Solihull Moors 1-2 Grimsby Town (AET): Mariners seal EFL return ... (Sky Sports)

Goals from John McAtee and Jordan Maguire-Drew secured promotion for the Mariners after Kyle Hudlin had given Moors the lead just before half-time.

"It's the play-offs, that's what it's about. "I knew the final would come down to small margins. It's a final and that's what the play-offs are all about. Credit to them and Paul Hurst, he's a great guy. "Unfortunately they got the momentum and won it. "It's somehow meant to be. You look at their winning goal, it came off our man's head to the back post. And it's a sub who gets the winning goal. "Grimsby did a good job on us. As the game headed into extra time, both sides looked for a winner and it was Grimsby who eventually made the breakthrough in the 111th minute. I just had to remind them of what they've done. Solihull Moors boss Neal Ardley speaking to BT Sport: "Listen both teams had loads of chances.

As we entered the final 10 minutes of extra-time, Cropper's long throw was flicked on by a Solihull head and Maguire-Drew pounced at the back post to put the Mariners ahead. After riding the wave of pressure, Grimsby Town replied and could have won the match with minutes remaining. Those missed chances and unheard penalty shouts were compounded when Solihull took the lead on the stroke of half-time. Despite that warning on the counter-attack, the Mariners continued to dominate. Even the most optimistic Grimsby Town fan would have predicted promotion at the first time of asking. Extra-time brought weary legs and a drop in tempo but the Mariners produced one more moment of magic.

Grimsby Town promoted back to EFL (The Non-League Football Paper)

The relentless Mariners went the 120-minute distance for the third time in this season's play-offs, coming back from behind to beat Solihull Moors 2-1.

“I told the players that there was always going to be a winner and loser in the game and there is more to life than winning and losing. You know the importance of it and I don’t think that has changed over time. I thought it was going to go just past the post. They deserved it, they went through three lots of extra-time.” Let’s be honest, it got a bit messy towards the end but I don’t really care at the minute.” Extra-time did not live up to the pulsating 90 minutes that had preceded it but the belief of Hurst’s men and the huge support behind them was never shaken and in swept Maguire-Drew to force home the winner from a long throw nine minutes from the end.
