Download Festival is a British rock festival that was founded in 2003 as something of a followup to the Monsters of Rock festivals that had been held between 1980 and 1996 at Donington Park, which Download describes as “the spiritual home of rock”. “The man became unwell at the festival on Saturday evening (11 June) and was taken to the Derby Royal Infirmary where he sadly died. A man has died following a medical incident at Download Festival over the weekend, with police investigating the circumstances.

‘The man became unwell at the festival on Saturday evening (June 11) and was taken to the Derby Royal Infirmary where he sadly died. Emergency services attended to him at the scene and he was taken to the Derby Royal Infirmary before later being pronounced dead. He is thought to have fallen ill before Iron Maiden took to the stage at 9pm on Saturday, before being carried out from the crowd by medics.

A man has been pronounced dead at Derby Royal Infirmary after "becoming unwell" at this year's edition of Download Festival in Leicestershire.

In 2003, the first edition of Download was created by Stuart Galbraith, the founder of Kilimanjaro Live Group, one of the country’s largest event promoters. Download Festival was created as a follow-up to the historic Monsters of Rock festival which was held at Donington Park circuit between 1980 and 1996. According to reports, eyewitnesses gave accounts of the incident, which happened while thousands of festivalgoers began singing and jumping to the headliners.
