2022 NBA Draft: The Best Fits For Top 10 Teams (Forbes)

That said, how could the draft shake out, if teams picking in the Top 10 were to pick after need? The selections. Pick 1 - Orlando Magic - Keegan Murray, Iowa.

The spacing alone, which he will provide, is worth gold for a team trying to attack off dribble-drives. Liddell is a thinker, which works well in San Antonio, making him a snug fit on the roster. Smith is a knock-down three-point shooter (42% from range) with defensive upside and some shot-creation ability. For now, he's an NBA ready defender, who can play multiple positions, and rebound at a high level (6.6 per game). The seven-footer is also adept at putting the ball on the floor, allowing players around him to play off of his actions. For Lillard, this provides him with a multipurpose big man, who can also occasionally play alongside Jusuf Nurkic, assuming the Blazers keep him around. Enter Daniels, who is a near 6'8 guard, with great defensive instincts, and an evolving offensive game. Not only is he an athletic tornado, he's also one of the most productive players in the entire draft, averaging 16.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.9 steals, 1.1 blocks and 5.7 free throw attempts per game in just 24.4 minutes. Banchero also functions as a secondary playmaker, and one who can consistently create his own offense when that's called for. He also got to the line 5.4 times per game, basically never turned the ball over (5.7 TOV%), and displayed great maturity and patience on the court. The 21-year-old can effectively guard three positions, and even swing down to handle guards when needed to. As per usual, the vast majority of teams picking in the draft aren't going to focus on positions or needs, when they make their selection.

Sochan also has some skill with the ball in his hands, showing the ability to handle the rock and make easy passing reads. The big question in his game is his shooting ability, both from three-point range and the free throw line. Sharpe has the frame and ball skills to blossom into a dominant force at the NBA level. Sochan is the best defensive forward in the class. On the perimeter, Sharpe has the framework and athleticism of a modern first option. Though he shot 45% from the field and 37% from three, he excelled in contested attempts but did struggle with isolation. He was one of the most productive players in the country as a freshman at Gonzaga, and has essentially aced every test he’s faced since first emerging as a top prospect in the high school ranks. Most draft prognosticators had Jaden Ivey out of Purdue as one of the top-four players in this class, with Murray on the outside looking in. This was an unexpected scenario for the Rockets, but a good one, in my opinion, as I feel Smith was the clear best player in the draft. Holmgren was our No. 2 prospect in the class, and feels like a great fit for the Thunder’s long-term rebuild. The 2022 NBA Draft features a star-studded class with four legitimate options to go No. 1 overall at the top of the board. NBA draft 2022: Orlando Magic pick Paolo Banchero No 1 overall ... (The Guardian)

Live updates: The best basketball prospects in the world have gathered in Brooklyn. Join Hunter Felt for the latest picks and news.

The 2022 NBA Draft is set to begin at 8:00 pm EST at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center but we’ll be back well before then to catch you up on all the league happenings. Still, expect him to go in the Top 3 alongside Duke’s Paolo Banchero and Auburn’s Jabari Smith Jr, both of whom seem to be safer bets. The conflict in this year’s draft seems to be potential upside vs. The Thunder go with Holmgren, who is the most talented player in the draft—the kind of prospect that they created the term “unicorn” to describe—so why wasn’t he the consensus number one? If he goes, he’ll be in the second round and that might not even be guaranteed. Chet Holmgren’s Ceiling: With his ability at both ends of the floor, Chet Holmgren is arguably the most prized talent in this year’s draft. He’s a two-way player, the rare player with a killer jump shot who is willing to play tenacious defense on the other side of the court Maybe the safest pick in the Likely Top Five. I’m sure his college track record and famous name will mean that someone will give him a shot, he might have to go through the G League. Smith is a much safer choice than Holmgren, that’s for sure, and maybe the safest pick in the Top 5. The Houston Rockets are up next and this is a no-brainer if there ever was one. As always, the tradition is for the New York fans who have scored seats for the NBA draft to boo their selection. The mostly highly regarded foreign player in the draft.

