"This move was no reflection on our good feelings towards playing in the Montgomeryshire League and hopefully our hosting of the league cup final will be a fitting farewell from us." "We thank both national associations for their time and consideration of our application as well as the Shropshire FA for their offer of participation. A club statement read: "The club have received a promising update from the FAW on behalf of them and the FA to say that our application to play in a cross border competition was not required and we do not have to obtain further permission from UEFA and FIFA.

‘It’s the coaches, referees, presenters, social-media influencers – anyone that young girls look at and think, “I want to do that when I’m older”. The tournament brings an opportunity for everyone to see different pathways for themselves.’ Reliving its impact in the first episode of the Sky Sports show The HangOUT, with American captain Megan Rapinoe, Eriksson and Harder discuss how normalising positive gay stories creates a more welcoming place in sport. Stokes, one of the England Women players of colour, believes it’s still important to do so. ‘From my personal view, [women’s football has] been an inclusive and open environment and I want to spread that,’ says Eriksson, who has become an outspoken LGBTQ+ advocate with Harder after their on-pitch kiss at the 2019 World Cup went viral. That same month, a record-breaking 91,553 spectators watched Barcelona Women’s take on Real Madrid Women’s in the Champions League quarter-final at the Nou Camp – and that record has since been broken again. Likewise, Nike continues to drive development and funding within the women’s game and its burgeoning community, and by pushing for equity in the sport. All of the elite players on the shoot today stress the importance of grassroots football; reminiscing about discovering the sport in that carefree team environment, playing with boys first before breaking through when someone spotted their talent. While men’s international football peaked in 1966 when England won the Fifa World Cup, women’s football started to find its feet in the 1990s and was the top participation sport in England for girls and women by 2002. Such era-defining moments will surely be recreated this summer when England players Bronze, Mead, Wubben-Moy and Stokes play in stadiums up and down the country. This led Nike to invest in the England football kit for the Euros this summer, ensuring innovative new designs that embodied the female athlete: new contours for motion, sweat maps and rib lines to push mobility. ‘If you give us the same access to the best facilities, good pitches and the same sports science, with more research on women’s bodies… ‘People always talk about money but, for me, it’s the resources that we get,’ says Bronze, who is the most decorated English footballer in the women’s game, and is heralded as one of the top players in the world.

Letter: Some coaches lack the empathy required to deal with young players, says Stephen Woods.
Some have played since the age of six or seven in local clubs, while others have played only a handful of matches by the age of 10 or 11, so are at a huge disadvantage, regardless of inherent ability. Whereas most boys will, by an early age, have played a significant number of hours in the park, the playground or the street, girls predominantly rely on structured playing opportunities to develop. The lucky few are pulled to one side while the rest trudge off the pitch dejected, feeling wrongly that they have let themselves and their families down.

DANIEL DAVIS: Furious users accused the self-styled 'real money virtual stock market' of being a Ponzi scheme, and the UK Gambling Commission has been ...
Football Index enjoyed a significant presence in the public eye before their collapse. Consumers staking money on gambling is not the same as their placing money into other things, such as savings products. We have heard today anger and frustration about the genuine hardship - both financial and, of course, mental - caused by the collapse. Again, though, this idea was rejected. 'With regard to compensation, as I have said, there are procedures that we cannot move from,' he said. Government minister Nigel Huddleston has said it would not be appropriate for public funds to be used to compensate the users of Football Index, the online gambling platform which collapsed last year and left thousands of its customers with staggering financial losses.

“And furthermore the Gambling Commission does not have any statutory powers which would enable it to offer redress for losses suffered as a result of a gambling operator collapsing.” He added: “We do not think it would be appropriate for the Government to use public funds to cover losses to individuals resulting from the collapse of a gambling company. The company was not a Ponzi scheme, according to the Gambling Commission, because it "did not need to rely on new customers to meet its obligations."

Blackburn Rovers appoint Gregg Broughton as their new director of football, ahead of the appointment of a new head coach.
"It is great to appoint a person with the wide-ranging spectrum of skills, knowledge and experience that Gregg has acquired over the last 20 years in football," chief executive Steve Waggott said. Mowbray left Rovers after five years with the club, during which he led them to promotion back to the Championship from League One as well as an eighth-placed finish last term. "The club has a prestigious history going back to the foundation of the Football League, with over 70 years in the top flight and a great standing within the local community.

With a number of issues for the club to address behind the scenes from a football perspective, it is good for them to have someone who can directly focus on that side of the club. That is a role they have now filled, with the announcement that Broughton is set to become the club’s sporting director with immediate effect. Along with their search for a new manager, which remains ongoing after the departure of Tony Mowbray at the end of the 2021/22 season, the club have been on the lookout for a new director to handle the behind the scenes football business.
A Westminster debate on the collapse of Football Index has criticised the Gambling Commission's choice to licence the product.

