Leicester Tigers 15-12 Saracens: Steve Borthwick's side lift the 2021/22 Gallagher Premiership title.

Billy Vunipola powered forward and was smashed by Matt Scott’s shoulder to the head, a yellow card was awarded, Farrell levelled matters with five minutes to go. It would prove a key moment as a spilt high ball from Harry Potter gave entry into the Leicester half as Farrell kicked his side to within three points with 15 minutes to play. The England prop tapped and darted blind, Wigglesworth was alert to keep attacking around the corner where Wiese arrived like a man possessed to pierce a gap in the defensive line to cross. Saracens pressed hard after the break but came up against a rampant Tigers breakdown as Montoya and Tommy Reffell burgled ball at will. Elliot Day cut the deficit to a point with a penalty, but soon afterwards, Farrell’s kick was charged down by Richard Wigglesworth and Ashton grubbered once more and the chase was good. A contestable box-kick from Ben Youngs presented an opportunity as forwards plundered into the heart of the Saracens' defence.

Leicester 15-12 Saracens: Premiership final – as it happened (The Guardian)

Freddie Burns' last-minute drop goal ended the Tigers' long wait for an 11th Premiership title in a pulsating match at Twickenham.

It has squirted out to the Tigers’ right, where Ashton scoops it up and then tries a kick infield for a teammate to run on to. Farrell hands the kicking duties over to Daly for a long-range dig at goal just inside the Leicester half. That was great to watch – plenty of kicking in the first 10 minutes, but since then there has been lots of ambition and opportunity for both sides to do a bit of attacking with the ball in hand. The Tigers scrum-half Wigglesworth seizes on the ball and pops up a perfect short pass to Wiese who is on already on the move and has built up enough momentum to crash over the try-line. 51 min: Leicester kick a penalty for the corner and then rumble a maul towards the try-line. 55 min: Leicester construct an excellent driving maul on their right wing and move to within a couple of metres of the try-line. Then marshalled by Youngs, Leicester moved through several phases, and engineered the field position for Burns to send over a drop goal! But the Tigers launched one final assault on the Saracens try-line and moved through several phases ... and Freddie Burns was in position to knock over the decisive drop goal! Steve Borthwick, the Leicester head coach, has a chat with BT Sport: “It was tight, it was nerve-wracking but I’m so proud and pleased for the players. “We wanted to be unpredictable in attack, and the defence ... the coaches got it right this week and got everyone fired up. On the winning drop goal: “The players on the pitch had the composure to work themselves into a good position. If I did that, I’d need a pat on the bum every five seconds to say – “You’re doing well, you’re doing well.” But he sticks to his process, he backs himself, he backs us, and we’ve come away with a trophy.”

Leicester Tigers v Saracens, player ratings: Freddie Burns on fire ... (Telegraph.co.uk)

Leicester overcome first-half loss of George Ford to end a nine-year wait for title glory.

Had a cracking season and his sharp footwork sparked one break. 2. Jamie George - 6 Scrummaging was a concern in the semi-final and gave up a penalty short of his line here before Wiese’s try. Paper-thin mitigation stopped his yellow card for a dangerous tackle on Montoya being red. Put Steward under pressure with an early up-and-under, the theme for the day. Better on the wing and fielded one cross-field kick very well. Comic error trying to field one kick when he appeared to roll over the top of the ball. 20. George Martin - 6 Leicester have recruited well but he’s been the pick of the bunch. Late tackle on Tompkins handed Saracens early points, but then pumped the legs to get through Mako Vunipola’s tackle to score and was a useful carrier too. Momentous player for both club and country who has helped turn them around. Thrived as the game went on.

Sealing Tigers title a childhood dream, says Burns (BBC Sport)

Freddie Burns says he realised a childhood dream when he kicked Leicester to their 11th Premiership title against Saracens.

We didn't show up and that's the most disappointing thing," he said. "We are always in the fight," Burns continued. "It's tough. We were a bit suffocated. "This week he was actually telling me about a drop-goal out in Japan that he tried to win a game and he completely missed, so who'd have thought that he'd have the chance today to win it for Leicester?" "At the age of five I had two goals - to play for my country and to win a Premiership," said Burns.