Having said that, his upside as an athlete and as a defender is real enough to where I completely buy someone giving him real money. More than any other player in the class, I feel like he made a mistake entering the 2022 NBA Draft. He has a real chance to get lost in the shuffle because of how raw his offensive game is right now. I don’t think I’d feel totally comfortable throwing him into the deep end of an NBA game, because it’s so clear he’s working through his positioning and responsibility struggles, but it’s hard to find athleticism, length and a motor like his. Ismaël Kamagate is a fascinating project for a team, developmentally, because if everything works, he has a chance to work in ways that could portend success in the playoffs, a la Robert Williams. That’s the kind of athlete Kamagate is; he’s really light on his feet and knows how to use his length to take advantage of what opposing teams present to him. Here's what a MAC assistant coach had to say about Rollins: "Ryan has the makings of a 3-and-D guy at the next level. It’s possible the Indiana Pacers just got a steal at 48th overall, because athletically he is at the top of his class. I liked the flashes we saw from Kendall Brown early in the season, but his latter portion of the year tailed off in a significant way to where Baylor was actually a bit better when he was off the floor. I’m something of a believer in Mobley. I really like Spagnolo as a stash pick for a team in the early second round that is low on roster spots. The UConn player who utilized that chip on his shoulder will be headed to the pros. Has the ability to make tough shots." More than any other player, I thought JD Davison made a substantial mistake leaving college for the NBA Draft. He has real upside to play in the NBA at some point, but his skill set and tools are just so raw.

Orlando Magic make Duke's Paolo Banchero No. 1 pick in 2022 ... (ESPN.co.uk)

The Magic used the top pick on Paolo Banchero, who became the fourth player from Duke to go No. 1 overall. Gonzaga's Chet Holmgren and Auburn's Jabari Smith ...

While Banchero was a surprise at No. 1, Holmgren was always expected to go to Oklahoma City with the second pick. He will now join a Kings team that is trying to end a 16-year playoff drought and retool itself around guard De'Aaron Fox and big man Domantas Sabonis under new coach Mike Brown. Like Murray, Ivey had a breakout sophomore season, averaging 17.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists at Purdue. And the Thunder rounded out their first-round selections by taking UCLA's Peyton Watson with pick No. 30. I'm happy to get to Houston and just show them, give them what they picked. The Thunder also acquired Dieng, the 11th pick, by sending three conditional first-round picks to the Knicks. Dieng, who turned 19 last month, averaged 8.8 points for the New Zealand Breakers in Australia's National Basketball League this past season. But the Magic turned things upside down by taking Banchero, who sported a bright purple suit with sequins, along with even brighter shoes, as he took to the stage and shook hands with NBA commissioner Adam Silver. "It's a lot of great players there with unique skill sets. "Orlando wasn't really sure yet, and just to be ready for whatever. I'm happy to be where I'm wanted. I feel like I can kind of pair up with them and help enhance theirs as well as have their skill sets enhance mine." I'm ready."

2022 NBA Draft grades: Orlando Magic select Paolo Banchero with ... (CBSSports.com)

The Magic were widely expected to choose Jabari Smith in the days leading up to the draft.

Now they'll just have to hope that Banchero can follow in their footsteps. The modern NBA is incredibly demanding of big men defensively, and while Banchero has the athletic tools to survive on that end of the floor, it hasn't yet translated into steady performance. If Banchero is going to lead the Magic into contention in the coming years, that is going to have to change. In the end, Orlando went with a prospect considered to be the best offensive player in this draft class. That expectation persisted into draft day and only really began to change in the final minutes before the Magic went on the clock. He should be able to join the Magic right away and help give them one of the best offensive cores in basketball.

NBA Draft 2022: What did Michael Jordan do with Charlotte Hornets ... (Sporting News)

The shrug emoji is the perfect descriptor for Michael Jordan's 2022 NBA Draft with the Charlotte Hornets.

But what else is new with Michael Jordan's Hornets, who have only made it to the playoffs three times since he bought the team in 2010. Bridges has emerged as a key piece on the Hornets, having a seemingly natural affinity with LaMelo Ball and showing possible All-Star potential. The trade was puzzling for many reasons as uncertainty surrounding the initial reporting.

2022 NBA Draft: Live Grades for Every Pick (Bleacher Report)

The future of the NBA starts right now. The 2022 draft has arrived and with it comes the promise of brighter tomorrows, ascending stars and, if everything.

