Gareth Bale and Wales booked Europe's final ticket to Qatar and will now face the U.S. in their opening match Nov. 21.
Republic of Ireland followed by a match against Armenia and then a second date with the Irish. It had made a run to the semifinals at Euro 2016 before losing to eventual champion Portugal. But the true star of the match was Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey, who made nine saves to keep a clean sheet.
The Dragons were the last of the 13 European teams to qualify for this year's tournament in Qatar.
But World Cup preparation has been hit by problems with planned games against Canada and South Africa cancelled. The US are 15th in the FIFA world rankings, only three places above Wales. The two home nations meet in the final round of fixtures on November 29.
Wayne Hennessey and Danny Ward, the two goalkeepers vying to be No 1, played 270 Premier League minutes between them. Joe Rodon played 86 minutes for Tottenham.
And so Ben Davies is the emblem of this squad, certainly more than Ramsey and arguably more than Bale too. Brennan Johnson may prefer to sign a new contract at Nottingham Forest and start every week in the Premier League. There is still the unhelpful issue of the managerial position; Ryan Giggs’ trial has been delayed until August due to a lack of court space. Until 2015, Wales’ modern history had been a statue to unrequited ambition, sculpted by a team of master craftsmen led by Paul Bodin, who missed the penalty that could have taken them to USA 94. Bale only started half of the pre-playoff qualifiers and only scored three times. In each of them, history offered reason for doubt and fear. Between Austria in the semi-final and Ukraine in the play-off final, some of Robert Page’s most important cogs were barely part of a machine at all.
The Welsh earned their first World Cup berth since 1958 with a 1-0 victory over Ukraine in Cardiff on Sunday, with an Andriy Yarmolenko own goal the difference ...
Ukraine handily defeated Scotland on Wednesday to advance to the playoff in Wales, and for long stretches of the first half it appeared as though they'd also take control of Sunday's match. As such, Yarmolenko's own goal stood as the only marker of the match, propelling Wales into the World Cup for the first time this century. Wales came out stronger in the second half, forcing a couple of good saves out of Bushchan and hitting the post, but it was Wayne Hennessey who was the far busier of the two goalkeepers as Ukraine pressed forward in search of an equalizer.

Qatar World Cup matches have four kick-off times, both England and Wales have a Friday fixture, their games will be shown on BBC and ITV.
The final, held in Doha on Sunday December 18, kicks off at 3pm. The action kicks off on Monday November 21, 2022. The semi-finals kick off at 7pm. Gareth Bale's deflected free-kick sent Robert Page's men to Qatar, where they will take on Iran, the USA and next-door neighbours England in the group stage. That kicks off at 7pm and will be shown on ITV. The third group stage games will kick off at 3pm and 7pm, as will all knockout games.
An own goal from Andriy Yarmolenko gave Wales a 1-0 playoff win over Ukraine that sends them to their first men's World Cup since 1958.
Ramsey was also guilty of missing a wonderful opening early in the second half, placing his shot wide after collecting Kieffer Moore’s centre. From the moment Zinchenko had a quick free-kick disallowed on three minutes, they panicked Wales and the midfielder Ruslan Malinovskyi picked holes in the home defence. The defender made a block with 15 minutes to play when Yarmolenko side-footed the ball goalwards after Ukraine scooped the ball into the box. Connor Roberts collapsed to the floor and repeatedly punched the air in a state of disbelief. After a glossary of painful near-misses, Wales will again play on the world stage after edging out Ukraine in a nail-biting and fraught playoff final. Ukraine’s players displayed a flag scribbled with handwritten messages from soldiers in their dressing room.

The World Cup draw has been completed, with teams learning their fates for the group stages at Qatar 2022.
‘Gareth will look at that and think it could have been a lot more difficult than its actually come out. The USA are an interesting one. ‘When you’re seeded you get the advantage of missing out on those big six or seven teams.
Wales beat Ukraine 1-0 in the European World Cup qualifying playoff in Cardiff on Sunday to qualify for the World Cup finals for the first time in 64 years.
It was against the run of play then when Wales grabbed the lead in the 34th minute, Bale fired a low free-kick from 25 metres out and Yarmolenko's stooping, attempted header clear, flew into the net past the helpless Georgiy Bushchan. Hennessey did well to deny Roman Yaremchuk after he found himself clear on goal and then the Wales keeper was alert to get down to a dangerous Zinchenko drive and then to smother the ball at the feet of Viktor Tsygankov. Wales ended its 64-year wait for a place in the World Cup finals as it beat Ukraine 1-0 on Sunday to end the war-torn nation's hopes of reaching Qatar.
