Jon Dahl Tomasson: 'An exciting new chapter' for Blackburn Rovers (Lancashire Telegraph)

Jon Dahl Tomasson is 'proud and excited' after being named as Rovers head coach on a three-year deal.

During his time with the Swedish club, Rosen also spent four years working alongside Tomasson as head fitness coach of the Denmark national team and arrives at Rovers after a two-year spell as head of fitness and conditioning at FC Copenhagen. He started his coaching career at Southampton, where he worked his way up to be first-team lead sport scientist/strength and conditioning coach, before spending six years as head of fitness at Malmo under Tomasson. Reijnierse has since worked as an assistant manager to Jos Luhukay at VfB Stuttgart and in the Championship with Sheffield Wednesday, spending two years at Hillsborough prior to linking up with Rovers’ new head coach in Sweden. “For a head coach, the best thing is to work with the players and the staff, to show a direction and to work together to create an environment for the staff and the players to be successful, because at the end of the day it’s about being successful, winning as many games as possible and also develop the players, the team and the club in a positive direction.” Of his appointment at Rovers, Tomasson said: “I’m really proud and excited to be taking over as head coach of Blackburn Rovers – a club with a lot of tradition and also great ambition.” He spent time mangaing Netherlands Under-18s and Under-20s sides, before a successful spell as assistant head coach of the Netherlands Under-21s side, who won the 2006 and 2007 European Championships.

She added: “It suited Malmo who wants to be taken seriously and be seen as a big club. Of how his appointment will be viewed in Sweden, Fagerlund said: “They might be surprised it’s the Championship but not that it’s a big job. “Two league titles, reaching the group stage of Champions League in 2021 and showing a genuine interest in the whole club and its academy makes him one of the greatest. “He isn’t the biggest and most famous coach in Denmark but he can make great results which he has shown as an assistant coach with the Danish national team and in Malmo. “During his last year he relied way more on his older players – to be fair the whole squad is quite aged – but because MFF have the biggest budget in the Swedish league it’s always going to be tough for younger talents to establish themselves in the starting line-ups.” Christian Kjaer, of TV2Sport, is among those working on the Tomasson story, and told the Lancashire Telegraph: “In Denmark we see Blackburn Rovers as a club with great British traditions.