He also fouls at an alarming rate ( 4.8 per 40 minutes), gets careless with the basketball and is prone to bouts of tunnel vision. Still, he has the handles, vision, stroke and motor of a glue guy. With the Cavaliers unlikely to select a center, Charlotte felt good enough about one falling to here to give up the No. 13 pick, and that’s exactly how it played out. When the shots aren’t falling (33.3 percent from three his final 12 contests), he basically just has defense and bounce at his disposal. As with Giddey, Daniels arrives in the Association with a shaky jump shot, and where that stroke eventually lands will determine what kind of career he has. Still, he could face a steep learning curve in the league, as his handle and shot selection both need copious amounts of seasoning. He pairs the burst of a track star with the aerial antics of a Cirque du Soleil performer to form a highlight-friendly arsenal. If there was a way to spend this pick and not have it lose trade value, this was probably the path, since Sharpe has such enormous potential. Murray is simultaneously old-ish for a top prospect (22 in August) and young for his skill set, which looks like it belongs to an NBA veteran. He doesn’t have quite as much shot-creation as you’d normally seek from a top-three pick, but he could tighten his handle with time, and if he does he’d be unstoppable. Smith’s mobility and defensive versatility should also make him a snug fit with Alperen Sengun, assuming Houston has the latter penciled in as its long-term center. He may be the best shooter in his class, which is high praise for anyone, let alone a 6’10” 19-year-old.

NBA Draft: Paulo Banchero selected by Orlando Magic with No 1 ... (Sky Sports)

Paulo Banchero ended up going first in Thursday nights draft, surprising a few pundits, as he was picked ahead of Chet Holmgren and Jabari Smith Jr.; ...

"I think I fit really well with the style of play the Spurs play, a young core. Versatility is really important, I feel like I have that on both sides of the court and I think that's really gonna help me adjust to the NBA and, I think, be long term." And in 2004, the Magic selected Dwight Howard with the first pick. I think I fit really well in that." Smith was one of three first-round picks the Rockets had in this year's draft. San Antonio qualified for a league-record 22 straight postseasons beginning in 1998, winning five NBA championships over that span with stars such as Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. The Magic took Shaquille O'Neal with the top selection in 1992. If the 19-year-old starts as expected, the team will field an extraordinarily young starting lineup with four players under 22. Holmgren, a versatile 7-footer from Minneapolis, was a second-team All-American in his only college season. This year's draft build-up saw a huge focus on the top three. The pick surprised many pundits. "I really, honestly, didn't."

2022 NBA draft - Winners, losers, biggest trades and bold predictions (ESPN.co.uk)

From blockbuster trades to shocking lottery picks, our experts break down everything from a wild draft night.

Chet Holmgren was a no-brainer, but trading three first-round picks -- all heavily protected -- to the Knicks for Ousmane Dieng at No. 11 was unexpected. Gutierrez: The Hornets. It has not been the greatest of offseasons so far for Charlotte. After getting knocked out of the play-in for the second straight year, Miles Bridges found a dose of controversy with a social media post, and Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson backed out of an agreement to be the next head coach. Pelton: The three-team deal between the Hornets, Knicks and Pistons has all sorts of fascinating implications for free agency. Ivey brings some of the flair that the more reserved Cunningham doesn't. If they can find a way to complement each other, Ivey and Cunningham could be a lethal combination in a few seasons. Until we see the full picture, this was just a confusing night for the Knicks and their fans. Pelton: The Rockets tend to see things a lot like I do (both likely influenced by statistical draft projections), and for a second consecutive year they drafted one of the players I considered most underrated, adding LSU's Tari Eason at No. 17 after drafting Alperen Sengun at No. 16 last year. He should have the ball in his hands all the time, and is a near-lock to put up big numbers if he stays healthy. If that's the case, a guard combination of Cade Cunningham, Saddiq Bey and No. 5 pick Jaden Ivey is a good place to start. Instead of waiting for Ousmane Dieng to slide to them at No. 12, they sent three future first-round picks to New York for Dieng, and then drafted Santa Clara's Jalen Williams with their No. 12 pick. The trades continued to pour in through draft night, with both the Pistons and Rockets making additional deals. He was the most college-ready freshman last fall, and he's the most NBA-ready draft pick now. The Pistons traded forward Jerami Grant to the Portland Trail Blazers for the No. 36 pick, as well as future draft picks.

