier. “My goal was when I was doing the schedule every day to try and see, and from the first rounds, from the first round, when the draw came out, to try and see what match in the woman's draw can I put there, honestly,” she said. “The confrontation or the star that I could put there.

Amelie Mauresmo bemoans appeal of women's tennis in flimsy ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

Mauresmo said there was 'more attraction' to men's matches when trying to explain the lop-sided scheduling.

“Obviously it's not simple,” said Mauresmo, in the first of many vague answers on this subject on Wednesday. “It's the first year that I'm the tournament director. “If we continue with these night sessions, people need to leave the stadium late enough and make sure that they have a way to come back home. I'm learning a lot of things regarding the scheduling of the tournament. We haven't planned anything yet, but obviously we need to organise ourselves differently with bus systems, with the underground system. The organisers have agreed on a start time of 8.45pm local time, but this became predictably problematic when Nadal and Djokovic set out on one of their four-hour epics. But former Wimbledon champion Mauresmo was also queried about the one-sided scheduling throughout this event, in which only one out of the 10 night-session matches was played by women.
