A subsequent bid was rejected but a compromise was reached on Friday which is likely to see Mane, who is believed to have agreed a three-year contract with the German club, replace Robert Lewandowski, who has expressed a desire to leave. That leaves Salah, who is also in the final 12 months of his contract, as the only remaining member of manager Jurgen Klopp’s famed front three likely to be guaranteed a regular start with Firmino, 31 in October, likely to play out the final year of his contact without a renewal. With the 30-year-old in the final year of his contract and expressing a desire to leave, the Reds signed Benfica striker Darwin Nunez this week in a potential club-record £85m transfer.

Liverpool have accepted Bayern Munich's latest offer for Sadio Mané and the forward is due to have a medical before signing a three-year contract.

Núñez is the most high-profile of Liverpool’s summer signings but two other players are joining Jürgen Klopp’s squad. Mané started 32 of Liverpool’s Premier League games in the 2021-22 season and 11 of their 13 Champions League fixtures. Bayern are paying a guaranteed £28m and the fee could reach £35m with add-ons.

His overall total of 120 puts him 14th in Liverpool's all-time scoring charts. Mane was, after all, Klopp's first major signing. It has been that way ever since the Egyptian's arrival, a year after his, in 2017. It is a familiar dynamic.

Another £2.5m could be paid based on individual and team achievements. Liverpool have agreed to sell Mane to Bayern Munich after rejecting two bids from the German champions earlier in the month. Sadio Mane edges closer to Liverpool exit as Bayern Munich fly in ... (Liverpool Echo)

The ECHO understands Liverpool are set to hold fresh talks with Bayern Munich regarding a transfer for Sadio Mane.

Liverpool are holding out for a deal worth closer to £42.5m for Mane. He has one year left on his contract at Anfield but it has become apparent he wishes to move on having not engaged in talks over an extension. But while a third bid has not yet been placed, it seems only a matter of time before a suitable offer for the 30-year-old is lodged after a Bayern delegation, including their sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, flew to England. The ECHO understands face-to-face talks with the Reds are scheduled to take place on Friday and heading into the weekend in an attempt to thrash out a deal. However, with that bid only worth an initial £23.5m, and with Liverpool only standing to bank the full total if Bayern won the Champions League in all three of the seasons they want Mane to sign up for, as well as the player winning the Ballon d'Or for three consecutive years, club bosses were left bemused and considered such clauses as laughable.

Sadio Mane will leave Liverpool for the Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich after six years at Anfield.

From those add-ons, Liverpool will pocket €6m (£5.1m) based on appearances with the remaining €3m (£2.6m) based on individual and team achievements. The fee eclipses what the Reds paid Southampton for the forward back in 2016, with that deal proving to be worth £31m with a further £2.5m in add-ins. The ECHO understands the overall package is worth just over £35m after the clubs agreed a €41m deal for the Senegalese. The Reds will receive a fixed fee of €32m (£27.4m) with a further €9m (£7.7m) in add-ons.

It is a tactic that has not yet born fruit for any of the club's succession of managers since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. He said: “Growing up, I remember looking at Man United and thinking what it would be like to be them going for league titles every year, Champions League trophies every year. His tender years would not only allow him to pick up the mantle left behind by Mane but also play a pivotal role in the Reds’ attack for a number of years to come. They moved to sign Mane’s potential replacement in the January transfer window with the arrival of FC Porto star Luis Diaz.

Sadio Mane ready to ignore Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool advice and ... (Daily Express)

JURGEN KLOPP has seen his advice ignored by Sadio Mane as he closes in on a move to Bayern Munich.

Like the Coutinho saga, Liverpool do not want to lose one their man, but they received the third biggest fee of all time for the Brazilian, and they're being paid well for Mane too. But in Europe it could be a very different story, although that may not be his drive. Mane expressed a desire to start a 'new challenge' after Liverpool lost in the Champions League final to Real Madrid, and his wishes should be respected. Coutinho is the other high profile star to break away from Klopp's journey, and unfortunately for the Brazilian he left prematurely and missed out on every single trophy possible. But Mane leaves the club knowing how it turned out for Philippe Coutinho after he was warned by Klopp. Bayern Munich look set to finally meet Liverpool's £42.5million valuation for Sadio Mane, which means his days at the club are numbered.

Mane departs as a Liverpool legend, with the club's blessing and deepest gratitude. You can also catch up with the ins, outs and analysis on Sky Sports News. The emotional bond for the trio within the squad, among staff and with the fanbase would also increase the difficulty of rejuvenation. A big sale would have neatly funded Liverpool's next phase, much like Philippe Coutinho's exit to Camp Nou had done. The Salah situation is the next conundrum to navigate, and while the threat of leaving on a free to a Premier League rival is regularly leaked from his end as a negotiating tactic, Liverpool remain calm over the present and future. The reason is simple: Evolution - on the player's behalf and Liverpool's. Mane was the first transformer of the Jürgen Klopp era and the club's successes over the past six years are owed in large part to his contributions on and off the ball.