And one reason why Sky Sports' Monday Night Football is a compelling watch is Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher's ability to cut through peripheral claptrap and grasp any nettles in the meadow. If Harry Kane was not offside when he was fouled, leading to England's late equaliser from the penalty spot, any chance of somebody explaining why not? But the studio analysis from Munich on Tuesday night fell short.
Nintendo's Mario fires up his aggression for his third and best outing on the football pitch, in what is a surprisingly involved footy sim.
It’s just disappointing that, once again, the longevity of a Mario sports title hinges on Nintendo’s ability to flesh out the package over the coming months. This might be seen as a negative depending on your expectations, but the trade-off is the most balanced, nuanced and outright enjoyable Mario Strikers yet. Combined with items like green shells, the learning curve is uncharacteristically high for a Mario sports title. The only other mode is Strikers Club, which was largely inactive in the review period as the online season begins at launch. Find a vantage point to charge a perfect shot and use them as clearance if anyone approaches. When you kick into a Hyper Strike, after picking up an orb and executing a minor mini-game with an oscillating meter, a cut scene launches with the scratchy art style of the cover. If you’re unfamiliar with Mario Strikers, this is a five-on-five football sim with most of the rules stripped out and Mushroom Kingdom violence switched on. With its speed and aggression, it feels closer to ice hockey most of the time – especially as the pitch is walled off with electric fences. As such, Mario Strikers: Battle League Football, a sequel to 2007’s Mario Strikers Charged on the Wii, might be approached with some hesitancy in 2022. When you first boot up Mario Strikers, there’s eight rounds of tutorials you’re encouraged to play through, covering basic movement, shooting, dodges, and charged-up tackles. Every character has a level of personality that goes well beyond any previous Mario sports title. The soundtrack of matches is punctuated with the yelps, cries, and zapped bodies of your clobbered teammates.
I'd been looking forward to Mario Strikers: Battle League Football because of the chaotic fun I remember having with Ma…
Become a supporter of Eurogamer and you can view the site completely ad-free, as well as gaining exclusive access to articles, podcasts and conversations that will bring you closer to the team, the stories, and the games we all love. And already, there's suggestion the game will recieve a roster of post-launch updates with more characters to follow. With fewer and weaker items than Charged and no Super Abilities at all, much of your time is spent slamming or skidding into opponents to wrestle control of the ball or pre-emptively take other players out. Gone are the days where a windy stadium could see a cow blown across the pitch, blocking play in the middle of a hurricane. Alongside enhancing the designs of these characters with distinctly un-football-like armour that's more NFL than Premier League, gear can also be used to plug the gaps in some stats and smooth things over so, actually, your Toad can pack a punch if you so desire. But I don't really play Mario Strikers for football, in the same way I don't really play Rocket League for football either.
Mario Strikers: Battle League Football is the latest football game in the Mushroom Kingdom universe. Here are our thoughts.
However, the lack of fleshed-out single player modes is a big disappointment, and so is only really worth the outlay if you’re willing to engage with the online multiplayer. Mario Strikers: Battle League shines the brightest during the multiplayer mode, allowing you to create your own club and team up with friends to take out opponents. Cup Battles offers you the chance to fill out your trophy room, but the difficulty is extremely low and you can reach the final of each tournament by playing just two matches. I’m a huge fan of the Mario Strikers: Battle League gameplay, with matches generally resulting in thrilling goalfests – you’re rarely going to see any boring 0-0 scorelines here. Matches start with a dramatic view of the stadium, with a cheering crowd giving it a lively atmosphere that could rival even Barcelona’s Camp Nou. Up to eight players (4 on each team) are able to play on a single system. I really appreciated this level of depth, allowing you to meddle with the balance of your team as if you were a real life football manager. Nintendo does at least offer you the option to turn off items for Quick Battles and Multiplayer, but you’re going to have to put up with them when playing through the single-player Cup Battles. I don’t personally mind this feature as it requires you to power up the move without being tackled which is incredibly difficult against a skilled opponent. Mario Strikers: Battle League is the third instalment in the series, following on from the GameCube original and the Charged sequel on Wii. But how does the new Switch entry hold up against its predecessors? These include Mario Kart favourites such as green shells, red shells, exploding Bob-oms, banana skins and even the Super Star which makes you temporarily invulnerable to tackles. But a stingy offering of single-player modes mean that this is only really worthwhile for those wanting to dive into online multiplayer.
Mario Strikers: Battle League Football is the latest sports spin-off for Nintendo's mascot. Here's what we thought of its gameplay, muliplayer and more.
Unique characters such as Mario, Luigi, Bowser and Princess Peach can all play to their strengths, with a fair balance of characters between the initial roster. Between items, players and power ups it can be difficult to follow the ball on occasion. Mario strikers battle league football is a combat sport game that sees two teams of five battle it out on the pitch. But does Battle League Football live up to Nintendo fans lofty expectations of its unique multiplayer and fast-paced action? Originally released on the Gamecube in 2007, Battle League Football is a stylistic continuation of one of Mario’s most underappreciated spin-offs. Mario Strikers: Battle League Football is one of the most anticipated Nintendo Switch games to come out this summer.

Niall Couper, CEO of Fair Game, said: “The index is essential. There are many different reporting approaches in the top four divisions and a lack of transparency. But the index is not just about distribution for distribution’s sake. He said: “The findings are stark. Most Championship sides would see a rise in their revenue of £6.3 million. “The uplift for League One sides would be £5.1m and for League Two sides £2.7m. National League sides and the sides in the Women’s top two divisions would receive new direct payments for the first time.”
