Kiedis isn't exactly a character to be overawed by those on stage with him, though, and it didn't take long before he tore his vest off (the bloke is in good nick for someone in his 50s) to revive Chilis' sets of old. The band followed the crowd pleasers with four songs of their less anthemic beats, and if any criticism can be had of the set, it is that those middle tunes appeared to be some of their newer and lesser-well known works, rather than favourite fan anthems ( These Are the Ways and Here Ever After may be good tracks, but the Chilis could easily have about three albums full of better-known songs to pick from for those in attendance). But it was a real indication of some of the mad energy those packed into Old Trafford could expect for the next hour and a half.

Skiddle attended Manchester's Old Trafford Cricket Ground last night to catch one of the world's most impressive funk-rock acts - The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
As a kid who only ever had Blood Sugar Sex Magic on his Dad's hand-me-down iPod (interestingly named album to give to a small child I know), to hear one of my favourite tracks off the record live sent me into a state of pure bliss, it was bloody good. Such moments were tinged with a youthful resoluteness that inspired images of the four of them packed into a Californian garage, being totally laboured to the music, and having a blast whilst doing it. This being said, interspersed throughout these tracks was some of the best live jamming you're ever likely to see.
The last time John Frusciante played the UK with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tony Blair had only just resigned as prime minister.
Almost 40 years since they first emerged, the Red Hot Chili Peppers still have a magic that rolls the clock back to simpler times. This also highlights the auspicious absence of some of the band's biggest hits, however. The ravages of time seem to have hardly fazed the band; bassist Flea leaps about the stage like a particularly hyperactive iteration of his namesake, while drummer Chad Smith, Frusciante and singer Anthony Kiedis could have been preserved in amber for the minimal aesthetic changes since this line-up last played the UK.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are currently on a global tour, and they recently performed in Manchester, United Kingdom, where A$AP Rocky was supposed to be an opening act for them. "ASAP Rocky didn't even apologize for being that late he had to go on AFTER Red Hot Chili Peppers," a concertgoer posted.