Biggest Winners and Losers from 2022 NBA Draft Night (Bleacher Report)

The 2022 NBA draft is in the books, and the night delivered plenty of surprises and big moments. The first three names called were the ones we expected, ...

But imagine the first pick in this draft without the reporting that immediately preceded it. And having multiple playmakers on the floor should make life easier for both (and their teammates). In the moment, it felt like an eternity. So the Knicks flipped pick 11 (ans its salary) for future picks, and then passed on Duren in a deal in order to dump Kemba's contract. In one of the wildest moments of the draft, New York dealt that 11th pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder for three future firsts. Even the most casual draft observers outside Phoenix, Sacramento and Atlanta knew Luka was one of the surest things in the history of the event. Forecasting a similar pursuit of Brunson and falling short will be, at the very least, embarrassing. And if the unselfishness everyone's shown at lower levels persists, OKC could turn a corner earlier than expected. They've nailed the draft tonight. My goodness the pick-and-rolls they're gonna run together. The first three names called were the ones we expected, but they came in a different order. As I just reported on our NBA Draft Show on ESPN, Duke's Paolo Banchero has joined Auburn's Jabari Smith under serious consideration to be franchise's No. 1 overall pick, sources said.

NBA Draft 2022: Magic taking Paolo Banchero at No. 1 fooled the ... (CBSSports.com)

The top five picks of the NBA Draft turned out to be a relative shocker and may prove to be one of the more impactful drafts in NBA history.

But in their biggest moment in a generation on Thursday night, they twisted the future of the entire NBA — and fooled the rest of the league in doing so. The top five picks going on to be the five best guys, well that has never happened. That in mind, it's been a long time since the top of an NBA Draft felt this consequential. There's a reasonable chance the best player in this draft fell to them at No. 3. This was one of the more intriguing lead-ups into a draft in some time. In what could prove to be one of the most talented drafts in recent history, Orlando and Sacramento — two franchises that have been bad seemingly for generations — subverted expectations and gave us mayhem. If Smith hits huge and becomes the best player, it's not unreasonable we could look up in 2027 and see the Rockets competing for NBA Finals appearances while the Thunder and Magic are still picking in the lottery. Has this ever happened in the history of the draft? Will the Banchero and Murray picks prove to be savvy, or will those decisions backfire on the two notoriously underperforming franchises that made them? Ever since the night of the lottery, May 17, it seemed all the momentum was behind the idea that the Magic were going to go with convention and take Smith at No. 1. The beautiful commotion of all of this is: we don't know. Despite the fact that — as we previously laid out right here — the debate over who should go No. 1 was as compelling as we'd seen in years.

2022 NBA Draft serves up youth ... and a tasty appetizer to busy ... (NBA.com)

Teams at the top of the Draft doubled down on youth, while others geared up for a run at free agency.

Sharpe is the mystery of this Draft; the consensus No. 1-ranked high school player in the nation for 2022 graduated a semester early and enrolled at Kentucky in January to prepare for the 2022-23 college season. Well: Free agency doesn’t begin until July 1, and in the meantime, the Pistons seized the chance to capitalize on the draft by adding a second first-rounder in a three-team trade. The Pistons, Mavericks, Grizzlies, Hornets and Warriors all added players in the mid- to late-second round through trades. The Kings used the fourth pick on forward Keegan Murray of Iowa and hope he’s a keeper in more ways than one. When the night was over and all names were called, the Draft served its purpose. There was a common thread with the Blazers’ choice of Shaedon Sharpe at No. 7 and Portland’s Anfernee Simons, taken 24th in 2018. The top three projected picks eventually filled those slots in this draft; after Banchero and before Smith, Chet Holmgren, the gangly center from Gonzaga, went second to Oklahoma City. Then the draft suspense began. That doesn’t include forward Jonathan Issac, who essentially hasn’t played the last two seasons while recovering from a knee injury; he’s 24 and signed a rookie extension shortly after starting rehab on his leg. So the Magic’s decision was essentially between Banchero and Jabari Smith, who went to Houston at No. 3. With a stable of young guards — Jalen Suggs, Cole Anthony, Markelle Fultz — in the rotation, Orlando put a premium on securing the front line. The Magic chose Paolo Banchero from Duke, one of three players largely considered to be top-pick-worthy. BROOKLYN, N.Y. — What if they held an NBA Draft and it was mainly that — an actual draft instead of a chaotic trade carnival?

