Raheem Sterling has been linked with a move to Chelsea in the transfer window as his Manchester City future remains uncertain.

That's where you get your confidence from and at the moment I'm happy to have a part with the team and try to contribute as much as I can. You may just want to keep playing and sometimes you have to come to understand that this is a lot of players in the team." It's the competition that makes you thrive and once you're performing you just want to keep playing if you're scoring, they can assist you, win a game or whatever. The club all the time. When they extend the player contracts, I give my opinion but the club takes the decisions all the time.” And yeah, I mean a good mood, a good spirit. Since then, though, Sterling put his money where his mouth was and earned his place back in the team, playing a key role in another Premier League title success. In fact, in October 2021, he publicly declared his openness to leaving City in search of games as he told the Financial Times: "I’m not a person that’s going to complain. "I think that's the most important thing. In response, bookmakers cut the chances of Sterling moving to Stamford Bridge to odds-on, and Sterling's previous comments could support a desire for a transfer away. And of course with family as well but football for me has a special place in my heart. I need to be scoring goals and enjoying myself.

Raheem Sterling transfer: Man City winger could be missing link in ... (iNews)

The 27-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge and could provide the goalscoring touch that evaded Romelu Lukaku.

Chelsea are a big draw for potential signings (trophies, wages, location), but some strikers must look at how others have struggled and wonder whether it is the right home for them. That leaves Chelsea exactly where they seem to have been since Diego Costa left, needing a No 9 presence who will be prolific without stepping on the toes of the attacking midfielders behind them. The departure of Antonio Rudiger leaves a significant hole and was one of the hangovers of the ownership uncertainty that dogged Chelsea’s form on the pitch from February onwards. Havertz, unlike Lukaku, is more of a playmaker than a finisher and possesses exceptional movement as well as the ability to create goalscoring chances for his teammates. Sterling has played in both roles for City and occasionally through the middle too, but his most productive spell under Guardiola came when he played as a right-sided winger between 2017-20. Lukaku scored only 15 times in 44 appearances and Chelsea tended to look a more cohesive unit when he wasn’t involved.

Chelsea are to step up their interest in Manchester City's Raheem Sterling once Romelu Lukaku completes his return to Internazionale.

Chelsea need defensive reinforcements after the departures of Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rüdiger, with César Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso also possibly on their way out. Chelsea are also interested in City’s Gabriel Jesus but Arsenal are leading the way to sign the Brazilian. The 29-year-old is desperate to return to Inter, who have been negotiating with Chelsea over the terms of a deal. Sterling is high on their list of targets and City are unlikely to stand in the 27-year-old’s way. Sources say it is a matter of time before Lukaku rejoins Inter. Todd Boehly, Chelsea’s new owner, has backed Tuchel’s decision to part with the striker. They are also looking at Ousmane Dembélé, with the French winger expected to leave Barcelona on a free.

Could Liverpool make an outrageous attempt to bring him back to Anfield? That’s almost certainly not going to happen.