NBA draft winners and losers: A Magic trick and rough night for Knicks (The Washington Post)

Orlando shocked the basketball world by taking Paolo Banchero with the No. 1 pick, but the unexpected move could pay off for the Thunder and Rockets, too.

This year, two more academy graduates were selected in the lottery: Bennedict Mathurin, a Canadian who went sixth to the Indiana Pacers, and Dyson Daniels, an Australian who went eighth to the New Orleans Pelicans. Tack on the fact that Sharpe fell to the seventh pick and that Portland isn’t a glamour destination, and his decision to sit out his freshman year at Kentucky starts to look pretty questionable. In Portland, Grant could fill a big need and set himself up for his next payday in a secondary role that is better suited to his talent level. On Wednesday, Cronin sent a collection of picks to the Pistons for Jerami Grant. The deal made sense for both sides: Grant was in over his head as a leading scoring option in Detroit, he was eight years older than Cunningham and he is due a new contract in the not-too-distant future. Irving’s juice has never been worth the squeeze in Brooklyn, and the franchise is unlikely to be a serious contender in 2023 even if he comes back. A misstep this summer could have disastrous consequences for the next half-decade. As Irving struggles to regain leverage in contract negotiations, Brooklyn suddenly faces talk that Kevin Durant might want out if his sidekick doesn’t return. Banchero’s surprise selection at No. 1 threatened to upend Holmgren’s night by sending him sliding down the board. But Sacramento didn’t select Ivey or even cash out the fourth pick in a trade. Given that there are few stars available on this summer’s market, the Knicks’ short-term thinking is likely to end with a whimper. First, New York traded away the No. 11 pick, Ousmane Dieng, to the Oklahoma City Thunder for future picks. A sharp change of plans can often cause anxiety or disappointment, but the Houston Rockets should be elated that Smith fell into their lap at the No. 3 pick.

Let's take a look at all the deals that took place leading up to and during Thursday's draft.

Take a look at the moves your favorite team did (or didn't) make on draft night. Walker is expected to be bought out by Detroit and will become a free agent, while the Pistons added the No. 13 pick via Charlotte in the deal, which they used on big man Jalen Duren. The NBA Draft is always a hotbed for trades, but 2022 was especially frenetic.

The At No. 10 it would've been nice to see the Wizards swing for the fences. Either way, he should serve as enticing trade fodder as the Blazers attempt to once again build a contender around -- to the Lakers for cash. The only knock here is Orlando trading one of its second-rounders -- pick 35! Holmgren could end up being the best player in the draft, so this is already a great night for OKC, and Dieng may have the biggest upside of any player taken in the late lottery. Christie provides shooting, which the Beauchamp is one of the older prospects in this draft with a strong pedigree coming off a big year with the G League Ignite, and Besson is a fabulous scorer from range at his size. Maybe not someone who can contribute next season in a major way, but a promising young prospect for the Smith might actually be a better fit for the Rockets given his ability to space the floor and defend multiple positions, and he'll join With its one and only pick in this year's draft, Boston grabbed a bat and swung for the fences at pick No. 53 in selecting Alabama's JD Davison. Davison is a former five-star recruit with a great pedigree who struggled at times last season in his one-and-done year with the Tide. However, he brings athleticism you rarely see in a point guard and showed enough as a playmaker to warrant a second-round flier. In reality, of course, drafts can't truly be judged until at least a few years down the line, when prospects have been given time to grow and be properly evaluated.

Congratulations to these new NBA players: getting drafted is hard, but doing it while looking good has proven over the years to be even more difficult. However, the tide seems to be turning. It used to be that the annual event's parade of outrageous outfits would provide Twitter comedians with fodder for days: it seemed there was no group of people in the world more hellbent on standing out at all costs, and often with catastrophic results.

NBA Draft night winners and losers: From Rockets, 76ers and ... (CBSSports.com)

This was one of the most unpredictable drafts in recent history, and it was costly to many.

One book even infamously had his odds to be selected No. 1 overall at minus-10,000 at one point on Thursday. Banchero's ultimate selection cost bettors everywhere a lot of money, and with the draft now over, we still don't know what exactly happened to spark that Smith buzz. They'll have secured one of the draft's best shooters with the upside to thrive in other areas without having to use a lottery pick to get him. But it's one of the more important stories to come out of this draft, and at the very least, it is going to change the way people bet on the draft forever. To the Spurs and Pelicans? They're players the rest of the league is undervaluing due to a flaw that they are capable of fixing. For the Knicks to go through a season as disappointing as last year was and not come out of it with any first-round rookies sends a bizarre message. For the Hawks? It's a steal. They already have their point guard of the future in Cade Cunningham. But both Cunningham and Ivey should be just fine off of the ball when they share the floor. Last season, with Trae Young as the only player on the roster to register as anything close to a star, they were among the league's bigger disappointments after falling from the Eastern Conference Finals to the play-in tournament. Melton, Dillon Brooks, Desmond Bane and Ziaire Williams are all competing for the same minutes, and the Grizzlies ultimately decided to break up the logjam before it became an issue by dealing Melton. There are a few problems with that logic. They landed one of the steals of the draft in TyTy Washington at No. 29. It's not quite the same, but it should be noted that Ivey was less than enthused about the idea of going to Sacramento. Now, we're all less than enthused about their draft. No, the Kings are a loser because of their process as much as their result.

NBA Draft 2022's biggest surprises, best value picks and memorable ... (The Athletic)

Let's take one last look at the 2022 draft, which was defined by a curveball at the top and some intriguing fits everywhere else.

I believe Hardy can carve out a role in the NBA. He was the only player I ranked in the top 20 to not go in the first round. He’s so good as a passer and playmaker that I think he has a shot to stick in a role where he could run running a second unit. It might take a bit of time for him to figure it out, but as long as he shoots the ball well, he will have a shot to stick. But he did so largely as a scoring threat from the midrange, as he really struggles to separate from his defender. They moved from No. 19 down to No. 22 in a trade with Memphis, picking up pick No. 29 in the process. The NBA is starting to draft more in service of a modern basketball ideal, where the intersection of size and skill is prized. I felt like the talent of this class dropped off after the top 10 players, so to get three additional first-round picks down the road for a single selection in this class worked for me, even if those three picks are protected, given the Knicks’ apparent goals of star-hunting in trades and accumulating a large amount of draft capital. If Baldwin is going to make it in the NBA and overcome some of his athletic limitations, this is where he’ll do it. His tape was just OK this past season at Kentucky. But I think that was in large part due to his situation at Kentucky. He was stuck off the ball more often than you’d like, and he played with three non-floor-spacers in Oscar Tshiebwe, Keion Brooks or Jacob Toppin, and Sahvir Wheeler. That left him little room to operate in the midrange area, yet he still was a successful scorer from that range. It starts with the decision to draft Banchero, who is a special offensive prospect with his elite scoring and shot creation. 3. Jaden and Cade: The Pistons’ new backcourt has a chance to be the most fun one in the NBA soon. 2. Chet to OKC: If Chet Holmgren’s tools come together and he puts on enough weight to stick at the NBA level physically, he will be the best player in this class.

2022 NBA Draft notebook: Magic introduce two rookies in Orlando ... (Orlando Pinstriped Post)

OPP was at the Amway Center Friday as the Orlando Magic introduced their two new rookies to the media.

And I know a few others who never stopped believing that Holmgren wasn’t in play to go to Orlando at number one because of his defensive acumen, incredible instincts, and massive length. In 2021, the five-star recruit (who re-classified to the Class of ‘21) was named a McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand Classic participant. But still, I think the second round is an appropriate time to take a chance on a rangy-wing with size such as Houstan possesses. I really thought Smith Jr. was going to be the pick for Orlando, because of his elite shooting prowess, to go along with his positional-size and defensive upside. The former Florida Gator was selected by Orlando fifth overall in 2000, and he’s one of only two players to ever be named NBA Rookie of the Year as a member of the Magic (the other being Shaquille O’Neal in ‘93). The Magic set the tone for the evening, surprising many around the league by taking Banchero over Smith Jr. I had all three of the perceived top prospects in this class (Banchero, Smith Jr., and Chet Holmgren) fairly even throughout my pre-draft evaluation period. “There was a lot of excitement last night, a lot of emotions. Banchero is well aware that becoming a number one overall pick of the Orlando Magic comes with exceedingly high expectations, considering two of the organization’s former first overall selections (O’Neal in 1992, Dwight Howard in 2004) led their respective teams to NBA Finals berths. “I knew there was a chance,” Banchero told reporters, when asked whether he knew he was going to be the first overall selection. I think you learn about what works (and what doesn’t work), so it definitely helped me a lot - more than I can explain.” Houstan, who is the first second round pick the Magic have rostered since 2018, led the Wolverines in made three-point field goals (60 3PTM’s, 35.5 percent) in 2021-22. Banchero told media members Friday that he didn’t even know about Orlando’s intentions to draft him until right before the pick was made.

NBA draft night fashion: Paolo Banchero and the most memorable ... (USA TODAY)

Paolo Banchero turned heads at the 2022 NBA draft with his purple suit. How does his look compare to some of the most memorable in recent years?

Rose’s suit is heralded as one of the draft's most memorable, as the 13th pick in 1994 wore a loud red suit with white pinstripes. He even added a little spice to his outfit with a Western-inspired Bolo tie. The Indiana Pacers guard had "Black Lives Matter" written on the left side and "920 to the League" on the right side to represent his Wisconsin roots. The Canadian wore a light olive brocade colored suit with floral patterning surrounding the suit. He revealed that his outfit was designed by hip hop star Young Thug’s brand "Spider." He has flashed the ability to thrive in the NBA with his unique skillset of agility and quickness. Haliburton’s bright suit caught the attention of the masses and is among the most memorable worn on draft night. Gilgeous-Alexander turned heads with his abstract choice of suit in 2018. While his suit may have been basic, it was one of the most unique outfits worn on draft night. Over a quarter century later, Walker’s suit is still discussed as one of the most memorable suits in draft history. The suit could hardly match the hype James received as the "Chosen One," but the four-time champion's attire on draft night set the stage for a Hall of Fame career. He also donned a white-collar shirt with a gold tie to bring the whole ensemble together. With 2022 No. 1 pick Paolo Banchero receiving mixed reviews on his purple suit Thursday night, we decided to sift through some of the most memorable suits from draft night throughout the years.

2022 NBA draft grades and analysis for every first-round pick (The Rookie Wire)

Rookie Wire went through and graded all 30 picks from the first round of the draft now that the smoke has cleared from the evening.

He is a good scorer and has great court vision while also taking care of the ball. Jovic can space the floor and has also shown promise as a ballhandler and rebounder, which are areas of need for Miami. He boasts prior professional experience now, which fits more on their timeline to win now, and should be able to step in immediately and play. The Spurs have instituted a great development system so we expect Wesley, and the rest of their picks, to flourish. Roddy figures to give the Grizzlies a floor-spacer given his ability to knock down shots from deep. Memphis needed to make a trade to get him, but the move to do so should be worth it in the end. The Rockets could use a versatile defender such as Eason on the roster and went and got their guy. His potential as a 3-and-D prospect will certainly be enticing as the Cavaliers emerged as an outstanding defensive team last season. He will help them win games next season, and for a team that had a catastrophic finish to the year, that will be a needed addition. The Pelicans absolutely hit a home run on Thursday as Daniels should become a fan favorite in no time. The rest of their roster is in flux right now, with Myles Turner and Malcolm Brogdon on the trade block, but Mathurin will be a good piece to their core. Ivey can not only help the Pistons next season, but he also has the potential to develop into a star in the NBA. The Pistons have a strong development system and it will be fun to see him grow next season and beyond. The first of three picks for the Thunder was a knockout.
